  1. Congrads on the weight loss.  Ketosis and/or Paleo diet?

I'm no expert or good example, but there many vegetables that are low carb and acceptable in either systems.  If you're close to succeeding at the weight you want to be, consider taking some cheat meals or days to rebalance.

Maybe you can add some greens.  Salads.. how about roasted vegetables?  They can be very satisfying and what can be more grounding then some root vegetables?  Roasted or pan fried Shitake mushrooms can be nicely meatlike.

If I have my information correct, it is more a matter of my yin and yang being outbalanced that I need to work on. Being that the ketogenic diet creates more body heat, I would (in my novice eyes) think that there is too much yang going on.

  2. So, I am in the process of losing a lot of weight, almost 40 lbs down at this point. The very specific diet I am on has me eating almost exclusively meat, cheese and eggs. I know my energy is out of whack, because I stay pretty stressed out and angry a lot. Any help anyone can offer on getting some balance?

  3. Amituofo. So, my soon to be wifes 14 yr old daughters have autism. We were told that tai chi would be a good thing for them as it can teach some focus on their bodies movements and could be calming. So, I come here because I don't want to shell out $145 on tai chi classes for them with no idea if they will stick with it or not. So, if anyone has any beginning qigong or tai chi dvd's that they think are simple enough for these children, I would much appreciate it. Please feel free to PM me about this if you have copies or such.

  4. Wow, has this site turned into a pile of shit. No wonder most of the people from years ago that posted the good stuff have left and moved on to other forums.

You do realize, that if you have belief in something, and it's real faith, you will ALWAYS think your path is the best. Otherwise why are you following it in the first place? This site has degenerated into some buddhists, hiding taoists, and and a giant lynch mob.

  5. I am familiar with many Daoist sciences and technologies that change the world for better in fields as medicine, human society, astronomy, self-defense, chemistry, mathematics, study of nature, animals and plants, strategy and logistics, governing a state or country, doing business, building a house, enriching the relationship between human beings, between male and female, raising children, being devoted and honouring the ancestors and parents/grandparents, nutrition, detox...

However, I know much less about Buddhist contribution regarding ACTUAL and Material well-being and care.

So, out of the many things you listed there, post some of them that actually came from taoism, and not the beliefs that were a precursor to taoism. I think you will be hard pressed to answer, if you actually do some research.

  6. I do not suffer fools.

No, but you certainly talk some truly ignorant bullshit.

    and childish in its precepts.

This comment right here, is enough for me to call you out, and say that you are a liar when you say you have talked to monks the world over. If you spoke even just to 1 monk in each of the places you referred to, you would have a basic understanding of why the precepts are what they are. Saying that they are childish, just shows that you are too weak to be able to follow some, maybe any, of them.

those who do not concider how they dis-affect or intrude on others, but only wish to propagate their agendas

You do realize that with your posts in this thread, you are now one of those inconsiderate ones you like to use ignore on? Pot meet kettle, etc.

    Try disagreeing, without being disagreeable.

  7. Vajrahridaya,

These discussions are pointless! To quantify or even attempt to define any phenomenon, whether in the realm of science or religion is an exercise in futility. The end point is always "my religion is better and more subtle than yours". Your arguments beg the question and always proceed from insubstantial evidence. e.g. You site the Pali Canon, use arcane terms and other sources as absolute evidence of every word the Buddha uttered. Can you prove the Pali Canon has been passed down intact? Are you any different than a fundamentalist of any faith asserting their scriptures are absolute? I think not.

    ralis

Really? Do you just not bother to do any research on your own? The Pali Canon is widely considered one of the best kept sets of religious texts ever. When do you hear about "newly discovered" texts that contradict the major teachings that are done? We're not talking about the bible here. The assertion that the scriptures are absolute, should be taken in the context of the discussion. This whole thing started by talking about what 1 of the suttas said. So, of course, the sutras would be considered accurate in the course of this discussion.

If you can't be assed to read everything and know wth you are talking about, maybe you should just keep your ignorance to yourself. Take your hate of religion elsewhere.

  8. "It is my opinion that we do not 'realize' Tao - we experience Tao."

-Exactly . What I had done was unintentionally develop a conceptualization of 'Tao', and spent some time trying to 'dive into it'. What this had led to was a state of 'oblivion' (as described in tSotGF.)

This realization dawned upon me in a powerful manner-- I had smoked a bunch of pot to accentuate and emphasize the experience.

It was unpleasant. (really, the first tip off... while it is possible to maintain an unpleasant practice whilst maintaining the subtle biss, oen should realize immediately if the practice is unpleasant.)

I'm curious, how do you think that the drug is going to be helpful? All it will do is befuddle the mind even more, so I'm not really grasping how you can in any way find it a positive tool.

  9. Also check out the Zen teachings on Rinzai, very good book, he never meditated, nor worshipped any gods.

Well, I guess its a good thing that Buddhism doesn't worship any gods huh? And if you think Rinzai never meditated, I feel really bad for your research skills. Please, if you don't actually know about something, don't try to sound like an authority on it.

  10. Put up the little things that you do during your daily activities to practice whatever it is that you practice....

    1. Pay attention. Fully to whoever is speaking, or fully to my body and my environment.

    2. Never sit with feet on the ground.

    3. Hold up arms when driving, don't let your grip hold the wheel with your arms hanging.

    4. Breath slowly and with the whole body.

    5. Move as slow, as coordinated, and intentful as you can while you go to pick up your glass of water off the table.

I don't know about number 2, but the rest is rather common for many Buddhist practitioners; it is called mindfulness. You put total attention on exactly what you are doing at that moment, and make all of your actions intentional.

  11. the subtlety of your remark, supplemented with a 'wink', does not 'blind' me from the implications of your words, buddhist.

'buddhist enlightenment' ... ...please... --and what are your implications, there?

typical lubby-dubby buddhist nonsense. if you're going to remark in my direction, have the balls to do it directly. subverting aggressive energy is not overcoming it.

blind.... please.... you're blind.... you're still yearning to some sort of superiority, through your subtlety. (do you think, perhaps, that it is wisdom? mayhaps it is, if you're surrounded by fools...)

I've got you, Buddhist. As long as you cling to your traditions, to your bullshit religion, you will smell like shit to me-- and you will never succeed me in either wisdom, or spiritual progress.

Wow man, just what is your issue? Such unbridled hatred; do you think that it in any way helps? If this is the way you respond to someone posting to someone else, then you have already been passed in wisdom by most on this board.

In case you missed it, read the description of this forum on the front page. You will find that the most common combined elements on this board will be Buddhism and Taoism, because they have gone somewhat hand in hand in China for hundreds of years. But if you get this worked up by someone speaking on a Buddhist topic, you may want to find a new place to go, because its going to be a constant here.

  12. I disagree with you about the topic. I do not "behave" out of fear of Karma. I behave because of the direct benefit upon my life.

Just wanted to point out, that your thoughts on karma are rather confused. Your "behaving" for the direct benefit to your life, is karma. Karma is not just something for when people do "wrong", it is a simple matter of action -> result. It's not somthing that can be feared, unless one fears any and all actions one may ever take.

  13. Renting knowledge is what happens when you feel that what you know has been imparted to you by others. So if you feel that your parents taught you language, and that the society taught you what you know about the world, then you are renting knowledge.

So you don't see yourself as the mother and father of language? As the birth place of language? That's too bad then.

Wow. Just, wow. Well, we can at least thank you for showing us that you are delusional. Everything you have ever and will ever learn was imparted on you by others. Whether by them teaching you, or by the experiences they were involved in where you learned it. It has nothing to do with how you learn something, rather, it is what you do with that knowledge.

  14. There are obviously better ways of expressing his "realistic, respectful" opinions on others than this: It is better to be a bad Buddhist than a Good Christian

I would have to actually say that I agree with that statement. A good christian will thoroughly believe that you, I, and the next guy on this board are going to hell. They will also follow that delusion with the "thought" that anyone who disagrees with what they believe is being fooled by satan, and can truly do no good. And we can't forget that they think everyone thats not a christian needs to be "saved", converted to their belief.

  15. Plus, there are some members on the forum that pretend to be masters, but who are actually morons in disguise.

Pot meet kettle? All one has to do is read most of your past posts to lump you into the same category.

It's very unfortunate, because Buddha had a few good insights, but they are getting drowned out in the sea of dogma, fundamentalism and mindless repetition of rituals (of which meditation is one... yes, it's a ritual, and often mindless one too, just something you "supposed" to do as a Buddhist).

This right here just shows how little you actually know of Buddhist practice and thought. You do realize that Tai Chi and Qi Gong are considered forms of meditation as well, right? It's all about calming the mind. Maybe you should give it a whirl.

No, that's not what my problem with e-sangha is. I don't expect to go to a christian church and hear the priest talk about other religions. I'd just like him not to vilify them, or to claim that Christianity has an exclusive copyright on truth. But that's what has been happening on e-sangha, and it isn't in the spirit of Buddhism.

While I agree it's not the spirit of Buddhism, I have to disagree with your gross misrepresentation of Christianity here. It DOES claim copyright on truth. Even as far as to say that its deity IS The Truth.
