Anyone Found Qigong Helpful for Connecting with Intuition?
ChiDragon replied to Kati's topic in General Discussion
I don't know what are you really asking. If you practice Qigong, the chi(氣) goes into your lung, then, the heart pumps the blood into the lung to collect the oxygen. The first organ that uses the oxygen is the lung, then, the heart is the second organ to use it. Both organs uses the oxygen to convert energy for muscle contraction. However, in order to acquire the ultimate goal of Qigong is to sink chi into the lower dantian(LDT), 氣沉丹田. Under this condition, the more oxygen that the lung can give to the heart, the heart will be more healthier. Regardless of what Qigong style that you practice, your body will have the same effect. In your terms, chi will flow all over inside your body. Whatever you would like to define what chi is. -
What was your point? What do you want to say? "Zazen gets up and walks around?" I don't get it. Do you actually know what Zazen is all about? I understand that Zazen is a sitting position in three lotus styles. Zazen is not a thing that walks around. However, after the practice and getting up from the lotus position, it is hard to walk for awhile until the legs are returned to the normal walking condition.

Views on Science/Scientists/Scientism (Split from Is the MCO Real?)
ChiDragon replied to Taomeow's topic in General Discussion
Some people are trained to believe the statements originated from "Science." Perhaps some might be believing it blindly like believing in God. Some are believing in Science with reasoning to support it. Some believed it was because it was proven by scientific method proofs. In the other hand, believing in God is a spiritual belief. It requires no proofs but faith. Finally, believing in the TCM or any martial arts system is like believing and having faith in God. Believing them require no proofs as long one thinks it works. Hence, one can explain it any way that one wants to and make belief for those who wish to believe it. These beliefs may spread out faster than the speed of sound. However, people with different education level will believe them in a different way for granted. Something works may be good enough for the sake of one's satisfaction. Some may be happy to believe what they had been told. Some might want to believe it with some proofs. Some might want to believe it by experiencing with one's own conclusion. At last, some might want to experience it and research to get some facts convincing oneself to believe it. IMO There should be no doubt believing in Science with reasoning proofs by the scientific method. Believing is wise to believe in something by logical reasoning without any doubt or preconceived ideas. We should always consider what we are reading or told with an open mind. -
If it doesn't do healing, then, how does it keep the body in good health to become an immortal.

Has anyone actually improved their eyesight (myopia) through Qigong or TCM?
ChiDragon replied to Kati's topic in General Discussion
I don't know about Qigong is improving my eyesight or not. I know Qigong will keep my body in good health from getting worse! Qigong is Qigong, no matter what name one wants to call it. It has the same effect on the body. It is not how you breathe to determine which organ was benefited. Qigong practice will benefit which organ is the weakest that needs attention. The body is a self healing machine and it will take care of itself on its own. There is no need to see what Qigong one practice. It is because it was only the given name is fooling you. -
Is the MCO Real? (Split from Benebell Wen on the Microcosmic Orbit)
ChiDragon posted a topic in General Discussion
MCO stands for Microcosmic orbit(小周天) and Macrocosmic orbit(大周天). If it is not a breathing exercise, then, there would be no such thing as MCO. It would be a myth to think that moving substances through the Du and the Ren meridians. However, the old concept of MCO was only a legendary concept was passed down from century to century. The same old story was always repeated with no proof. There are no living reference. It was only told by the word of mouth. The story comes out differently each time depends on who told it. I had challenged these ideas about MCO on a Chinese Qigong site. So far, no one has taken the challenge with contradiction but just took it silently. I will go find my post and place it here with translation. -

Yes, that is a good thought. As long the practice was done correctly reached to the realm, who cares how it works. Only I do! I like to investigated and told what I think and speak out. However, some people don't know and have no idea what I know with denial. That is okay, it is because we are at a different comprehensive level. -
It was your personal opinionated translation.

Is the MCO Real? (Split from Benebell Wen on the Microcosmic Orbit)
ChiDragon replied to ChiDragon's topic in General Discussion
Well, we cannot put a blanket definition for chi as oxygen. Chi means breathing in Qigong that the west has never tell it like so. It was a poor translation of Chinese masters to snow everyone. They just make that up so that can tell their story. That is why the west got stuck that Chi is energy, nothing but energy, and ignored the rest of the vast definition. We have lots of newcomers saying that they practice Qigong. I believe that they don't even know what Qigong means. I do not have any reason to believe that someone could give me a good definition of Qigong. BTW Qigong(氣功) was only known as "energy work" in the west. Sigh, it was assumed that Chi is energy again; and gong(功) translated as work. However, gong really means the effect or efficacy. I believe in the scientific method to prove things since I had learnt that in high school. Especially, I was an electrical engineer and become more close to modern scientific approach to look at things. I can only deal with whatever people say as beliefs without proof. In another site, I was talking to a biochemist about cell respiration which he knew nothing about and said that is not his field. I was surprised. Since that is related to his field, he doesn't even bother to look it up or curious about it. He was just blindly believes the non-scientific stories about Qigong that is speculating around the world. Sigh! -

It is because it works without proof. Besides, the Qigong and TCM are only beliefs also. All the Meridians lies on all the nerves, but the TCM practitioners do not think so. Thus they had only made that as beliefs. If one follows all the acupuncture points, one will see they are on all the nerves in the body. Even in the book that they use as Bible say so. The title of the book is Chinese Acupuncture and Moxibustion. I have both Chinese and English versions on my bookshelf. -

Zen is not Buddhism, Zen is not meditation.
ChiDragon replied to adept's topic in Buddhist Textual Studies
Meditation is one of the core practices of Buddhism, aiming to cultivate the mind and purify afflictions. It belongs to the category of the Eightfold Path. Through meditation, sitting meditation, etc., it focuses on breathing or specific objects, cultivates mindfulness and concentration, emphasizes continuous awareness of the present state, and ultimately achieves inner peace and wisdom awakening [1]. Meditation is based on the three studies of precepts, concentration, and wisdom, and the Four Noble Truths as its philosophical foundation. It advocates observing the impermanence, suffering, and non-self nature of life through the Four Mindfulness. The practice includes methods such as the dual cultivation of cessation and contemplation (combining concentration and awareness), the four postures of walking, standing, sitting, and lying down, and incorporates rituals such as chanting Buddha's name and observing Buddha's name. The Southern School of Buddhism emphasizes the integration of mindfulness with life, and the Shaolin Meditation Song reflects its integration with traditional culture. Meditation originated from Indian Buddhism. The Agama Sutra records that the Buddha taught his disciples through walking meditation. After being introduced to China during the Han Dynasty, it differentiated into two branches: the sutra-theory Zen method and the Zen mind method. The latter was developed by Bodhidharma to Huineng, turning sitting meditation into enlightenment, forming the mainstream of Zen that emphasizes sudden enlightenment, and eventually constructing a complete practice system covering terms such as meditation, meditation, and awareness. -

Yes, ofc, you were misled by some Zen layman. Sorry, your searching out these topics wasn't fruitful is because you were reading something written by some Zen layman. Perhaps you want the read something from the horse's mouth. Let me give them to you. Ref: https://www.puti.org/ch/meditation-for-beginners/ -

Is the MCO Real? (Split from Benebell Wen on the Microcosmic Orbit)
ChiDragon replied to ChiDragon's topic in General Discussion
OK. Based on what I have gathered. Neidan takes place in the LDT. MCO was using the idea from Neidan in producing the inner Chi. Then, the inner Chi is circulating in the path of the Ren and Du meridians loop. That is why it was called MCO. In the Chinese language, inner Chi(內氣) has never been defined. Therefore, there should be no attempt to translate what the inner Chi is. It will throw everything off. -
In the past and present, normally, the teacher or master does not want their students to learn other systems. Period. PS If you want to learn more than one system at one time, then, you are not serious about learning any system at all.

Is the MCO Real? (Split from Benebell Wen on the Microcosmic Orbit)
ChiDragon replied to ChiDragon's topic in General Discussion
It is ture that Qi was meant to be a substance in alchemy. However, it is not in MCO. MCO is about the Du and Ren meridians circulating in an orbital manner. They say it can be rotated in either direction. -

If any external substance moves in the body. It would be the oxygen. Someone said that substances move along the Du and Ren meridians during MCO. I am not sure about that. Are both meridians orbiting by themselves or substances orbiting along the meridians? -

ChiDragon replied to ChiDragon's topic in General Discussion
Yes. the question may be asked in a different way! 1. Does it work? If it works, then, isn't it real? 2. What does it do? It makes the body healthy and strong with a tremendous of energy. 3. How do you make it work? In the past, the accomplishment was understood by alchemy involved with the three treasures, 精氣神(Jing Chi Shen). 4. Can you make it work? Yes, One has to be practiced it diligently to make it work. 5. Does it just happens? No, if so, then, everyone is in the same mode. Hence, no practice was needed and there would be nothing to be called such as MCO. -

Isn't gas a substance? For example, oxygen is a chemical element, thus it is a substance stands by itself and moves in the blood. It is also a measurable substance. -
That is definitely a no no.

Benebell Wen on the Microcosmic Orbit
ChiDragon replied to forestofclarity's topic in General Discussion
Yes, the moving substances in the body is correct. Based on the thinkings of the ancient Taoist, the moving substance is chi. They defined that chi is the postnatal chi. The postnatal Chi is the external substance that supports and recycles the prenatal chi. However, postnatal chi was only a general term and did not specify what they are due to the lack of scientific knowledge. It was the best general explanation about chi at the time. At least it gave us an idea to investigate in the future. I must say I admire the wisdom of our ancestors. Nowadays, with the help of modern science, we can take the liberty to specify that the postnatal substances are the foods we eat and the air(oxygen) we breathe to preserve life. I don't think there is any contradiction with the ancient philosophy. Now, the question is being asked is the MCO real. The practice do enhance the health of the human body. Even though MCO was vague and ambiguous, but it is very close to the modern theory of the cell respiration process. IMMHO I would say that the conceptual idea about MCO is real.
