  1. I think many of these 'cooks' are partially real. They may well have spent years or decades working on there Chi. They teach, they can warm up there extremities real good, even to the point of people feeling it a few feet away feeling heat. But that and a buck will only get them half a cup of starbucks.

So they exaggerate. Its a slippery slope to fraudom, but it pays the bills.

We're so hungry for show we persuade those with minor talents to don capes and cook fish, light shirts on fire etc.

No wonder we drive the real ones to hermitage.

    Michael

very true. The scary thing is how deficient and negative his face looks in the pic,

"You too can suck all possible energy reserves out of your body in order to cook a small fish for fame and profit!!" :D

  2. Yes, and speaking of idiots ...

These exercises, like doing the MCO, inner smile, bone breathing, etc etc etc, were developed back in a time when people got much more exercise and were much healthier. Their world and their bodies were not so toxic, but more importantly, they all got more exercise than most athletes do these days, they were slender and stronger and much healthier than a person who thinks they are healthy these days actually is. Even more importantly is that they combined these visualizations with extensive martial arts and moving chi kung training, which took priority, it's safe for people like that.

Instead, these day so many people are sedentary and overweight, they need some good exercise, like tai chi or a good moving chi kung form nd do plenty of it. They shouldn't do even more sitting around. What most people these days think of as being healthy is actually "not too sick" and even most people who think they are healthy are absolutely disgusting compared to what healthy was 200 years ago in China.

These big fat disgusting soft weak stupid sick lazy slobs with their big toxin loaded rolls of fat (did I say disgusting yet?) and pathetic weak muscles topped off with a weak materialistic mind, like me, are everywhere. So, Little 1, you are saying that these people should do even more sitting around and that it is safe and good for their health? These people are fools, led around by the nose by a money grubbing egomaniac, like me.

That's the height of ignorance, and unethical, dangerous. The only reason those practices aren't more dangerous is because they are so wimpy.

very well put, we really need to think relative to history like this sometimes.

  3. was there in the winter of 2003. Amazing place although they close some of the more dangerous paths due to the ice and snow.

It was great as there were only a handful of people there instead of huge groups of Chinese and Japanese tourists with megaphones and flags :)

stayed on Nth Peak and trained one sunrise with full moon on one side and rising sun on other... .perfect :)

  4. Plato's cave is an interesting one.

Some scientists have managed to turn around briefly to catch glimpses of the sun's light. Some occasionally break free to run madly up on the surface for a short while, staring into God's face, manically scratching his image into the soil with sticks. All they return with to the cave is a bag of dirt and stories.

Some have quite big bags, others have their images preserved in shallow trays, but all have only their own translation of what they have seen.

It is only when the occasional cave dweller looks at the smudges in the dirt and sees that the Way of the scientist can only ever be the Way of the translator .

She realizes what feels like chains around her body are actually the bond of kinship between her own shadow and the shadows she sees upon the wall.

She returns inward to dissolve herself of the ability to cast such a shadow, and confronts a problem; How can she exist, here in front of the blazing fire, without her resulting shadow?

If she were void, yes, there would be no communion between her shadow and the wall's ones but there would also be no her. Why does she find herself wanting to free of the bonds if the only answer to this request is self-annihilation.

There must be another way she thinks to herself. Suddenly there is a different kind of light that appears to her in the cave. A brightness, an infinite spec that grows to the size of a grain of rice.

She realizes that this is the way as she feels the chains begin to dissolve.

She realizes that there is no sun that she need break free to look for. That she is growing a sun within herself.

soon its light will outshine the fire, soon it will blaze like the one the prophets and scientists, all translators, have spoken of.

There will be no shadows around her.

She needs no dirt to scrawl in as she will carry the true light within her own eyes to the other cave dwellers, still chained and motionless.

  5. Excellent post. The concept of the Tonal seems to be quite a good umbrella term for the endless array of interference that self has between itself and connection with emptiness.

I wonder if they were able to take the concept beyond just theory to the extent that the Taoists did with their ability to extend life and access the unlimited power of the void for here-and-now use in life.

  6. The plasma universe theories really seem to fit well with Tao, specifically the fractal nature of the birkeland currents from the tiny(lab experiments) to largest( galaxy filaments). They really paint a much more interconnected view of the universe - rather than planets, stars and galaxies being unconnected isolated masses floating in space we see vast intergalatic meridians and channels who's power is expressed at intervals as the stars.

maybe all earth needs is some needling on the sun ;)

Humanity was never more in need of a new science of Life in the Universe. Our hope-less, detached cosmology permeates our lives. We thrash about in ignorance, nonsense and illogicality, seeking real meaning to our existence. All we are offered is a quasi-religious creation from nothing in a mysterious, unscientific event-the "big bang"-followed by random and unexplained miracles to arrive at the present. And our future? We are to fizzle out in eventual darkness or incineration. How uninspired. How unintelligent!

A real cosmology must reunite the sciences, humanities and the arts. It cannot be limited to astronomy. It must give real meaning to Life. It is becoming clear to more and more scholars and the questioning public from around the world that the Electric Universe offers such a broad vista of future science.

  7. Hi Inner Light,

Just to let you know that many students of Master Dong Yang of www.laoziacademy.com have similar back story to what you have just written, and now agree on having now found a 'true' master. What is defined of as 'true' can of course be debated online forever as, on the one hand, it is seen as a very subjective/bias riddled term, but also, alternatively can be seen as a fact accepted by many people through an accumulation of experience with him over many years.

The only real substantial 'proof' is your own judgement and conclusions taken from meeting your new desired master in person. The proof is in the pudding. He is currently based in Sydney Australia, but the academy is holding a Daoist tour of china in April for two weeks as an alternative option.

I hope that no-one convinces you definately online about who to train with, but rather who it would be very wise to meet to draw your own conclusions. As the sort of dedication to lifetime cultivation that you are talking about is a serious matter like you say.

hopefully you will get some good signposts here on TB's to help you in your search.

    all the best,

    CC

  8. Great link:)

sifting through a little, I put together some snippets that caught my eye

A person's lifetime elapses as quickly as a thunderbolt, and in such a spring dream, a baby becomes an elder swiftly.

All men and women should bow, pay homage to, and devote their lives to the Three Treasures (*).

If you can know about the Tao, practice it diligently, and persist for long without laziness, as if you are crossing an ocean and seeking to reach the shore everyday, and remain the same from the beginning to the end, then Tao will be gained by you.

Now do not use your holy energy indiscreetly. You should first practice diligently to fill up your Center. When you see the source of Tao -- the origin of outflows, you will naturally be able to give inexhaustible benefits to all.

It is like refining a sword, after melting it and removing its impurity, the fine steel will finally be produced.

Your heart is like a president who rules all, and taming your heart is like taming a fierce tiger, relaxation or negligence can cause your body to be harmed.

You should not have any thought of harming anyone in your Heart. Although others may not know what you think, the divinities know them all. Harming others is harming yourself, and wronging others is wronging yourself. Heavens and hells are all created by the Heart.

If you have no incorrect thought in your mind, your one [correct] thought can spread all over the universe. In all universes there are sages and holy ones.

Studying Tao is very difficult, because ghosts, spirits, and demon kings prevent people from achieving the perfection. They only want people to die and do not like anyone to achieve the Tao of immortality.

Living beings are grasping various things and unable to let go, so that some of them mistakenly guess the beginning and ending of all, and claim that their theories are the topmost truths, but in fact, they are still deluded by various phenomena.

Furthermore, when you are about to achieve Tao, some heavenly immortals will come to test you. They may use what you desire to test you, may use what you dislike to test you, may use what is difficult to you to test you, or may use what you are afraid of to test you -- All those are what your heart has not yet understood thoroughly, or what your conventional consciousness is not aware of.

If you pass the test, the heavenly beings will nominate you, and the demon kings will be convinced and respect you. That is called the Achievement of Tao.

You should practice diligently, then when you have ascended to the peak, the hardship will cease. At that time, when you look down, you will find that everything is subtle and exquisite.

  9. Sorry but I have to stir this one up.

When I saw the vid I thought the form looked sloppy. The Jian wobbled a bit and was sometimes over extended. It was weird how it looked like a mis-match of styles. Too fast for Yang style but similar in forms. Different forms for Chen Style. I didn't recognise it at all.

Achievement of Dao does not equal martial ability. Besides what is there to achieve in Dao? To achieve anything 'Dao' is too miss the point entirely.

I didn't want to comment out of politeness but after someone concurred with my opinion I thought it ok to post. Besides, It turns my stomach when students slavishly follow a teacher and declare him master of everything and this should be pointed out.

The guy is teaching Daoism for no doubt a reasonable fee and has tacked Taiji on to his list of skills to expand his business. Good luck to him. But his Jian form clearly demonstrates his level of Taji Jian.

The words jack of all trades, master of none spring to mind.

No offence meant for anyone, just pointing out he is no master in Taiji Jian.

When there's a longer and prettier video made, i'll post it and see if your comments differ, but till then all that can be offered is again what spectrum said, that people have to cross hands, or in this case swords to really prove who has mastered form.

The thing is and many will agree on this point is that to judge outer form is one thing, but seeing inner form or power is entirely different. Just like laozi and chuangzi tell us, seemingly coarse or simple dao on the surface can hide unimaginable potential. So yes you may be right on a surface based judgement, but also on another level, in terms of efficiency and power, you must entertain the fact that you may be very very wrong.

    cheers,

    CC

  10. Can you explain 10,000 shen mate?

10,000,36,000, numerous, uncountable, basically just a way to refer to unlimited shen of all the different parts of the body. both in terms the macro systems of the organs down to the micro of the individual cells and components.

  11. The chinese has a saying for this "Run the fire, enter the demon" maybe this is why Daoist always use Water Method to stop the fire /yang as alot of Martial Artist and chi kung works mostly fire path!

Yep, just like in the Monkey King, no matter what your initial intention for cultivation once you take the wrong way and fire gets out of control say hello to zuo huo ru mo and goodbye to Dao. Become a lonely demon, self obsessed and self possessed, stuck in a cycle of destruction.

With zuo huo ru mo, the shen is weak and not steadfast/contained with the jinqi, hence the vunrability to 'outside' body possession as well as to internal possession from an unbalance of the bodies internal 10,000 shen. Just as the huang ting jing outlines - the heart, the liver, whatever organ/shen, each have their own relation within the internal hierarchy/administration if they step out of place and one or several overrule the overseeing Ni wan then all hell brakes loose. Just like a nation in times of chaos, rebellion and war.

This is the number one most important thing to avoid and watch out for constantly, no matter what the level of so called 'attainment' achieved so far.

  12. What makes this Daoist? Or internal? I thought it was mediocre at best. Just because you get thrown around doesn't I would. You might be a duffer for all I know.

    yeah, true.

Too hard to prove anything related to training on a forum, like Spectrum says only way to really show/test internal power is to cross hands, because things sometimes appear one way to some and another to others. so we'll only reach an impasse if we try to nut it out on a forum.

I remember from your previous posts that you've been in the game for a long time now so I don't venture to preach to you at all - just to point out the problem with discussing masters online.

    kind regards,

  13. hey NWG, no prob -when I get the footage i'll post some longer vids of him, perhaps yang taiji or some xingyi.

Sanyuan has been thrown around like a ragdoll so many times that its pretty easy for him take offence to any criticism, but in saying that - sanyuan, that was a little rough considering these are only snippets.

  14. hmmm ok. each to his own. I'm not here to convince anyone, just to let people know when there's clips up for anyone interested.

You can read about Master Dong Yang on the website.

I have a couple of options at this point in the thread:

    a) Argue that Master Dong Yang's achievement of Dao, and hence superior martial ability, is beyond your ability to sense (atleast in these tiny clips like Truth said that is) - which is far too controversial and down right rude.

b ) Grin and be educated about my naivety which is a bit silly to think can reach any truely sound conclusion in a to-and- fro text and video discussion via the net.

    c) remain cool and happy, knowing that we all can take what we want from, and judge how we want, the little snippets of someone who many for many years have considerd a Master of Daoist Alchemy.

I like the c) option - each to his own :)

    p.s - Hey NightWatchDog,

in answer to your Q of is it me ,my personal opinion is --- "I wish" :) , he has been training approx 40 yrs or so.

    happy training

    cheers

  16. Hi Everyone,

Ok, good news is that the Podcasts for the entire 13/11/07 Free Intro speech by Master Dong Yang are now up on the LaoZi Academy homepage http://www.laoziacademy.com.

These will be fixed permanently to the site as the lecture is the most clear and concise summary of the what Master Dong Yang's teachings revolve around and why he is now teaching openly.

The lecture is broken up into 4 Parts, which totals approx 1hr

    It's really worth a listen!

    kind regards,
