  1. The Fire Yogi

The fire ritual he is performing is called Homa, a miniature form of the Vedic Yajna, that is typically performed for the well-being of the people in that region, for health, peace etc. The rolling part is just something that is not a part of the ritual and it "happens", when he let's go at the peak of the ritual. Now, how do you know his ritual did not add one wee bit to world's peace?
  2. The Fire Yogi

It really is not any specific breathing technque. It is, according to him, the power of his mantra and the deity. Unlike Satyananda's case where he has to specifically concentrate to awaken this power of mastery over fire, here there is no effort. There is an overpowering sense of love for the deity [Ganesh] here and the it is the deity who seems to be taking care of this man. There is no pressure to perform, no focus on results or no worry on getting burnt. He lets go in love! And he has practiced the mantra of the deity from the age of 12 for decades...

  5. Jed Mckenna on bliss

Rather than Kahsmiri Shaivism, my focus is Srividya Tantra, and there is a lot of exchange between the two systems. Srividya is practice-oriented but my Guru expects us to know some background. Hence a little peek here and there
  6. Turn the light around and contmplate at ease

    Splendid, thank you...
  7. Small Orbit

I thought I was clear about the Microcosmic orbit till I read this now on Spring Forest Qigong forum: - Does any one know a good source of information on the various centers of the orbit? Chunyi Lin only mentions the name without dwelling into details. - Is it the general practice to use reverse breathing pattern during the orbit? - Is there a standard on the different centers in the orbit? Mantak Chia lists a whole lot and some others leave out these. Is there a clear and easy to understand source of information on the orbit? Appreciate any help in this regard.

  9. Ganesha

http://youtube.com/watch?v=X-AX7Jukfh8&feature=related Another clip, of Raag Megh Malhar. A proper rendition of this raga is said to bring the rain. Esoterically, it is supposed to invoke the element of water, cleanse and cool. Many Yogis and Aghoris of Benares, after months of practice, would gather in groups to listen to this raag on the ghats of Ganga and as children, we would wonder why, back then..

  12. Why Taoism is different

They are all different systems because they are "different" at some level, and it does not take a researcher or an ascended master to know that, some common sense would suffice As for Lin, if your tone when stating your ideas was even half as respectful towards other systems as his, I would be the last one to speak out. This is my last post on this thread
  13. Why Taoism is different

Taomeow, Saying my way is "superior" is also kind of fundamentalist, especially when it is not clarified that such statements are applicable only to oneself? I bet you have no clue of the diverse systems of Indian philosophy [now that you mentioned Indo-European], especially Tantra and Sankhya. So how are your statements not reflective of fundamentalism, when you seem to be passing judgments on various systems with no clear understating?

Wonderful! Superbly worded ... Trika is indeed a wonderful mix, offering just what is suitable to an individual. You have the four classic schools, which of course where a later classification by Abhinava Gupta: Krama - Successive realization, where the unfoldment is gradual, employing bhedAbhedopAs [dualistic-monistic techniques] Kaula - Realization of the totality of the universe, employing Tantra, Shakta to be specific Spanda - Cognition of the vibration or Spanda in everything Prathyabhijna - Spontaneous recognition of the individual self as the universal self, through anupAya or lack of practice or techniques. Manifestation of pure bliss is in the realization of the universal consciousness and only unified consciousness can bring about true and unceasing bliss. The two are faces of the same coin. But pursual of bliss is not the goal of any school of Tantra or even Advaita, be it Kevaladvaita or Monisitic Shivadvaita as bliss, for most, is associated with the the mind, (or names and forms alternately), which ceases to exist when the Supreme Consciousness of Paramashiva unfolds.

  16. confused about tantra

There are various branches of Tantra. Samayachar - Purely internal contemplation Dakshinachar - Rituals, mantra etc., without involving sexual practices Vamachar/Kaulachar - this teaches sexual techniques, but after a student has undergone rigorous preperation and is qualified by the Guru to take up a sexual practice like Bhairavi chakra etc. Who practices what is based on individual needs, state of development, previous karma [reflected in birth chart etc.]. Some practices deal with chakras directly by explicit manipulation of pranic movement etc., some do not and rely on mantra and deities to accomplish this. Some simply rely on shaktipat. As for Osho,
  17. AMMA

Probably that's the whole experience. To receive that love energy, one probably needs some love and patience on his/her part as well. It may not work well to treat Darshan as a Bang Bang, Clean and Go thingie done with a precise & prior appointment....
  18. The Red Sun practice

Jalandhara Bandha - prevents Prana from escaping through the upper apertures. Mula Bandha - Locks the loss of Prana through the lower apertures. When combined with Pranayama and Bandha traya [the three bandhas: Jalandhara, Mula and Oddiyana], it forms the skeleton of the great practice of Mahamudra, greatly prescribed to awaken Kundalini. The same is described esoterically as Shakti Peeths or physical abodes of Shakti or tripura in India, held as great power centers: Kamarupa, Jalandhara, Purnagiri and Oddiyana. Also, an advanced form of Thokar Kriya advocates revolving the Prana in a cyclic fashion rapidly while holding the three locks to generate sufficient heat to awaken the Kundalini. However, without Nadi Shuddhi and enough preparation, Mahamudra is said to cause harm.
  19. Empty Vessel

While reading a piece written by Michael Winn, I came across this: Any idea which exact book he is talking about? Is it the one [or a series?] by Solala Towler? This does not seem to be available [all series] on Amazon. Would appreciate if someone can shed more light on the book containing Wang Liping's teachings.
  20. Empty Vessel

http://abodetao.com/cgi-bin/shop.pl/SID=12..._backorder.html The back issues are listed here but on a quick look, I could not spot the exact issue with Wang Li Ping's meditation.
