  1. A friend sent me a link today asking about this Qinway Qigong thing. From reading the site, it sounds like too much hype with lots of big words covered in New Age BS. Anyone met the woman teaching it?

I took a weekend retreat in November 2001 in the bay area. It was one of the first Qigong training's I took. Yes it is pricey. I have no regrets. I am glad I took the program it was a good start. The program is based around building Chi and then very little food so that the body can detoxify and regenerate. Your mileage may vary.

As an organization Qinway seems to seems to suffer from many of the ills of many New Age organizations and lacks direction and focus. The leader has limited English abilities and does seem to want to become fluent in English. A man named John did most of the work 10 years ago setting up the website organizing training's etc. When he left he was criticized and ridiculed. This being critical of other people or organizations really turns me off. It is hardly turning the other check. If you believe in Karma and reincarnation, then it seems like you want to see the good in all people at all times. So there you have it the good and the bad. Take the good and leave the rest.

  2. Do you think that when he says the things like eliminating the Department of Education, Department of Energy, etc . . He is referring to relinquishing the governments control over these things, so that the free enterprise can pick it up in the more efficient manner?

I feel that if buisnesses were less concerned about thier profit margins and focused more on making a sustainable company, with quality and lasting products, we would be better off in general.

There are lots of not-for profit and for profit company's that would be more than happy to fill these voids and they would have to compete with eachother so that the consumers gets a good deal. Especially with the internet and our access to competitors of any given products.

Also he proposes to keep the Social Security for the elders who have a vested interest in it, and make a transition away from it, not completely cutting it off.

  3. I spent a number of years as a sleep consultant. Talking with people who suffered with sleep apnea was a regular occurrence.

There is an alarming amount of people who can't handle the machines or the mouthgaurds. My focus was to get them looking very closely at their sleeping posture by examining the orthopedic quality of their mattress and pillows. If the spine and neck are not in alignment properly then the airways are restricted.

Recommendation: Get a friend to check out your spine and neck alignment in your favorite sleeping positions. You may start to get some relief this way.

    Also...

Please excuse me if this is being insensitive, but are you carrying too much weight? Overweight people are prime candidates for sleep apnea because the extra flesh around the throat constricts the airways.

    Also...

Is your sleep environment free of dust mites? Dust mite feces is highly toxic and allergenic, I have met a few people who, when sleeping, would have their nasal and throat passages inflame and swell up causing snoring and sleep apnea. One chap in particular stopped snoring over night by sleeping in a dust mite free environment.

Learn to play the didgeridoo ;) In a Swiss study published in the British Medical Journal, it was found that didgeridoo playing is an effective alternative treatment for moderate obstructive sleep apnea. It was hypothesized that the circular breathing technique may improve muscular tone of the upper airway and reduce the collapsibility that is common in sleep apnea.

Consider getting a Frolov device. You can Google it. It cost about $100. And has done great things for me. It creates a breathing pattern similar to playing a didgeridoo but quieter

  5. Fasting yo, it's doubles your willpower by the day. Check out my post in the "off topic" section for sum resources.

Fasting is great. also consider Steam and Sauna to help detoxify. Do check out some 12 step meetings if you find a good one you will find good friends. All of us that have addictions tend to have more then one. When I quit smoking I took up compulsive eating.

  6. Could you please expand on this ?

I mean I've got a soft spot for the Venus project but Scientology is to me the best embodiment of a brainwashing deadend cult.

Agreed Scientology is not based on science. Where I see the two as similar is that they both say good things, but Scientology is about control and domination. I am sure that the same thing would happen if Venus project had the power to do what they say they want to do. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. I don't get any idea that they wish to follow the Tao or trust in a Higher Power. This is a very ego driven program. Also I don't agree with there belief that addictions are caused by unequal wealth. Just my opinion.

  7. I have only gone to one psychic. She was looking at a crystal ball and telling me my future. I guess my future looked funny to her She started to laugh uncontrolably. I got mad and slugged her. This was very uncharcteristic of me, In fact it was the first time I had struck a happy medium.

  8. this thread reminds me of a story. A young man was attracted to a yourng lady, he felt the feeling was mutual. However, being a good Taoist he was health conscious and hated it when a woman lit a cigarette after sex. Since he did not know her very well, he just came out and asked her "Do you smoke after sex?' Her reply. " I don't know I never looked".
