so i am wondering if you guys could help me find a different translation of the tao te ching. I usually read john c h wu's translation. but i am getting tired of that one. was wondering if anyone could recommend a philosophical translation. i really want to stay away from the religious translations.
Thanks

So thought i would revisit this with some new blood. As you know i consider rafiki to be enlightened. well in watching my little pony i see zecora as a parallel character. Also ed from lion king has a crazy wisdom spark in him. As well as pinkie pie. And i see twilight as a student.
Thoughts?

So yeah i was at my anime club around a month ago and one of the members has a 4 year old daughter well she brought her daughter along and we watched an episode of my little pony friendship is magic. I liked it so i looked it up on youtube and saw the first 2 eps. They were really good. It was basically a heros journey. I highly recomend this series.

fujiwara no sai from hikaru no go and the other "yami" yugi from yugioh who would win in a game of go?
These are the very important questions in life people meditate on them. lol

vmarco what about the fact that alot of the tibetan buddhist meditations are only for initiated monks and nuns and lamas etc?
If they really are the key to achieving liberation should they not be free?

One day there was an earthquake that shook the entire Zen temple. Parts of it even collapsed. Many of the monks were terrified. When the earthquake stopped the teacher said, "Now you have had the opportunity to see how a Zen man behaves in a crisis situation. You may have noticed that I did not panic. I was quite aware of what was happening and what to do. I led you all to the kitchen, the strongest part of the temple. It was a good decision, because you see we have all survived without any injuries. However, despite my self-control and composure, I did feel a little bit tense - which you may have deduced from the fact that I drank a large glass of water, something I never do under ordinary circumstances."
One of the monks smiled, but didn't say anything.
"What are you laughing at?" asked the teacher.
"That wasn't water," the monk replied, "it was a large glass of soy sauce."

Tao Te Ching is a Chinese philosophical work, compiled between the sixth and fourth centuries BCE. The author is unknown, but it is popularly ascribed to 老子 Lao Tzu.
Its 81 chapters are short, and are written in an aphoristic style (eg: "those who think they know never learn"), and attempt to describe the 道 Tao ("the Way") and the virtues of wisdom.
As a religious work, it has six advantages:
1. It doesn't mention God.
2. It's short.
3. You don't get Taoists ringing your doorbell while you're still in bed to lecture you about it.
4. Taoists don't insist that schools should incorporate Taoist rituals in the classroom.
5. People don't wear little gold figures of a man being tortured to death as Taoist jewelry.
6. Taoists don't picket veteran's funerals with signs that say "Tao Hates Fags!"
It does have some disadvantages:
1. It is confusing.
2. It is esoteric, especially for people who are not familiar with Chinese mythology.
[edit] Themes
Many esoteric themes pervade the Tao Te Ching. One of these themes is the benefit of nothingness, stillness, or emptiness. An example of this is that the true usefulness of a jar is the empty volume inside the jar. Another is that everything depends on its opposite to exist as a concept. For example, the term "light" has no meaning without the existence of the term "dark".
[edit] Philosophical or Religious?
Purely philosophical taoism is called 道家 daojia and treats the Tao Te Ching as a guide to help one's actions conform with the way of nature. Religious taoism is called 道教 daojiao and is focused on extending human life and avoiding evil spirits. It should be noted that many Asian cultures do not make a distinction between religion and philosophy.

River song ftw

in a word no. in a longer explanation if you want to stay fit and extend this precious life you have then kung fu qigong etc are the way to go but so is playing baseball. you still get your exercise. but this energy stuff is like frosting you can eat it or scrap it off. i know i am in the minority here with my views but they are just my views i could be perfectly sane for all i know. lol

So um as one does his or her spiritual practice one changes and so does the world. I was wondering what was the best meditation to change the world, like getting ride of all the injustices in the world and such?
Thanks

yes i believe in reincarnation. i dont have memories but i have habbits that are lion like and i believe i was a lion in my previous life. life for instance i sleep like 12 plus hours a day.
Its funny you say that it happened to you when you were 22 well i am 22 atm so your story resonated with me.
Thanks

short answer yes i do.
longer answer no i do not because spiritual stuff is spiritual stuff labels just define it dont label and you will be better off zazen or qigong both can work with internal energies both are meditation.
