  1. S.O.S. MJJ Becker!

Ken, I respect your opinion, but I disagree. I asked a simple question, and didn't start the flame war. In regards to mixing practices, that may well be good advice. Right now what I am attempting to do is learn about different effective practices and learn why and how they work, and gain a conceptual understanding. I am not content just to know a practice, but I am more concerned with how and why it functions. My apologies if I somehow offended you, I actually think a lot of you and your school. Yes, honestly. -mpg
  2. S.O.S. MJJ Becker!

I think if mjj's motivation was love for his fellow man he wouldn't be such an ass about it. I asked one simple little question and it blew up into this. I don't get it.
  3. S.O.S. MJJ Becker!

I will tell you what I think, I think mjj feels special and wants to keep it that way. The more people who seek masters like chang, liping, etc the less he has to feel special about. I've met people with his personality in the linux circles, "if everyone learns linux we wont be ubergeeks anymore therefore its in our best interests to maintain the status quo", they like pound out the mantra that "linux is hard to use, and you can screw your computer up with linux". I think mjj belongs to this elitist mindset, that's just my $0.02
  4. S.O.S. MJJ Becker!

I don't think basic meditation is going cause your heart valve to blow up, I don't think basic qigong exercises will cause your heart valve to blow up. I don't think anything I learned about LMP, or spring forest qigong is going to cause a heart valve to explode. I could be wrong though I've been wrong many times in the past. I can't comment on higher levels as I know nothing about them.
  5. S.O.S. MJJ Becker!

I was given some basic information on meditation that was it bro, I seriously have no clue how that is this huge deal your making it out to be.
  6. S.O.S. MJJ Becker!

Mjj, Ouch such a temper for such an enlightened individual. I asked a sincere question what do you think of Chang personally, do you dislike him? Please no more flaming and dodging. I personally get the impression you don't like him, am I wrong?
  7. S.O.S. MJJ Becker!

No actually all he gave me was some basic information on meditation, and that was it, the rest of my knowledge came from other individuals. Everything he taught me is covered somewhere in the Spring Forest Qigong Course, so I don't see how he could have violated any oath helping others meditate correctly, but whatever you believe is fine. He is a really good person, even though you make him out to be an Antichrist. Perhaps your right though my knowledge of the higher levels may not be accurate, but what I have had explained to me was almost identical to exercises we were taught in the initial lmp training. The hand positions and movements were slightly different but the core exercise was preformed the same. Also I have encountered other schools with very similar exercises, these exercises seem to be ubiquitous amongst many taoist qigong schools. Yet there so dangerous you can blow a heart valve, I don't know if I believe that or not. P.S. I am still curious if you dislike Chang, and no this wasn't a snipe at you it was asked as a sincere question.
  8. Lung-gom-pa

it may be purely psychosomatic, our brain stops us from using 1/10th of our true muscle potential as it might damage our muscle fibers. I don't know exactly to be honest but I do know we have huge reserves of untapped potential, mentally, physically, and energetically waiting to be tapped into.

  10. S.O.S. MJJ Becker!

Mjjbecker, Just curious, do you dislike Chang? I notice you talk about how dangerous his system is, etc. (even though the exact same exercises are taught in long men pai)

I know I practice qing gong when I have to left our barrels full of garbage at work, some are extremely heavy. When I focus, strongly on them becoming light as a feather, they do become lighter at least to my perception. and I am able to dump them into the dumpster with ease. I also lifted my car out of a ditch using this same technique.
  13. How do you see chi and biology?

Yeah you also get millions of people hounding you each day to teach them parlor tricks, and government labs wanting to dissect your brain. Is that worth a million bucks? I'd have to answer no, if you had abilities like Chang et all you could use them more discreetly to acquire wealth if that was what you desired.
  14. How do you see chi and biology?

If you can explain a phenomenon scientifically, then it isn't supernatural. I don't care who's definition we are using, its common sense.
  15. I was going to make the topic title Meditations To Calm Anger and Agitations (Besides Metta, and Emptiness)? but this morphed into something other than what I expected, this is just some rant I hope you get a chuckle out of it, yes this really happened, and no its not that abnormal for me in any way. Today has been a very interesting day for me. I am going to vent about it a little so you can go ahead and stop reading now if you like I awoke this morning to a soft rap tap tap on on my bedroom window at 1am, it wasn't a raven it was someone I used to work with 2 years ago who found out where I lived and wanted to visit. I talk to him for a minute and explain I am opening the store in a few hours and need some sleep. He insists on hanging out and eating some food and using my interwebz because he has none, I explain I'm going to sleep and he has to be gone by 6am because I am going to work. I wake up almost late for work, get showered and make it barely in time to open in time. I open the door, the shirtless guy on the motorcycle is camping my spawn ugg, I wish I could drop agro on these npc's I wish I had memmed my feign death spell this morning. The chatty old lady who likes to bring me 1960's tech gadgets because she heard I was a computer geek comes in for a Sunday news paper and has to tell me about her wonderful new granite countertops, and about her washing machine that's off balance and the repair men that have been out 8 times to fix, but they haven't replaced it yet like the warranty states they should have, shes going to sue them for sure if she doesn't get a new washer. She's upset because her neighbor drinks too much beer and doesn't take out his trash, shes certainly going to call child services on him as "obviously" he's a meth dealer. Her outdoor pet squirrels seem to be doing well after the death of their mother, at the hands of her meth dealing neighbors. She asks if she can plaster our front door with signs trying to sell her old particleboard laminate counter tops, $150 wow what a great deal! She tells me that the local grocery store has a special on shrimp this week, oh boy! The phone rings (I'm saved) I continue talking long after the other party hangs up, eventually I notice her drifting towards the door and waving, my eye slightly twitches as I anxiously wait for car to leave the parking lot, I watch our CCD camera display like its a sporting event. Shes gone, I can tell this day is going to be long. I pour another cup of coffee, and brew a pot of green tea for lunch and set it aside to cool. The store is now full of people, all wanting bakker. Some hairy redneck asks for some chewinn backker, this conjures up visuals in my mind of chewbaca the wooky from star wars, I wonder if Lucas ever worked at a convenience store is this where his name came from, some hairy red neck? I laugh to myself. It's odd to see the mix of people in my area, almost all of the highly educated people aren't from around here, most of the locals don't or can't read newspapers. I look at these people and remember that they have the same right to vote as I do, the harsh reality slowly sinks in.... It's time for church, everybody decides to buy beer, sorry you can't buy beer on Sunday! Nope its a state law. Yes I know its stupid. No I can't just pretend you are getting something else, no I can't ring it up as gasoline, yes I know gasoline has ethanol in it now, no you can't pay for that with pills, no I don't know if fix-a-flat works on lawn mowers, good maybe you can drink the gasoline then because I sure as hell can't sell beer today. Redneck #42 arrives and buys all our allergy pills and starting fluid, I certainly hope its not what I am assuming its for, but sadly it probably is. Yay! It's crazy lottery guy. I can smell the cheap dollar store cologne before the door finishes opening, he's got gray chest hair and is wearing an absolutely horrid Hawaiian button up shirt, he smiles at me with his gold tooth. He sounds like a used car salesman and he has about 60 tickets for me to check for him, one winner out of the bunch, and he's certain I scammed him out of his "other" winning tickets. He hangs around for about 45minutes recounting and shuffling through his deck sized wad of tickets, and leaves mumbling something. I think this man is a cross between billy mays, magnum P.I., and that weird old man on family guy. Great! now here comes lawnmower man, he lost his license so he drives his lawnmower a few miles to the store, he piles the counter up full of BBQ supplies, I watch him drive away straddling bags groceries and bags of charcoal between his legs on the lawnmower. Oh Boy! Now here is gold pan man, he's about 70 years old 90% deaf, and not a tooth in his head. He has a mission for me, I have to translate a love poem someone wrote him from cursive which he can't read to large printed letters, I take up three pages of notebook paper to accomplish this. This is worse than vogon poetry, I will my large intestine to throttle my brain and kill me instantly, sadly it doesn't. I wonder sometimes is this really happening, I bite my lip till I feel a pinch, yes sadly I believe it is. Oh great it's time for lunch, would I like to buy some chicken? No not precooked chicken, no not de plucked chicken, LIVE Chicken, yes for only $20 I too can own a live rooster, of fighting origin I am assured.. I decline the offer on the chicken, although I feel sorry for the poor thing. Oh great someone with money wants to buy my laptop, finally some good news, ah I see no money. Can I take payment plans, no, get a credit card if you want credit, no it wont make you breakfast, no it doesn't have a 10 year warranty, no I wont hold it for you till next week, no you can't take it home to see if your child will like it. OH MY GOD STOP TALKING... I feel a circuit in my brain fry out, as the lady humphs her way out of the store. I check the taobums oh great, some douchebag wants to troll me, when I invent that device that lets me stab people in the face over the interwebz I am going to become rich and retire. come on closing time... I can feel the seconds tick by in my mind, I am really looking forward to kicking some ass in battlefield 2142, I am home, time to blow off some steam on 2142... for some reason after 5 rounds of winning and owning just about everyone else on the server... I am still very agitated... I decide to meditate for a while, 30 minutes of metta usually works well for relieving stress (at least for me), but doesn't seem to have any effect this time. Emptiness meditation, I can't relax, my anger and agitation are palpable, I decide to go for a walk at dusk and try to just breath, I find myself just wanting to punch the ever living shit out of someone. I really want to see some blood tonight, in some dark animalistic craving that is welling up inside of me... I wonder guys do other people experience emotions on this level and is it normal? I think I am going to go have a beer, I never get out of this house...

Randi's challenge is for proof of supernatural or occult powers, no such thing exists. Every event and phenomenon is apart of nature and hence natural, even the ones we don't understand yet. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1767800 Effect of emitted bioenergy on biochemical functions of cells. Chien CH, Tsuei JJ, Lee SC, Huang YC, Wei YH. Department of Biochemistry, National Yang-Ming Medical College, Taipei, Taiwan. The 3-5 microns infrared spectra of the external "Qi" generated by a "Qigong" master from his palm was measured using a III-V compound semiconductor InSb detector. It was found that certain Qigong master can emit two opposite kinds of "Qi": the "facilitating" (beneficial) and "inhibiting" (destroying) "Qi". During the facilitating "Qi" emission, large amount of infrared wave were detected by a temperature rise of the air in the vicinity. When the inhibiting "Qi" was emitted, the infrared wave was absorbed from the environment resulting in a cooling of the air. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1353653 Detection of extraordinary large bio-magnetic field strength from human hand during external Qi emission. Seto A, Kusaka C, Nakazato S, Huang WR, Sato T, Hisamitsu T, Takeshige C. Department of Physiology, School of Medicine, Showa University, Tokyo, Japan. It is generally accepted that more than 10(-6) gauss order magnetism was not detected in normal human condition. However, we detected 10(-3) gauss (mGauss) order bio-magnetic field strength from the palm in special persons who emitted External Qi ("Chi" or "Ki"). This detection was possible by special arranged magnetic field detection system, consisted of a pair of 2 identical coils with 80,000 turns and a high sensitivity amplifier. Each of the coils were rolled 80,000 turns accurately, and were connected in series in opposite direction, actuating as a gradiometer. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9051169 Emission of extremely strong magnetic fields from the head and whole body during oriental breathing exercises. Hisamitsu T, Seto A, Nakazato S, Yamamoto T, Aung SK. Department of Physiology, Showa University School of Medicine, Tokyo, Japan. This article reports the result of an experiment that was designed to measure the biomagnetic field emanating from two individuals who were practising traditional Oriental Qi Gong breathing exercises. The biomagnetic field was measured with differential coils wound 80,000 turns, a magnetic needle compass and a digital electromagnetic wave detection device. It was found that an extremely strong magnetic field was emitted from the two individuals. One subject emitted a magnetic field at the level of 200-300 mT (2-3 mGauss) and the other at 0.13 mT (1.3 mGauss). In both cases, moreover, the magnetic needle compass rotated 30 degrees (this was tested 32 times). When the rotation of the needle occurred, a reproducible magnetic field of 800-1500 mT (8-15 mGauss) was indicated on the digital measuring device (this was tested 12 times). It is concluded that traditional Oriental Qi Gong breathing appears to stimulate an unusually large biomagnetic field emission. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11474806 Effects of QiGong on brain function. 1: Neurol Res. 2001 Jul;23(5):501-5. Litscher G, Wenzel G, Niederwieser G, Schwarz G. Biomedical Engineering Unit, Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care, University of Graz, Auenbruggerplatz 29, A-8036 Graz, Austria. [email protected] QiGong is an ancient and widely practiced Chinese meditation exercise. We studied the effects of QiGong on brain function with modern neuromonitoring tools in two subjects. In a male QiGong master (extremely trained practitioner), the technique induced reproducible changes in transcranial Doppler sonography, EEG, stimulus-induced 40 Hz oscillations, and near-infrared spectroscopy findings. Similar effects were seen after the application of multimodal stimuli and when the master concentrated on intense imagined stimuli (e.g. 22.2% increase in mean blood flow velocity (vm) in the posterior cerebral artery, and a simultaneous 23.1% decrease of vm in the middle cerebral artery). Similar effects were seen in the female subject. Neuromonitoring during QiGong appears able to objectify accompanied cerebral modulations surrounding this old Chinese meditation exercise. http://www.scribd.com/doc/192882/Tai-Chi-Q...Experimentation John Chang RAAB0dbc3Es#t=5m58s Wim Hoff Tummo (inner fire) Meditation Master Discovery Channel Documentary madoDvtKEes Breaking Another World Record jfCsSDiPZxk More info on Tummo Meditation History Channel Documentary R-wuOYlxMSY http://www.news.harvard.edu/gazette/2002/04.18/09-tummo.html
  17. I sell people "fixes" for their bad habits, nicotine, alcohol and gambling, its probably the worst job karmically speaking that I could have XD I sell laptops, and do computer repair on the side and on off days, I try to be nice to everyone and there are a few intelligent people I have met and like that are customers there, like an author and an ex EEG technician, but that's about it. Unless I am willing to pack it up and move to the city this is as good as its going to get, I could probably make more use of my skillset in a city than this podunk town, but I can't stand cities there are even more stupid people there and they're more violent too.
  18. The happiest time in my life, was working as a dish washer at this little cafe before it closed down. I listened to my cd player and headphones (before mp3 players, just after cdburners came out), it was long hours, no contact with other people, steady work, and low pay. I did my job and went home, and work didn't follow me home and ask me to fix its computer for it. Actually finding work is incredibly hard right now, I am really luck to have anything, one day I keep telling myself, I will reach escape velocity.... Thats what enables me to keep going. cheers everybody.

  20. Anyone have a Schumann Resonance link?

Newagers believe if you use binaural beats to entrain the Schumann frequency you can tap into the collective unconscious earth brain internet. Maybe there right, who knows.
  21. Anyone have a Schumann Resonance link?

There is plenty of information to be had on Google and Wikipedia about this phenomenon. I was at work so I didn't go into detail and assumed you might read up on your own about it. In laymen's terms the Schumann is a natural radio station at 7.83 Hz the earth emits, that's a really simple explanation and may not be 100% scientifically accurate but that's the gist of it. Has it been verified to exist scientifically? Yes, but I am not going to spend any more time digging up scientific verification of the Schumann resonance for you though, Wikipedia, the encyclopedia and Google can give you more than you would ever need anyway. In terms of brainwaves 7.83hz is in the theta band, the same that is seen in REM sleep where your dreaming. A lot of new age people believe that the Schumann frequency is the point where we link up to the collective unconscious, and exchange information in some sort of earth based wireless neural network. I can say that brainwaves in the theta/delta border are where I personally believe the sweetspot is for meditation.
  22. How do you see chi and biology?

John Chang says that chi is able to flow easily through metal, my theory is that whatever chi is it's electromagnetic in nature. Many studies done on qigong masters show electromagnetic anomalies, huge electrostatic fields being generated at their palms, ionized channels of air being created during chi projection, huge magnetic field fluctuations around them during meditation, infrared and infrasonic emissions from their palms and also large amounts of gamma band brainwave activity.
