  1. Thoughts, like blowing leaves

This is why I stopped keeping a meditation journal. It just got in the way and actually spoiled my practice. I was always looking to disect, judge, analyze and try to understand my meditations. It became a burden. One day I just let go of all of it and just let the experience be. I never wrote another word in my journal.
  2. This is very insulting to people who are married and have children like myself. Your ignorance knows no bounds. If you have nothing worthwhile to add to the forums, do us all a favour and please leave.
  3. Who/what is this 'Creator', Bodyoflight ? Who/what created the creator ......................?
  4. Breaking Down Peoples Practice

Xing Yi Nei Gong is a martially orientated set, but you don't have to practice any martial arts in order to benefit. The benefits are numerous, but the underlying basis for this set is to heal and strengthen the body, from the inside out, to live a long healthy, happy life, free of physical pain and disease. The set focusses deep inside the body, exercising fascia, tendon, bone marrow and keeping the bodily fluids in motion, thereby not allowing them to stagnate, which can cause many health problems. As I've stated before, the pictures on the front of the book of Wang Ji Wu (the set's founder), performing the exercises at nearly 100 years of age is the only encouragement I need to practice. There are 17 movements in the set, with differing numbers of repetitions according to the exercise that is being performed. The set starts off slowly and builds to quite an exilarating workout by the time it's finished. San ti shi is the main zhan zhuang of xingyiquan. A good website which goes into detail is here.
  5. Qi gong without Gong

I think what you have described is wu wei. Non-action= non-imposing, just letting whatever happens do so naturally, without interference.
  6. Qi gong without Gong

Yes, and it spoils everything. I'm definitely with you on this. When we categorize, divide, label and separate, it creates tension, aggression and conflict. It's much better to see the similarities, instead of the differences.
  7. Breaking Down Peoples Practice

My day starts early at 5am. After waking, I do my Xing Yi Nei Gong set, which takes around 25 minutes. I try my best to be mindful of my movements at all times and not to drift off into mind-chatter. After rubbing down/closing, I'll get my zafu and sit in full lotus for half an hour, with eyes lightly closed, doing deep, normal abdominal breathing. Then it's time to get ready to go to work. On an evening I'll do another set of Xing Yi Nei Gong, followed by san ti shi standing for about 10 minutes and maybe some five fist forms, if time allows. On weekends, when I'm not at work, I'll rise a little later and go for a nice long walk in the countryside. I'm fortunate, that I live in a semi-rural environment. Only 5 minutes from my door and there's no sound of traffic or people. Just the sounds of the natural world waking up. It's wonderful. Great thread.
  8. Kung Fu

Agreed, but it wasn't about the fighting. Much more about the philosophy, virtue, ethics and moral conduct. I am a bit biased as I have them all on DVD.
  9. Kung Fu

The Tao of Kung Fu Enjoy !
  10. Kung Fu

    Amazing film !
  11. Immortals (Xian Shi)

Nice to see you back on the forums.
  12. What rubbish is this ? Samadhi schamadhi ??? This is buddhist. What is a buddhist like you, Bodyoflight doing on a daoist forum ?
  13. Your posts are boring and repetetive Bodyoflight. Get off your high horse man.
  14. What if some people on these forums don't want to be 'enlightened', whatever that means anyway. I am certainly not chasing after enlightenment. Try posting on a Buddhist forum. Oh, I forgot, this is.
  15. Your Perspective

This isn't a critique of your thread by any means because I realize that everyone has their own path. However, I don't consider myself to fit in to any of the above catagories. I refuse to be pinned down to any 'system' of religion/spirituality or belief. All have good points but have the equivalent 'questionable' points also. If I were to describe myself it would be Cultivator of the Way. This leaves it open to whatever it wants to be.
  16. I think it is also. The same arguments and viewpoints.
  17. I never mentioned me being a Daoist. I reject all labels especially authoritarian religious and spiritual belief systems. I did however say I was a cultivator of the Dao. How do you know of my level of neigong cultivation. Or of who I have met and have acquaintances with. Or of my meditation practice. What Daoist books have I read that you speak of ? I have no interest in becoming enlightened. Only to live a long, happy and healthy life, and to enjoy that life with my family. I have no intention to make you laugh, only to advise you that my lifestyle makes me happy, regardless of your viewpoint.
  18. Tulku, your view of a Daoist living a secluded life up a Chinese mountain, eating nothing but berries and having nothing to do with society, is an over-romanticized western way of looking at it. An escape from life and not an embracing of it. The Dao is everywhere, as are it's cultivators. It could be the checkout girl, a random guy you bump into at McDonalds, the guy sitting on his own on the bus, just as much as it is the Chinese Taiji instructor or the acupuncturist. People of the Dao also lead normal lives. It is over-indulgence which ruins everything. I had never even heard of the Dao when I got married and later had children. I like a beer now and again, a ride on a rollercoaster and an occasional burger. Does that make me less of a Dao cultivator ? Does it hell.
  19. Internal Martial Arts Classics

Thanks zerostao for the clarification of lian qi. As for the nei gong book, it has plenty of notes on each of the movements in the set. There is also 'written transmissions' of Dai Long Bang. Actually the style of xingyi is close to Xin Yi Liu He Quan, an art I have a fanatical appreciation of I just wish I could find a teacher to practice under. For now though, I'm happy with my neigong and my practice of the 5 fists. We could go into this further in a separate thread if necessary, as not to disturb the balance of this one.
  20. Internal Martial Arts Classics

I'm loving this thread. I practice xingyi but I've always been more on the practical side. As steve rightly points out, the first song is basic daoist cosmology and the caution not to waste energy on frivolous activities (too much sex, overeating, thrill-seeking, alcohol and drugs etc etc..), in order to maintain a long healthy life. The internal arts, of course, are an excellent way to accomplish this and I do think that a daily meditation practice is absolutely essential in order to progress. The second song seems to further reinforce this, especially the term 'make possible the ascent to the domain of longevity'. I'm not sure what 'Lian Qi' is though. Looking forward to more.
  21. Demonstration of emitting qi

I always thought Yijinjing was a method used to heal and strengthen the body, hence it's name, the Muscle/Tendon Changing Classic.
  22. The power of Internal Martial Arts

Xin Yi Liu He Quan I love this devastating martial art and wish I could find someone to teach me. I found these videos on a discussion forum. Enjoy. videos
  23. Thank you for the Taoist discussion forum!
