  1. Mastodon's awesome, but I can't really get into their new album. Just not my style I guess. I really liked Blood Mountain.

    I'm just the opposite, I couldn't listen to their last one all the way through without having to stop listening or getting a headache. Except for a couple of weak spots this album is a masterpiece, intricate, heavy, and loud.

  2.

    If you are interested in the meditation side, Bruce's two meditation books are great. The best thing I have found for me was getting a very smooth, even, long, relaxed breath really just lets everything fall into place (mentally physically,etc). This in turn is a great place to start the meditation stuff as it would give me a home base so to speak when things would get rough.

    I had BKF's "Longevity Breathing" DVD for some time. The practice contained on that DVD is the best breathing practice and in the top 5 meditative techniques I have encountered. Highly recommended. I need to purchase it again. The practice of this method yields a calm state from which any other practice/meditation can flow. It is a wholly different product from his two CD product. Get the DVD.

  3. here:

    x = y-(0.38196601*(y-(0.61803399*y)))

    x= y-(.381*(y-.618y)) -->subtract (1-.618)

    x= y-(.381*(.381y)) --> multiply .38196601 * .38196601 = .145898032

    x= y-.145y --> subtract 1-.145 = .85410196

    x= .845y

    y=x/.85410196

    substitute values for x to solve for y.

    Why learn from his teachers when they've given him the okay to teach the techniques himself? :blink: You won't be able to anyways, especially the Maoshan stuff.

    By the way, it's rude to contact them and ask about Max. People here have done that in the past, and it's really not cool.

    ....Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain...

    geez man you sound like your brainwashed already. many spiritual aspirants, particularly Buddhists trace their spiritual lineage as far back as written history will allow, this includes tracing it from Buddha down and from their teachers up. shouldn't a legitimate path hold up under the light? what has anyone got to be afraid of?

  5. Get a business degree. In all likely hood you will have to start you own office and it will be essential that you understand how to run your business properly. If you plan on being successful you need to have a business that will provide for itself and for you. You will be able to provide higher level of service at your office when you are able to live more comfortably when you are away from your office.

    Minor in communications so that you can learn to sell yourself and your service to others. You will need repeat business, the best way to do that is to communicate that you care about and want to help your clients. They need to know that, once they do and once you back that up with results they will send their friends and loved ones to you.

    You can pick up all the other stuff along the way.

    Good luck and don't believe the hype, its a hard way to make a living doing accupuncture until you get a solid client base and that can take years of hard work and low pay (in addition to the schooling).

  6. While its interesting to listen to this...it could all be complete b.s. the narrator sits there and spews facts without any sources. Anybody look up that IRS document he talks about? Its over 600 pages, he could have the courtesy to give us a section or even page number.

    He is taking some truth, some theory, and a lot of unsubstantiated thinking and rolling it into a film for the uncritical thinker. If he really had something to say he could get to the point, cite his references and not spend 2 hours wasting our time. While the narrator is a skilled rhetorician, his logic seems faulty.

    I'll post another comment or edit this one when I finish it.

  7. one heel was just an idea to see how it works for you, i have no idea what to expect, except that you got what you expected

    the path is a subjective experience, and should be respected as such. i hope that everyone has as much success with their path as they put into it and if you get more than that then hallelujah, you have found the path that works for you. there is almost no absolute truth. experience is the ultimate teacher. do what makes you happy and fuck everyone else. if you tried kunlun with one heel then you are still on the search for something that you will not find, ie: proof. its all subjective. develop your own gongfu and leave everyone else to their own (subjective) happiness.

  8. It is easy to quote aphorisms and point fingers. Experience is subjective. Appreciate others experience as your own and may be able to understand where others come from.

    Kunlun is great, if you believe the same then go with it. I wish you the best. In the end I believe that devotion is the key. Devotion to an ideal, a practice, a system, a God, a saint, a savior. That is the key. Surrender. That is one of the keys to progress in kunlun. Surrender/acceptance...make it your gongfu. Much more difficult to digest than cotton candy.

  9. Those who wish to be

    Must put aside the alienation,

    Get on with the fascination,

    The real relation,

    The underlying theme

    -Rush

    Get off the sideline get into the practice. Its easy to criticize and snipe from the outside, but to devote yourself to the practice is what is required. True gong fu. Bhakti yoga. Therein lies your answer.

    Don't give up your insecurity or your questions, but go with your heart, your feeling. When you doubt your practice stick with it for a while, don't give it up. When you are confident your practice is right stick with it a while and see how long you feel that way. My experience is that practice is like life, you never know if your are on the right path until you have taken a few steps, and those can be some damn frightening steps to take and the ones ahead are not much clearer than the ones behind were. Make your practice your life and stick with it for as long as you live, become your practice and let your practice become your life. (Get on with the fascination)

    I've tried kunlun, seminar and all, and have chosen to pursue a different path. Its all good. Kunlun may be different (perhaps even "better"), but the ideal practice the one that best becomes part of your life, part of your identity, not the one that is flawless or the one that seems perfect from the outside (cult anyone?).

    In the end it is purely subjective, only your own experience can dictate what is acceptable for you. Let not your intellect (or wikipedia) reign, but let your heart guide your way.

    Another Rush lyric:

    A planet of play things

    We dance on the strings

    Of powers we cannot perceive

    'The stars aren't aligned

    Or the gods are malign...'

    Blame is better to give than receive

    Its easy to point the finger...

  10. I've been the most successful with retention when I had something to distract me from thoughts of sex. Staying away from porn is key number one. Having something to do besides surf the internet is important. Try learning a musical instrument, practice an hour or more a day, pour yourself into it. Start going for long walks. Learn to paint. Get out of the house, get out of your head, and use your energy in some productive way. I've found that if I don't find a good outlet for my increased energy then it will find one of its own in the form of ejaculation, anger, nocturnal emissions, etc.

  11. a bit painfull for my sholder

    I was getting that pain too, but since the seminar the movement/energy takes over more of my body, so my shoulder does not bother much anymore.

    As far as being freaked out goes, I thought several times about not going to the seminar, because I can't afford to have a month long episode of weirdness, but things went fine and I seem (at least to myself) perfectly sane.

  12. Question for Turbo:

    Unlike me, you were able to figure out and activate the Kunlun energy just by reading the book. You mentioned that by taking the class that the quality of the Kunlun energy changed. Could you say any more on that?

    Yoda

    Yoda,

    After reading the book and practicing a few times, I started to get some results which grew with each practice session. Eventually these sessions involved such vigorous and sometimes violent movement that I dubbed Kunlun the "heavy metal" of cultivation, and was kinda freaked out about practicing it. At the seminar Max adjusted my energy during one of my violent outbursts and told me that was "where" I should be. So now when the movement gets too strong, I remember to smile a deep smile and things calm down and become very peaceful.

    It seems like the heavy movement happens when I forget to smile this deep smile. When I remember, the movements generally settle down. The quality of this energy is very harmonious and peaceful. However, I reserve the right to comment again when I get a better handle on it.

    On the seminar in general:

    This was the best qigong/meditation seminar that I have ever been to. I have taken a number of classes, lessons, personal instruction, and retreats. The seminar was fun, well taught, covered just enough information to keep it straight but not so much you get confused. The energy was great and the instruction provided an excellent initiation into the practice of Kunlun and the other practices described above.

    Max was great, but he does not really know how speak well to a group. Some the ideas he was trying to communicate did not come across as well as I thought they could have. This is a minor point as the reason for the class is to learn the practice, not to listen to Max speak about concepts and ideas. That is one thing that I really like about Kunlun - it is dogma free, besides practicing sober, there are no ideas about philosophy or morality or anything else. Like he says try it and find out, be your own master.

  13. I'll be staying Friday at the Courtyard Mesa if anyone wants to car pool there.

    Michael

    My plane arrives around 6:30 and I'm planning to catch a cab to the metaphysical bookstore. I too am staying at the Courtyard Mesa and would appreciate a ride there, if you have room. I'll be up for whatever after the talk Friday, just not too late.

    Looking forward to it!

  14. A former roommate of mine was into this stuff. Last I talked to him he had done everything except the head training. After every part of the body is complete the "energy training" begins. Its some pretty intense stuff. He balanced it with 2 hours of Vipassana meditation daily.

    He always had stories about strange things and weird people who were involved in the training. He dated a girl from his class and they would get into monster fights, but calm down after a while and blame it on all the "cleansing of the meridianss" they were going through.

    In any case you could punch him or her in the belly and your fist would bounce off. They said it was their "chi firing". They had a bunch of tricks like that to demonstrate their chi. Cool stuff.
