The Burning Palm uses the elemental forces (Sun and moon) during its meditations, Sifu Christer also made a clip explaining this last year but took it down. We use sun and moon energy! I dont think FP uses the Moon persa but the same name as us Monk viewing the moon as the FP is done at anytime, maybe Sifu Terry can share more for you? Sifu Garry

Hi Sihing, Trying to catch up on the posting here!! In Burning Palm 108 breaths is our "Key" for holding positions but in the beginning students cannot hold for that long especially when starting so anywhere in between and try and get to 108 without effort as you progress. Progression is the key but from the heart! If you do less that what is said either BP or FP as long as you are in the zone you will get results, remember the 108 is a high number and should only be tried once a student gets better. Trying for 108 breaths without building the energy in the said postures will only stiffen the body and make the mind wonder and lose the zone. My advice is slow and steady wins the race and the practice that one does has to be personal not because its the FAD at the moment. I believe the art chooses the person not the person chooses the art! Thats why so many trial different things and are never content!!! Be safe! Sifu Garry

GMDW told me that Daoist Monk Fung Do Duk, was guided by a Goddess from Heaven though meditation and learnt the Fei Fung Sunn Gung and when he awoke 9 yrs or something had passed, maybe Sifu Terry can tell this story as he is the man for this system?

Burning Palm is an elemental system combining Daoist & Tibetan practices!

Friend, Nice post! Yes, the Bak Fu Pai energy systems build upon themselves, FP and 18 levels Burning palm also the 72 Sunn Yee Gong all build upon themselves but all made up of its own energetics!

If anyone read my older post I mention to know YOUR body, and lung capacity which contains FULL BODY AWARENESS! All your questions will be answered through TRAINING and meditation when doing FP or Burning Palm or whatever you are learning. Most people want the fast lane and expect things straight away when they havent even understood the most important thing " THEMSELVES"!
  11. Flying Phoenix Chi Kung

That question maybe the mystery, remember that Daoist and many cultures learnt and imitated many animals, insects etc. For instance the Tortoise in chinese Daoism is revered for its longevity and special breathing skills, of holding the breath for a very long time. And there is a practice of holding the breath for a period of time called tortoise breathing that is said to give immortality, so the breath percentages comes from ancient sages and masters that where into this stuff!

The mixture or oxygen and carbon dioxide triggers and unlocks certain energy centres in the body, especially the brain! Just like deep abdominal breathing cultivates the dan tian....hope that helps?

Who said that FP wouldnt open the MCO and maybe the MCO has nothing to do with FP, but let me say ive seen my teacher do many amazing things and he never once said that you need to open the MCO to do what he showed. The breath percentage is to bypass many of the things that nei gong is said to do just my 2 cents! My problem is you will take Sifu Dunns FP and totally water it down and next there will be FP KAP Qi Kung, people have no respect and think they know better than the teacher/s about the art they want to learn but have no idea about. Just my concern do what you want to do, free country but maybe keep your KAP and FP separate but train both?
  14. Flying Phoenix Chi Kung

Why does everyone here have to or want to try and mix practices, When half of you havent even trained long enough in one of the arts anyway? Just another way to stuff up a completely perfect internal cultivation system!!!

According to GMDW he would have to sit and watch and listen as well document his father / grandfather breathing and using the caucasian percentage method to help him better understand it so he could do it better himself or you would have to sit and watch / listen to Sifu Terry breathing. I cannot remember the type of Yoga name right now I think Ramayana (if thats a yoga system) it has breath percentage breathing too, the name maybe wrong but I did some research many many years ago starting my Burning Palm and found it to be similar to what the Bak Fu Pai or GMDW was teaching. Definitely time to return to the ancient ways! In the words of my Burning Palm teacher Grandmaster Doo Wai - " Let the Past, Enhance the Future'! So true are these words... be well Sifu Garry

Axe, Many things could be part of your experience, stress , diet, even over thinking things (training) etc? I dont know if FP has it but usually it will with the 3 breaths to come out which is to return the energy back into the Dan Tian plus in Burning Palm we have shaking to release any negative energy or over active energy as well trapped energy in the body followed by tapping or slapping the meridians? I advise my Burning Palm students to either sit longer at the end after the finish of the breath percentage and not come out straight away and allow the energy to further circulate or return. I also advice my students to fully understand what a full breath is before they even try the breath percentage, because YOU have to know YOUR FULLY CAPACITY of YOUR LUNGS!!! By doing so you learn about your body better and when you know your body and your breathing (lung capacity) you should be able to bring it back to normality. That being said I dont teach FP qi kung, but seen much of it, and to me it shouldnt be harmful I would suggest you see a TCM doctor and check your health before starting any exercise anyway. Especially Qi Kung or maybe Sifu Terry has herbal formulas that could help your health as maybe your health isnt ready for such a practice??? Just thought!!! My 2 cents worth.... Sifu Garry

Hey, Yup and through my years of training and speaking with many kung fu sifu's, each real Traditional Kung Fu system has its own Nei gung/ Hei Gung that is suited for that system. Never seen Northern black snake, can you tell me more about this system? Regards Garry
  20. Flying Phoenix Chi Kung

Agree with Sifu Terry, I never mix my training meditation and forms of other systems, if I practice Burning Palm I will only do the BP Meditations with the external training that goes with that system. If I do Yau Kung Mun I will also just do YKM Internal with the YKM Sphere body training as it goes hand in hand, Yau and Gung, Gung and Yau. Certain energy systems only wired for that system, you mix it you have to rewire or you short circuit the body and gain nothing. Nice post Si Hing! Gaz

Right on!!! The spinning web also becomes formless or spontaneous when in a meditative state and it feels you spin for the healing part of the body and energy field working the breath into every movement and gathering the Qi, wrapping it around, weaving it over you and outside of you, you can make it fluffy or bring the energy in tightening the body from outside to inside, and the fluffy as u mention out from the marrow into, past and out through the skin into the universe. You can release and trap thoughts this way especially from a healing perspective!

When I get around to it, ill make a clip of doing slow and meditative, that was for some students to show more martial way as you can see the body shape, qi and intent is different to a qi kung perspective for health although this exercises done in a martial intent will give great health results and sensitivity but in a relaxed health orientated way like Qi kung you will get similar results physically but the energy and body awareness can be much greater depending on students of course. I can switch on the energy and connect within a second be it martial energy or emptiness/stillness. All is mind...
  23. Flying Phoenix Chi Kung

To me the Spinning of the web is your own magnetic field or aura, meaning you spinning your own web, or building up the aura and become super sensitive to energies physical or non physical like more in tune with your body and energy! Similar to YKM Internal form - Lion rolling a ball "Si Ji Kwan Kou"

Si-Hing, Hope all is well, the BP Spider spinning wed exercise will eventually lead students to finding all BP fighting and wrestling techniques come from this. Its done solo and 2 man even just for understanding the different forces, structure testing etc. It can be done very slow and meditative which the spinning of the web is similar to reeling silk in taiji for health and qi cultivation. Since the BP uses the Soong Tahn Ging " Loose Springy Force" it combines short and long power from the coiling of the body, trying to be Soong to release the Ging. I enjoyed your 8 sections combined has a lot of similarities hidden in the movements! Take care Sihing Sifu Garry

Thanks Craig, the BP System is very simple but very deep at the same time. I sent you an email and the BP Dit Dar Jow and BP Massage oil is on its way over! Sifu
