We have the same goal and I am a Christian. It doesnt matter if I want to abide in God and a Zen dude wants non-abiding. The same methods produce the same results and the ultimate reality is the same for everyone. One problem is that most Christians have never heard of contemplative prayer and when they do it takes a hour to explain that your not opening your mind to satan. Seriousy, I just had that exact conversation with my gf last night since she is a singing in the choir Baptist girl. -

Michael Saso the ex-Jesuit? I had his books and just posted a thread about the Cloud of Unknowing being virtually Taoist. If you take out all the references to Jesus (not many) and change God to Tao its pretty surprising. Plus the author calls this prayer, "water prayer". Sloppy Zhang, I had a much different experience being Catholic. I am not a strict Catholic anymore (joined the masons) but it was a priest who handed me my first copy of the Cloud of Unknowing (hundreds of years old). Also up until 2005 I was doing mantra (Rosary) for about 4 hours a day. I think its a great method to develop insight and wisdom. Nothing beats contemplative prayer or sitting in oblivion though in my opinion. -

Reminds me of the lament of great teachers. "Why cant I find any great students?" Whats a great student? They hear of meditation study it and then mystery of mysteries, practice it. Meditation isnt that hard. Its a personal trial and error thing that no matter how great the master is, he cant do it for you. There are a million websites and books on it. Pick a simple one like watching your breath and stick to it. There is no great mystery to becoming an advanced enlightened being either, just meditate a lot and for a long time. Reminds me of a friend who wants to be a photographer but wont start now because he doesnt have a $2000 camera that he "needs". Strangely enough he waited to start running until this summer and he moved but now that he moved he isnt running because of a million reasons. There is a difference between "wants" and the things we actually make a "true decision" to have. I bet if he were to decide to get enlightened he would wait to do the "real" work for when he found a "true" master. I am not slamming you astral_anima, I am just saying start meditating your ass off now and great masters will climb over each other to claim YOU as a student.

Holy smokes! I just read the original Cloud of Unknowing and saw this special way of praying(contemplation) called the "Water Prayer". I think a lot of people have the wrong idea about dating advice people and the pick up artist crowd. Some of the stuff is pretty selfish and teaches you how to lie to get laid. This is an example of the other kind of stuff that teaches that if you want to be with a total 10 woman you need to be a total 10 man. They're here too. I live in the burbs of Detroit and hot chicks wearing everything you could ever want are everywhere. Personally my favorite is jean skirts. One thing I havent totally gotten used to with this stuff is everytime I get a girlfriend other women just flock to me. I know its because I am acting more confident and feeling good about myself so they notice that. Where do you live Enishi? Maybe we can hang or do some Tai Chi? -

I started to study PUA stuff a couple years back but didnt do it to get laid. I didnt even believe in sex before marriage back then. I just wanted a girlfriend and after 20 years of total focus on mysticism I didnt have a clue how to get one. I started out with David Deangelo's 77 Law of Dating and it really turned my life around. I have studied a ton of material since then and its all about the basic principles. Get a great circle of friends, live your life according to a higher purpose, constantly improve yourself as a man and you will naturally attract great women. I just broke up with my girlfriend last December and I am dating a new one now. From January to June I dated 11 women. I am not a player but the more "full" my life becomes with interesting activities the more women seen to find me interesting. Here is a truth that has really helped me stay positive. Thats it right there. You dont attract the woman you want. You attract the woman who compliments the man you are. If your not attracting women that means your not attractive to women. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Life is ultimately fair. You get it what you put out. If you want a great woman you have to be a great man. If you think your a great man and you've been single and alone for more than a year, your NOT a great man. Dont mistakenly beleive all the good ones are taken or your having a run of bad luck. Perfect 10 women are desperate for men who have their lives together and who have some direction in their lives. Seeing the "perfect red head" and thinking you would make a better boyfriend than her pockmarked ex-whatever means your missing the entire point of what women want in the first place.

George Lucas admits that he drew from eastern philosophies in many places and not just on wiki. I thought that was widely known such as Yoda was a facial combo of Albert Einstien and O'Sensei. Joseph Campbell was a huge influence too. Ever notice in Star Wars 4 Luke wears something like a Gi in the beginning and in Star Wars 6 shows up in a black mandarin collared, frog buttoned kung fu like outfit? EDIT: Back to the subject. If that Jani guy hasn't eaten from an early age then I doubt it was anything he did in this life. Probably a mutation or he is resting on the laurels of some past life achievement. Just my opinion.

From what I understand, the first level of Taoist spiritual immortality is when you are forever reborn with your past life memories intact or fully recovered before your 18 years old. That includes all past languages and knowledge, not just vague impressions or images. Its total recall.
