How can the divine Oneness be seen? In beautiful forms, breathtaking wonders, awe- inspiring miracles? The Tao is not obliged to present itself this way. It is always present and always available. When speech is exhausted and mind dissolved, it presents itself. When clarity and purity are cultivated, it reveals itself. When sincerity is unconditional, it unveils itself. If you are willing to be lived by it, you will see it everywhere, even in the most ordinary things.

The master said, “Kind prince, what do you think? Can the Universal One be seen as having a beautiful physical appearance?”
“No, Venerable Teacher, the Universal One cannot be seen as having a beautiful physical appearance because to the Universal One the possession of a beautiful form is equal to the possession of no form. It is only relatively named so.”
“What do you think then, kind prince? Does the Universal One present all kinds of wonders and perform miracles in order to show off his divine majesty or inspire faith and obedience in others?”
“No, Venerable Teacher, the Universal One does not present itself in that way, because to present wonders and perform miracles for such purposes is not its nature.”
“Kind prince, the subtle body of the Universal One is omnipresent. It always exists, and it presents itself when all speech has been exhausted and the mind has been stripped away. When crystal clarity and unadulterated purity appear, the subtle body of the Universal One appears. When the highest sincerity is achieved, the subtle body of the Universal One responds. Then wise prince, the Universal One can be seen even in what appears to be plain, simple and ordinary.”
