  1. So the paperwork has went through I will be doing a volunteer police thing. Basically crossing guard stuff and directing traffic during events. Possibly helping swat train by being a hostage or such.

Anywho I am going to ask some police guys and such if they would be willing to help me do a video to be put on youtube about how OC (pepper) spray works. I will be getting shot with pepper spray 3 times once after meditating another after swinging a bat and yelling obscenities to get the adrenaline running. A third as a control. What way do you think I will "last" the longest? Adrenaline or meditation? Thoughts on why this might be?

    Thanks

  2. logically we should castrate all sex offenders. Why don't people do this if humanities teaches logic?

I have philosophically debated and proven through my debates that the moon is made of Swiss cheese not provolone like my opponent thought. What happens when an astronaut hands me a chunk of moon rock?

Lol I'm philosophizing in a thread talking about philosophy and humanities being dead.

  3. The main reason for studying the humanities is to develop critical thinking skills.

Cant I develop critical reasoning skills just by troubleshooting computers? please explain why this way teaches me how to analyse and evaluate to form a judgement. I believe I can do that through other means.

  4. Its hard to say.

Perhaps certain admin see it allowing the student to become "well rounded".

Perhaps it is a tactic to charge more credit hours to students in order to increase school funding.

I see every situation as an opportunity to learn something and i walk into my humanities with an open mind.

one thing is for sure...you have to take them...so why not try and learn something. i know i have; and i am glad i have taken certain classes even though they are not applicable to my major.

What are you studying? I was asking more Philosophically which is funny cause philosophy is a humanity depending on who you ask.

  5. So I cant really think of anyone else to ask, I will be searching around the internet to find other forums to ask on but this one has a diverse group of people and I would like your input. In modern day education are the humanities really needed? Have they become obsolete? If I want to become a data-center admin running servers for Google what good does learning Shakespeare do in preparing me for that job? How does studying a Vincent van Gogh painting help me?

    Thanks

  6. I agree with your post protector. I've gotten away from this stuff hence why I don't post here much anymore. but was gonna ask your opinions on something else so I came back and saw this.

I still read the tao te ching and art of war. I do like the way the books are written and they are fun.

  7. I currently don't carry weapons as a rule.

Well, except for my Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator, of course.

    ...and a shoe.

I have a friend he was a 400 pound high schooler who had special permition not to shower for 4 days before a wrestling match. anywho on the bus to the wrestling match some of the other kids on the bus were makiing fun of him so he took off his shoe and threw it at them. They about threw up and the coach told the kids to not make fun of him and the coach bought him a 15 dollar steak dinner to put his shoe back and to not take them off in the bus anymore.

  8. So I was showing someone a form and tried some moves with them i have a dull machete and they had a wooden cane. we hit the two together. the cane got lots of dings. I was surprised that it did we weren't even hitting that hard. This isn't the first time I have had wooden weapons break from hitting the ground or simulated targets before. I also have had the cloth on tai chi fans rip from opening and closing them too many times.

So i was wondering what is your guyses experience with weapons breaking in practice?

Also if you have any suggestions on toughening weapons up or if you know certain stick types that dont break as easily and such.

  9. carrying weapons everywhere is for people who live in fear.

agreed I am reminded of the movie where Eddy Murphy was a holy man and he said that a person always was prepared cause they didn't feel secure. so they would always carry wet naps and other stuff cause of there own insecurities.

Also of the quote that i heard on a Buddhist thing once "we have within all we need and all we have to do is call it out"

  10. So as you know I practice martial arts. as do other people on this forum lol. anyways I was wondering does anyone carry a kubotan or other weapon with them when out in public in case stuff goes down?

I myself sometimes will carry a kubotan if I get an "itch" to carry one but generally I dont cause I never have used one and they just take up space in a pocket and such. Online I see alot of people talking about why they carry one or other weapons and Im like "thats great but how often have you needed that"

    Anywho thoughts?

  11. So do you guyes that do martial arts, you ever have anyone go like "you do martial arts can you dodge this" and they throw a ball at you or such and you dont dodge it. I have had similar things happen and such. but I also have had times where I was able to catch something falling I attributed it to my martial arts.

    What are your guyses stories?

  12. read it, I always thought of that stuff more as a meditation. like meditating on what happens when you die. What your funeral will be like who will be there what will the cremation chamber look like etc etc.

so meditations on chopping up your body and feeding the hungry ghosts and such is plausible.

    moo

  13. So what phrase or set of phrases would you say is the tao and the like? as some people say in buddhism if you recite this mantra it is like reading all these sutras. What phrase or such would you say a taoist might say?

    The ones I like are

    What would a pony do?

swap pony for princess celestia or luna or twilight sparkle or pinkie pie or zecora or etc.

    Love and tolerate
