  1. Hello all,

My wife and I are returning to Flying Phoenix practice after a very long absence.

One quick question: is it ok to do the practice when you're sick (ie. A virus, bacterial infection etc)?   I ask because I've been told in the past that some kinds of Qigong should not be practiced when.

Thanks for any help out there!

  2. Many thanks, Sifu Terry.   I did remember your statement that eating something would dampen the effects of the FP practice.

I've gone through a few energy ssytems in the past.  Some advised waiting 30 minutes after practice for the activities in question; others presecribed an hour or more.  I wanted to make sure my scheduling was in keeping with whatever was advised for FPCK. Your post has clarified this for me.

As a side-note, I'd like to once again thank you for being so attentive and freely giving of your knowledge on this forum.  Your posts made a great deal of difference to me as I was researching FPCK.

  3. Thanks, mostly_empty.   So far, I've been waiting at least 30 min after FPCK practice before bathing/eating/drinking/bathroom use etc.   Just wanted to see what the guidelines might be for that.   I appreciate your answer!

  4. After months of reading and researching, I'm happy to say that I've started my FPCK practice and I find myself wishing I'd started earlier!

I have a quick question to those who have been walking down this path longer than me:  I'm aware of the "No eating for at least 30 minutes before practice" guideline.   However, I'm struggling with the following:

How soon after an FPCK practice session can you bathe, use the bathroom and eat/drink ?  What are the preferred timeframes to get the most out of the practice?

My apologies if this has been covered before; I have over 50 pages of notes but I didn't see anything there that would answer my questions and this thread is now an amazing 208 pages in length!

Thanks in advance for any help.

  5. Hi All,

Just wanted to report that I received my Vol. 1 DVD yesterday.  I contacted Sifu Terry who deduced that my initial order was probably lost in the mail.  Sifu Terry very generously mailed out another copy with tracking to ensure that this one would get to me.

Looks like I'm finally ready to begin training in this system! :)

  6. Quick question for those who have ordered from Interarts Productions.  Can you tell me what the usual turn-around time might be on an order?  I placed mine two weeks ago and have yet to receive it.

Not complaining by any means...would just like to get started after all the reading I've done!

  7. I have read this thread all the way through and am ready to begin my Flying Phoenix practice.

A quick question for Sifu Terry and/or any of the more experienced practitioners that might care to chime in:  if I recall correctly from previous posts, Flying Phoenix Chi Kung has a beneficial effect on Taijiquan and Baguazhang practices.  What effect might it have on Xingyiquan practice.  Would it likely have a beneficial effect on "external" Kung-Fu systems such as Wing Chun and Northern Praying Mantis?

  8. As a point of interest (to anyone that may be interested) I just finished a session with Eric Isen, the medical intuitive that has been referenced in this thread a number of times. I gave him an extremely long list of practices and systems to test for benfits on me. Only three practices showed as having extreme benefits for my goals. Flying Phoenix Chi Kung was one of the highest-rated systems for me by far.

Flying Phoenix appears to be synergistic with Taijiquan generally speaking from what I've been able to glean in reading this thread.. Does anyone know if it would be complementary with Chen-style Taijiquan in partcular and with Yin-style Baguazhang?

  9. I have now finished reading through all 196 pages of this thread. I'm mostly a lurker here, but I must say that this has to be the most informative and inspirational thread I've ever had the pleasure of reading on this forum.

My interest in Flying Phoenix----and indeed all the Doo Wai arts----is very high. I PM'd Sifu Terry a few weeks ago and simultaneously sent an e-mail to the various e-mail addresses he has made reference to here. I've yet to receive a response and I'm aware that he is very busy. Is there another contact method I should employ to get his attention?

    Happy Holidays to all!

  10. Thanks, Chang. I agree, online training will never replace hands-on with a teacher. I'd like to supplement the live training (or at least experiment with doing so). I'm just wondering if anyone has nay reviews of/expereince with this particular online training from Mizner.

Does Mizner get into the "energetics" of Taijiquan...or does he mainly stick to the bio-mechanics. I've seen clips of him, but in actuality I know little of his approach to Taiji or his teaching focus.

  11. Hello All,

I ran acroos this online training from Adam Mizner a couple of weeks ago http://www.discovertaiji.com/

I know the limitations of trying to learn an art like Taiji online/at a distance, but I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with this. My thought was to train in Taijiquan locally & supplement my live training with Mizner's online offering.

    Any thought/experiences/opinions out there?

  12. I'm interested in various areas of training offered by WBBM. I PM'd Sifu Garry through here but I'm not sure if he frequents this site much. Does anyone have a more direct way of getting in touch with him?

Does anyone here have any expereince training anything else from Sifu Garry besides Sunn Yee Gong?

    Would definitely appreciate any input!

  13. If that is the case, it's news to me. If something gave you that impression I suggest that you verify it with Sifu Matsuo directly via e-mail.

The way to contact Sifu Matsuo (Lao Xie) is directly via e-mail ([email protected]) for advice, guidance, and my impression is that he has genuine teacher ~ student relationships over distance. He has lots of dvds, a person could start at different ones and that can be a little baffling at first. Sifu Matsuo can offer guidance, plus what various people here have said in the previously mentioned links, really helpful. His dvds ... as far as accessible, impressively effective methods and giving the right tips ... he hits more home runs than anyone I've ever seen. :)

On the "Classes" page, it says the following:

    Classes

Classes are currently closed to the public. Admittance is by invitation or special circumstance only.temple-150x150.jpg

Closed door students receive instruction at the temple classes 4-7 days a week.

Closed lineage disciples receive private instruction, knowledge, and personal training, not normally available, in addition to the weekly classes. Closed door lineage disciples have great responsibility and are chosen by the grandmaster and head master. This is based on intelligence, leadership, charisma, and skill as they must melt, drink, digest and emanate the lineage.

I e-mailed Sifu Matsuo tonight to see if there any other training options. Hopefully, I'll get a reply sometime soon.

  14. I've been looking for several decades and I'm happy with DGS; here's a few links.

    DGS Reviews (page I wrote)

    Sifu Chris Matsuo TTBs thread

DGS's Dizzying DVD Colllection TTBs thread

Teaches healing, martial, spiritual ... often in the same lecture, same technique.

    Trunk,

Thanks for the links. It looks like DGS is not really accepting new students...do you know if thay have any sort of guided distance learning option...or is it just a matter of getting whatever DVDs I can & learning off of those?

  15. Do you want a "complete" system, or do you simply want to train three things concurrently?

If it is the latter, well you don't need to make things so hard on yourself ;)

Just find a decent martial line to follow, and a decent spiritual path to follow. Then do so. It's what most people do.

A complete and integrated lineage is a different animal. Not better, just a different animal.

    Best,

A complete system..but if I can't find one that has all "three things" in it, i figured I might have to put it together from separate sources. However, training in a "complete and integrated lineage" would seem to tbe the most efficient way to go about doing that. I'm still searching for exactly that....

  16. I agree completely. This is the best way forward. Find a good teacher of one aspect that you can put in time and effort with. Begin your path with that, who knows where it may lead and what doors will open as you proceed.

You may surprise your self, it's how I ended up studying with my teachers ;)

    Best,

I definitely agree that I need face to face with alive teacher. Locally, I was going to start with a Wu Taijiquan teacher. The idea behind gathering material from other sources that I was asking about was to "overlay" that material over what I'd be learning locally and hopefully deepen my practice.
