Sometimes getting really angry is the best response. I was once bullied for many years by my moms second husband. After several years of putting up with his crap, he pushed one too many times, so I got in his face and basically promised to kick his ass if he didn't learn to treat me better, starting right now!!....Problem solved. He not only never bullied me again, he apologized long and deep and he is, to this day, exceptionally kind towards me. Some people need to get angry before they feel able to take action.
