  1. And for those of you who claim that meditating for such a long time without food or water gives you nothing which can help you in life..

let me tell you a fact about spirituality..

only masters who have achieved much spiritual progress can go without food and water for long periods of time.. and i have not yet seen one single chinese master who achieve such similar feats..

hell, chinese masters can't even go without sex for long periods of time.. let alone food or water..

taoist practitioners are too driven by the baser animal impulses of life in order to achieve too much progress in spirituality!

just look at the number of sex-driven posts in this forum!

There is nothing wrong with spiritual sex in the unity of love of yang and yin. Buddhist are loners or are they not.

Well this does sum up your lack of ability to achieve the highest level of spirituality. But then again your mouth only speak words filled with hot air. Body of light or a body that still needs cultivation.

  3. Soundslike one of those conspiracy theories again. No one who knows anything will identify themselves. And there is no evidence or any grave site.

Who were his wifes having sex with in that house in Pakistan? Wouldn't that qualify them for the death penalty under Islamic law?

No, I don't hold much value to such unsubstantiable sources. Just someone blowing smoke.

Yeah! It's smoke because you're a sheep in society who thinks the media tells the truth including your government. When they have lied to go to war and lied on what happened on 9/11. You've totally been brainwashed and social condition into believing what you believe when the evidence suggest otherwise. What you believe as evidence is only the CIA cooking the book. Its so obvios you believe in a lie.

Let me ask you a question, why did building 7 collapse on 9/11/

  4. I'd prefer if killing were never necessary, but that's an ideal that simply does not exist so long as there are those that will only cease violence when violence is committed upon them. I am for killing only as a last resort.

I'm all for punishment if punishment is an option.

I believe the path of the honorable warrior, the warrior who defends the innocent, is a noble path. So long as there are those who would prey on their fellow man we will need those who are willing to do violence upon those who understand no other language but violence.

To fail to do violence upon those who respond to nothing else is to condemn others to harm or death. Compassion demands we do as little harm as possible. If killing one murderer prevents the death of many it is certainly the right choice.

Yeah, But America has killed more people than Osama Bin Laden in the war. Besides Bin Laden died in 2001.

  5. truth is what you want to see and what you project. The information you have in your head construct the truth you will see. What you think will manifest what you see. So basically since it varies from person to person, truth is an illusion. Everyone sees the truth in their own light. No one can claim to know the truth but only be a truth seeker.

  6. I think that killing can be done without hatred. Sometimes the good and compassionate thing is to kill those who, for whatever reason, will not cease in their violence. To allow predatory humans to make prey of their fellows is to show a distinct lack of compassion for those whom these predators will victimize.

I don't think nonviolence is an absolute moral standard that must be adhered to at all costs. Like all moral realities it must be contextualized so that it doesn't become simplistic and ultimately useless. Love is not weak. Even to forgive doesn't imply that one allows the forgiven to continue to commit harmful acts. Forgiveness simply removes the emotional charge from the past. One can forgive another and still find it necessary to kill if that other refuses to cease their violence. One can kill without hatred.

The loving thing isn't always the warm and fuzzy thing.

<--- Not a Buddhist by the way, so YMMV.

I probably disagree with killing, but agree to punishment.

  7. Hmmnnn, amazing a video from 1939, when the Dalai Lama was 4!? So..this shows the 4 year old Dalai Lama is a Nazi?? Not really. It shows amazing reaching on your part.

I think you're correct and the video shows that Tibet of that era was a pretty primitive place technologically and certainly not world wise. Its isolation has been one of charms and perpetuated its mystery. I assume if any other powerful, heck if any non powerful country with electricity entered it they probably would have gotten a similar greeting, particularly if they gave goodies in advance.

Its hard not to be judgmental when you're dealing with foolishness. I don't think the 4 year old mentioned in the film really understood the Nazi's aims or philosophies. I Know this; The Dalai Lama is no Nazi his views are diametrically opposed to Nazi's. The man has written a dozen or more books. He's stated his views thousands of times; he's not mystery man, in fact he's very clear spoken.

If you can't see that then you don't see things in black and white, you're blind.

Sorry for being blunt, I'm not a Buddhist or Tibetan, but the Dalai Lama has earned my respect as a first rate humanitarian, philosopher and teacher. He could be greatly embittered by the brutality he and his nation experienced at the hands of the Chinese but instead preaches and practices forgiveness and tolerance. He's not perfect but he's better then most and to call him a Nazi is patently ridiculous. Its stupid, moronic, illogical, deleted deleted..

It is not stupid and and illogical, just in you view. Man I can see that this thread brings out a lot of emotions in you. You must be quite attached to the Dalai Lama. Before, I usually gave the Dalai Lama the benefit of the doubt, but now I just doubt his holiness.

    Maybe, maybe not.

  8. I'm not socially conditioned into thinking anything about the DL. I make up my own mind by watching, studying and so on. But you are entitled to your view and me to mine. What would be interesting would be a proper balanced debate rather than all the propaganda. I think it will always be a problem for a spiritual leader to have political authority also. Politics is not so much about truth as about power (the end justifies the means) and compromise. I would say that the DL has done the best he can with the situation in which he found himself which was a very difficult one. But if you prefer to think that he is some kind of CIA/Nazi stooge then I suppose that is your opinion.

Alan Watts? Can you really compare them? Hmmm ... again up to you, it a free TTBs world.

I say that you believe whatever you want and I will believe whatever I want. Reality is a illusion.

  9. It is wise, but wrong is wrong; foolish is foolish. Seems to me you're wrong, Big Time. No question about it in my mind. The Bums is relatively international, with a wide variety of members. We've had threads concerning the DL here in the past some (alright mostly) positive, some negative, but none as darkly irrational as yours with the Nazi comments.

You seem to have a remarkably black and white view of the world and make sweeping, often highly prejudiced generalities.

Well, if I have a black and white view of the world than why do researchers say the Dalai Lama is Friend with Nazi members and worked with them. Watch this video and stop being so judgmental because it has national geographic on it. China does have a lot of good historical materials regarding Tibet, but China didnt produce this documentary. The Germans did. The footage was first aired in Germany.

  10. Out of boredom I will engage in this. The Dalai Lama has travelled for a large proportion of his life, in that time he has met all sorts of people from all walks of life, he believes all humans want to be happy and avoid suffering therefore deep down we are all the same, so he doesn't discriminate who he meets and who he is compassionate towards, he even said he thought George Bush was a nice man when he met him. Just because he meets someone and is compassionate towards them it doesn't mean that he sympathises or supports their ideas.

When he met Heinrich Harrer he was a child of 11 years old and it was before the horrors of Nazism were revealed to the world yet you still try to equate him as being some sort Nazi sympathiser just for knowing one German when he was a child. Do you not see how insane that is?

The website you linked criticises him for eating meat, but he has to eat meat because of his constitution, as he once tried to become a vegetarian and it almost killed him.

My understanding of the Shugden issue is that in his study the Dalai Lama discovered that there may be harmful consequences for the practitioners who focus on the shugden deity so he recommended against it. There is no dharma police who will arrest you if you continue with shugden, it's completely up to you, he just recommends against it.

The Chinese accuse him of all sorts of things yet if you examine what he asks for he doesn't even ask for Tibetan independence, he asks for religious freedom and equality and the stopping of forced migration to dilute the Tibetan population. Some accuse of him of being militant yet where is the violence and terrorist attacks? They accuse him of being a power hungry dictator yet he has given up all his political power and positions.

He continue to meet Nazi's even as he got older, including work for the CIA.

The Shugden belief completely proved the Dalai Lama as a liar. Thank you for confirming how the Dalai Lama has turned against the Buddhism he has been following all his life than suddenly turn around and confront it as evil.Besides, why does he ban his followers of shugden from attending his teaching. And why is he constructing a new buddhism to teach his supporters.

If that is true then why are there scholars and people who have found the Dalai Lama to have lied about the situation in Tibet as a Shangri-La, when in fact the place was hell on earth. Oh! He doesn't advocate for free Tibet, that completely contradict his action of supporting the cia in funding terrorism to free Tibet. What a hypocrite. He even disappointed Howard Zinn an American historian, academic, author, playwright, and social activist. Who knew the Dalai Lama would support war in the case that involved Iraq.

He has given up his power? Why does he go around preaching like a celebrity as if he is a god, with so many blind followers in believing and holding on to every word.
