I have seen Dawkins and his fans attack many things, almost anything spiritual that comes their way. If he has not attacked Taoism, it is only because it is not popular enough and not relevant enough to popular culture yet.

 

If Taoism were to get popular, then there would be people like Dawkins denouncing it. If you would like to see Taoist ideas become more popular and relevant, then you should also prepare to face people who would attack it. In my view, to not prepare for these people is naive.

To not prepare for these people? What must we prepare for? A Taoist is unfettered by the presuppositions of others, he sees all things as straw dogs, including this. A Taoist smiles in the face of these 'attacks'.

Do not discount the possibility that you may have a lower astral entity attached to your aura, feeding off of the negative energy of your anger. This is most likely not the case, but it is possible. Look into entity attachment symptoms and see if any relate to you. This often occurs when practicing new forms of meditation, channeling, or can result from drug, alcohol, emotional or physical abuse in which leaves the aura vulnerable to entity attachment/harassment.

I cannot even begin to describe on how many different levels Michael's book and Gift of the Tao Stillness/Movements (and Michael himself, so generously) has helped me (not just isolate in my spiritual practice), let alone being quite an entertaining read in and of itself. Thank you Michael!

 

Barely related rant: it's sort of sad in a way, because of common people's subconscious (mis)perception/analysis of surface matters... I think if Michael were happen to be of Asian descent, his consideration and reception of a Qi Gong master would be tenfold, at least...

 

I've even seen it rather not so subtly implied on these forums in debate on the validity of Michael's teachings, as if the trump card of the skeptic is that HIS teacher is of true Asian descent and lineage.. oh and that because Michael wears sneakers and simple modest clothing instead of a monk robe or kimono he must be a total charlatan... and all conveniently ignoring the fact that Michael's techniques anyways derive from his understudy of authentic Asian masters...

Yes but believing that the ego is an illusion is an attachment in its own right. Even if it's a liberating construct, that doesn't mean that you are not attached to it. If you truly want to be without attachments then you need to let that go as well. Perhaps it's easier to just say nothing is true? But then saying that is an attachment as well... I guess there's really no way to be free of attachment, because even detaching means you're attached to detachment. It really is a paradox.

we can look at things objectively, understand them as being the process by which we are not really identifying this person, but rather identifying our relationship with this person, and from this knowledge we can then honestly look at our relationship and judge it based on the breadth of that experience, rather than the degree.

Ahh yes, I'm glad you pointed this out; this notion is truly so important... in contrast to rational identification, the automatic, faulty action of the computer-like illusory ego mind sees another and instantaneously judges and compares he or she in various contexts... initially and predominantly that of general superiority or inferiority, "am I better or worse?" often based on superficial and ultimately meaningless aspects such as physical appearance; attractiveness, height, weight, race, age, gender... though the ego knows no bounds as it constantly attempts to fill the void of infinity with self-serving and narcissistic affirmation, though this void can only truly be filled with union with the Tao, infinity itself; how else could one hope to appease an insatiable desire to experience infinity.. through the ego? Infinite suffering instead of infinite love and bliss, ceaseless desiring and greed of superficial status, materialism, drama, superiority, fame and all its decadence...

 

Living as a slave to ego, one is molded by life rather than molding life oneself, reacting instead of acting.... always victim to external circumstance. What if one were mentally trained to see all others as himself? Or even seeing life as just the dream it truly is? What to judge then? The old adage, treat others as you yourself would want to be treated... truth lies therein, in that you are more connected to other people than one might ever know, and it is embracing this connection that allows one to further unify with the Tao, rather than excluding oneself from society, being a recluse, pariah, as if spiritual evolution were only possible in the populace-less confines of the mountains... this is just social fear manifest, subconscious aversion of relationships masked by a practical ruse of training regiment, a guise of dedication to avoid having to encounter those that may judge you, or whom you may judge... but true spiritual development seeks challenge, obstacles in that in order to grow, one must face and conquer his fears and alchemically transform that negative energy to a positive, higher vibrational frequency; through love, by love, for love, to love... the greatest power in the universe, the eternal force behind all creation.. ubiquitous, unconditional, all-pervading...love... therein lies the answer.

The illusion of the ego is what perpetuates the falsehood of duality, separateness, structure with inevitable chaos, disconnection from the Source... though it is said that without darkness, there can be no light. Don't adhere to fixed constraints... just breathe as deeply and rhythmically as possibly all day, but ensure that the length of the exhale near matches the length of the inhale; everyone knows how to inhale, but the problem is that barely anyone knows how to properly exhale... big beginners problem..avoid: long inhale, short exhale.... keep them balanced, even if it means cutting short your inhale despite having a longer potential, so match the exhale with inhale... this is the balance of yin (inhale) and yang (exhale) energies, otherwise you create imbalance... keep awareness on dan-tian, focus on the breath to exercise concentration and quell nuisance thoughts.

Thank you for pointing out how I know nothing. I really am as ignorant as they come with this Mo Pai system. I wish I were training through official channels, but I truly doubt I've endured enough yet to earn the privilege. Even if I never find a mentor, I still believe in my ability to transcend and sublimate, connect with myself and guide whatever universal, underlying substance of which I'm comprised. I believe in fate, and so if I'm meant to progress with my internal skill like I think I am, then it will happen one way or another.

Admirable, in a sense. Just to warn you, if you are training to develop the dan tian, training the mo pai meditation, you are asking for serious trouble if you mix practice with other systems of nei kung/chi kung...forms, meditations, exercises of internal energetic nature.... you cannot mix Mo Pai with other cultivation methods...the energy body will go haywire. Be careful.

If you're really training Mo Pai through 'official' channels you would know that you're not supposed to tell anyone that you are training Mo Pai, thus violating the terms of your agreement with your teacher to train you. If you've somehow come by the Mo Pai level 1 meditation technique and are training Mo Pai without the guidance of a teacher, well wow good luck.

Great answer! But I thought the Yin and Yang Chi are simply compressed together into dantian in the end and stay as Taichi = Yin + Yang and they don't mix to Wu/Ling/One Chi (without polarity). Kosta showed John Chang the simple circle (Wu Chi) symbol and John Chang stated that in Mo Pai you always stay at Yin/Yang (Tai Chi). BTW, I wonder if in Mo Pai you suck Chi from the outside into your dantian, because they say no word about that in the books. I mean how can you suck Chi into your system by simply concentrating on dantian? It is more likely that you only lead chi from the rest of your body into dantian by only concentrating there....what could reduce your Wei Chi and make you sick! Or Kosta told only half the story about archieving level 1.

Kostas book about the Mo Pai is highly inaccurate, embellished... though some truth is there. He was kicked out of the school by Chang for a reason. Chi is built in the body from the sky (yang chi in air) and earth (yin chi)... Mo Pai cultivates yin chi which separates it from chi kung, making it nei kung/nei dan/nai gong... fusion of these two energies is what supposedly makes one immortal and grants all the powers.

So why does John Chang state that simply condensing enough (Yang) Chi to a ball in your dantian is enough to make you immortal and preserving your personality after death...what should mean that your normal energy body will last forever with this "duracell" battery. So simply "not running out of juice" is already enough?

Well, simply condensing enough yang chi to a ball in your dantian isn't enough alone to preserve personality after death...according to the Mo Pai theory, one has to fuse the yin (perineum) and yang (dan tian) energies together in order to achieve 'immortality'... as yin is the essence of infinity while yang is the essence of personality, so combining them into non-duality is the key to obtaining 'infinite personality'/immortality.

Anyone want to speculate on pain in relation to karma? I heard that any pain experienced during full lotus is karma (from current and past lives) being burned.

Has anyone been to Zion National Park? The beauty is breathtaking, so astonishing its amazing, but it is the energy of the place that is just unbelievable, indescribable, palpable, beyond beautiful. I took a break on a hike to meditate and its like I was supercharged.

To live in complete minimalistic simplicity in a beautiful place of nature like that has always been a goal of mine.

So um i was watching a video the old documentary on john chang but this one had a voice over done by someone for a documentry for like the history channel. They said that john chang could control his biokinetic energy or the electrical curent that flows thru us enough to give some one a shock is this true? or is he useing chi?

 

I'm pretty sure most would agree that "biokinetic energy" (more accurately: bio-electromagnetic energy) = chi.

I'm thinking of combining aromatherapy with my practice. There is no doubt about how a smell can effect your state of mind. Trouble is the amount of sites out there making making wild claims just to get a buck.

 

Anyway, does anyone have any experience with this and can make some recommendations so I don't waste my time and money? I really want to give this a serious shot.

Are you going to include aromatherapy in every aspect of your practice? Here's my qualms with using external tools of the five senses as an aid to practice. One, perhaps you're not as anal about it as me, but in a sense you are being dependent on something to reach a certain state of mind/being. Call me a purist, but I think that raw, unadulterated practice will result in the best outcome in terms of energetic and spiritual development. If you consistently and habitually use a tool to 'assist' in practice your body/mind/spirit will adapt and become dependent on the tool... who wants to be dependent on something in the context of what should be the most pure and independent practice in the first place? I am a heavy believer of emptiness meditation as the most efficient route to realization.... and a fixation on any of the worldly senses is going to impede progress.

I've tried smoking salvia numerous times. 10x and 20x...neither had any affect on me, except making me feel a little high.

You were smoking total bunk junk, as with quality salvia one tiny grandma hit will make you forget that you exist as a human being (or that you even exist); no but really, its not that salvia has little effect on you, its just that you used very little salvia to affect you; there are no salvia immunity glands. If you smoked the proper dose/quality of salvia for the standard trip you would be tripping balls.

IMO, meaningful cultivation and intoxication are mutually exclusive unless you are working with an experienced and credible shaman. Even then, there is nothing more pure than natural, unadulterated awareness. This is the state in which true contact with reality occurs. All intoxicants are tricksters and most experiences under such influence are nothing more than entertainment.

Beware of Salvia - if you must experience it I would highly recommend having a sober and resourceful sitter who cares about you and is physically and emotionally able to prevent you from hurting yourself. You're playing with fire - literally.

It is pretty clear that information, message, and consciousness predated shape, form, or matter. It is mind that existed first, and divine mind which creates all life and form. Form is simply a manifestation, a projection, of mind.
