Dao Zhen sent me a mail.

He sais he is ok.

...

We missed the quake in Chengdu by chance!

...

I asked permission to share more of his letter, and I will if I am given.

All is well here. I live in Shandong Province, surrounded by mountains.

Peace and Blessings... thanks for the care and concern

I've been watching events unfold on the news and it looks very bad. I'm sure I speak for all here when I say there is a great sadness for China's loss.

I am fine.

I missed the quake by chance, as a teacher called me to come and meet with him,

so I was in the north when it hit.

My friends temple was destroyed, but no one was hurt.

The school in the village below the temple was hit very hard.

I am busy with my work, but am doing some fundraising to try and do what I can.

It is a real tragedy, but life will go on.

From what I was told, many ancient Taoist temples on Qingcheng Shan were destroyed.

Unfortunately there were 20+ casualties as far north as Xi'an, my city. The earth rocked quite a bit up here, buildings cracked, but nothing came crashing down. The people who died, died of fright, height, or both. Some elderly from shock. Some workers fell. Others on a high floor jumped out the window.
