  1. You have to remember that taiji started as a martial art. The most important thing to learn is the particular way of moving the body with internal strength and whole body power. This is the shen fa. Study the idea of liu-he, the six harmonys, with particular emphasis on the wai san-he at first. The qi will take care of itself until then.
  2. I apologize if this is not where this goes, it's the only thread I read. I'm teaching Dao neigong and Yizong martial arts once a month in Boston, if there any Boston folks here.
  3. Bagua Neigong in Boston

Sorry, I haven't seen the revised version. The swings are done initially slow then amped a bit so you can strike your body (pai da).
  4. Kalonji Oil

    Death isn't a disease.
  5. There's more stuff here: http://www.insidersasia.com/demo.php

The swings are described in Kumar's first book. I would add one caveat, though. When doing the swing (paricularly the first) you should bend the knees when facing forward, but raise up straight to the sides. This will prevent any tugging on the sacrum. Some of the best work I have seen is by Pete Egoscue. His books (Pain Free, etc) are just top notch!
  7. Bagua Neigong in Boston

Hi, I'm happy to explain but I don't know which gong you are referring to. Buddy
  8. Bagua Neigong in Boston

I am teaching BK Frantzis' neigong system and Luo Dexiu's ba duan jin and Gao style baguazhang as well as tao yin. Questions?
  9. heads & the chat

Head comes from pothead. It implies drug usage. That was the early 70s, baby.
  10. Interesting Book

He's the best. He's coming back to the states this summer
  11. Interesting Book

Jess is a friend of mine. Bernie (from the book?) is my classmate. And of course Kumar was my teacher and Luo Dexiu still is.
  12. Yang Jwing Ming

I think he's much more a translator (and I hate his transliterations) than master. And for taiji is white crane. Topfan, looks like you might be down near me.
  13. what kind of water do you drink?

    Does beer count?
  14. Time and Space

Space and Time are relative. But they're not qigong.
  15. Greets

Hi, I'm Buddy from Mass. I teach taoist neigong and Gao style baguazhang.

Cameron, "Do you know of the late Sifu Kenny Gong? The main internal MA guy near me(besides Aikido) is/was his disiple for 20 years. I did a class, really nice guy..showed me some basic Bagua walking and some Shing Yi. I hesitate because I have this thing in my head that it's best to just focus on one MA and get really good at it." So, while I don't know this guy or his skill, and if you are asking my opinion, I would do Mr. Gong's xingyi (I don't know about his bagua) over aikido any day. "You probably so all my ramblings asking the board whether I should practice Brazillian Jiu Jitsu or Aikido. I have trained in both, mostly aikido, but have been getting mixed feelings on which one I really wanted to train in long term." In my experience moast of the aikido I have seen is very unrealistic. BJJ is very realistic but to quote Ba Ruttan (MMA guy) "in a street fight, you don't want to go to the ground." I think cross training in the xingyi and BJJ would be a great idea. "There are only so many days in a week so if I go to bagua one night and Aikido one night and BJJ one night I have to think doing aikido 3 nights would be better." See above. Funny thing, I think we had these discussions years ago. I just love MA so much and there is so much cool but different stuff out there you know. "shit, I feel like I am talking about trying to find the right woman to marry or something. Ok..so..how did you know Baguzhang and all the stuff you trained was the "right one" what feeling or impulse distinguished it that gave you the concrete feeling "this is my path"." To be honest because I thought it was cool. The I met Kumar and then Luo. "Heck, I guess if you could answer how you decided the Water Method was your spiritual path over everything else that's out there that would be great also." It found me. Buddy Cameron
  17. I know some of you here are interested in Paulie Zink's Taoist Yoga. So this is just a heads up for those of you on the east coast. He will be doing a weekend seminar (like the one in Cali) in Boston in October.
  18. Greets

All these kind words...If any of you have any questions about Kumar's stuff I am more than happy to tell you all I know. I'm not much for secrecy and feel it doesn't need to take as long to really get this material as some seem think. I mean it still takes a great deal of work, but not 20 years of work. B
  19. Hmmm, while my love is baguazhang, I'm never bored when practicing taiji. It's all in the shenfa (body method), and keeping the yi in the form.
  20. Greets

Hey Cameron! The honor is mine. It's funny, my moniker should have been Taoren, apparently Taojen means something like angry or crazy...wait a minute..that might be right after all. Cheers, Buddy
  21. I need advice on K.S.Cohen

Ah yes, I remember you now.
  22. I need advice on K.S.Cohen

"Your not Buddy Trip are you?" I am Buddy Tripp, yes. How do you know of me?
  23. What do you do?

I teach Gao baguazhang, Wu taijiquan Hebei xingyiquan, taoyin, and neigong. Also tend bar.
  24. America

First, the answer. "Outside of Thanksgiving, can anyone come up with anything that all of America celebrates as its own?" Thanksgiving? Most cultures have a Thanks giving. So the quick answer is...jazz. But really, no need for all this alarmism. The rest of the world is upset because we have exported our culture. But time and tide will wash all of this away. We're no worse or better than Rome, the Byzantines, the Ottomans, the Khans, The British, French or Dutch. Once the Chinese become the dominant world power everyone will bitch about them, if we're allowed to (which, by the way, we have the right to now).
