  3. The Complete Idiot's Guide to Taoism

Thanks. I like the standing still exercises from the video series. My 12 year old daughter is about to have spinal surgery for scoliosis and I think this is the exercise she needs, though it is good for all. I wouldn't have known of this for awhile, if you hadn't mentioned it but, my gut says that this is what I need to investigate. today I bought the book, "The Way of Energy, Mastering the Chinese Art of Internal Strength with Chi Kung Exercise". I'll let you know what I think. All your links are pretty good too, thanks again.

  5. Orgasmic Nature

    Sounds like LOVE
  6. Critical Thinking and Creativity

Critical or Analytical thinking, in my opinion, does not occur without creativity. You must be able to imagine all the variables to analyze them in a critical way. Without creativity, you would be thinking deep within the box of preconceived ideas, instead of outside the box of new ones. Thanks for the read. You really are a great writer!
  7. Te-Tao Ching by Robert G. Henricks

    OK, Thanks, Marblehead
  8. Orgasmic Nature

I think woman would be more likely to have these experiences than men (due to physiology). I also think most woman would never say anything of their experiences, regarding this... just my thoughts.
  9. Is committing murder against the tao?

[if] People do not fear death How can they be threatened with death? If people are made to constantly fear death Then those who act unlawfully I can capture and kill them Who would dare? There exists a master executioner that kills If we substitute for the master executioner to kill It is like substituting for the great carpenter to cut Those who substitute for the great carpenter to cut It is rare that they do not hurt their own hands http://www.taoism.net/ttc/complete.htm If people were not afraid of death, Then what would be the use of an executioner? If people were only afraid of death, And you executed everyone who did not obey, No one would dare to disobey you. Then what would be the use of an executioner? People fear death because death is an instrument of fate. When people are killed by execution rather than by fate, This is like carving wood in the place of a carpenter. Those who carve wood in place of a carpenter Often injure their hands. http://www.taoteching.org/chapters/74.htm I'm thinking that killing is not our job, it's the job of fate.
  10. [TTC Study] Chapter 3 of the Tao Teh Ching

OK, well, I know I am way late on this thread but, I would like to see if I am understanding the meaning right. My first problem is that there are millions of translations/perceptions to the original poem and its lost its rhythm. My second problem is that I have a language disorder so I have to pull it from my own warped way of understanding the words. You can let me know if my intuition is within the ballpark. summery of meaning (to me): Creating a distinction of great worth or value for one person, place or thing, over an other creates competition, unhappiness, desire, greed, etc. (within the minds and hearts of the people) which results in strife, stealing and misdirected hearts/minds. So a wise one will help people by "by emptying people's minds and filling their cores, by weakening their ambition and toughening their resolve. He helps people lose everything they know, everything they desire, and creates confusion in those who think that they know." Be neutral and see all things as equal and everything will be in harmony. So far, I like this web link: http://www.taoism.net/ttc/complete.htm
  12. Te-Tao Ching by Robert G. Henricks

Hmm, it may be that I am still too much the student to appreciate the uniqueness from one translation to an other but, I much prefer the words chosen in this version: Chapter 5 Heaven and Earth are impartial They regard myriad things as straw dogs The sages are impartial They regard people as straw dogs The space between Heaven and Earth Is it not like a bellows? Empty, and yet never exhausted It moves, and produces more Too many words hasten failure Cannot compare to keeping to the void http://www.taoism.net/ttc/complete.htm I was wondering why Robert G. Henricks seems to be so popular on this site. Who is he?
  13. hi

My areas of interest used to be comparative religious studies, focusing on Buddhism, Tao, Kabbalah, etc; and other studies such as Zazen Meditation, Philosophy, Sociology, and Psychology, etc. BUT ... Now I am interested in living and experiencing others as they really are.
  14. The world in which we create is a reflection of the piece of reality we wish to manifest.
