1. Farooq,

Thanks for checking in, good to hear from you!

That confirms my suspicion about advaita... it would obliterate taobums if people *actually* followed it!

Are you doing ayam or a custom mantra with ayp protocol? (Tries to pull Farooq back to site.)

    Your pal,

    Yoda

    Hi Yoda,

Its always a pleasure to chat here,

you hit the nail on the head about nondual cultivation, Once i felt it, I lost my desire to search for anything outside of my self anymore.

I am is a great starter for me, and I also use AL Lah quite a bit - Allah is heavier though, so I recommend Iam for anyone in the beginning stages. As I go deeper during meditation, the sound of the silence/stillness allows me to drop what ever mantra I'm doing and i just..... be

How is your cultivation comming along? ( trying to politely carry on the banter;0)

    Cheers,

    Farooq

  2. Man, that's so weird. I was just thinking about you a couple of days ago and wondering where you'd got to. I was delivering something to an Islamic Centre and they had this amazing photo of everyone walking round the big black thing. (Sorry - I'm so ignorant, but you know what I mean, I hope.) And I remembered your report of doing the same. Nice to hear from you again.

And yes, I love Tolle. People often think he's "not enough" somehow, which illustrates his point beautifully.

    All the best,

    Ian

    Hi Ian,

Thats pretty cool that seeing the Kabaa reminded you of my experience at the Hajj.

I guess this really means that us taobums are really connected :D

All the best to you and yours Ian,

    Farooq

Any more details about the online classes?

    Hi Mal,

The online class is free at oprah.com

They have a class every monday at 8 pm central, and if you miss it live you can download it later.

Basically you don't really need the class if you read any of his books, and sit everyday in stillness.

I like the class because its nice to groove in real time with Tolle's vibe.

    peace and smiles

  3. I've heard over a million people are signed up and it's hard on the servers!! Let me know what you think and where to sign up.

    Hi Yoda and everyone!

I hope every one is well.

It has been a long time since i was on this board.

Wow things look really nice here..... way to go Sean!

I had been meaning for so long to come on here and thank thelearner, Michael for steering me to check out Echart Tolle.

I try to minimize my surfing on the net nowadays, but when I heard about the Tolle/Oprah event, I logged on and afterwards, I decided that a post here was long overdue.

My reduced net surfing coincided with my reading of the power of now and a new earth. After reading Tolle, I felt much better. I found what i was looking for.

Now, It is really neat to see his stuff getting so mainstream. Hats off to Oprah for that.

So again thank you so much Michael, you helped me transform from a seeker to a finder. Blessing to you and yours.

btw Yoda, I also am still into Yogani's teaching as well. I hope all is well with you and your family.

    Peace and smiles to all.

    Farooq

  4. Hi

This is one of my actual new years resolutions:

Letting go of addictive net forum participation.

(Another one is quitting tobacco and coffee, but that's harder)

So bye bye, and thank your for years of very interesting and not-so-interesting discussions from all you cyber taoists.

I'm returning into the northern darkness....

    Ha det bra.

    10096

Wow! You will be sorely missed Hagar.

I for one, greatly appreciated your insight and wisdom.

    All the best my friend

    Farooq

  5. be sure to balance it out with some serious chill-out

i had a yoga teacher say that there are only about a dozen people in the US that actually need power yoga and everyone else is burning themselves up

its my understanding that bikram is considered a form of power yoga

    good luck,

    t

    Hi turbo,

After doing a class, i feel for the rest of the day surprisingly 'cool'

I mean in the class we are literally cooking from the heat and exertion, but afterwards... espeacially if i have stayed in the corpse pose for a good 5 minutes+ after the class...... later on i feel very temperate - not too hot nor cold.

On a different note, more girls attend than guys. And the girls are definitely more flexible than us ;)

  6. That's awesome farooq! I've never done Bikram. I used to get this little bedroom I lived in cookin' with a thermostat and a few space heaters and do some ashtanga though. Very fun.  If you're into Sonnon and crew, here are a few good threads pertaining to Bikram I enjoyed: 1 2 3 4

    Yay!  :)

    Sean

    9452

    Thanks Sean,

This Coach Sonnon is a really cool guy to be so open to learn from so many different paths.

    Very interesting threads

I totally agree that the corpse pose between the floor poses is crucial to 'digest' what gets brought up from this activity.

At the very end of the 90 minutes, we are encouraged to just stay in the corpse pose for as long as we want and do nothing - very wu wei :)

So far i've gone to 6 classes, and i hope do do alot more cuz i really feel its opening me up big time

  7. Hi Cameron,

Good to see that you got through the surgery alright.

I was reading about this Bikram yoga founder and he busted his knee when he was young.

His Guru healed him, but Bikram regards the knees so highly now that he says you can mess with Shiva and Kali but not with your knees :)

As I mentioned earlier, try to keep your palms on the area affected for as long and as freqently as you can.

There is great healing energy in your palms.

  8. Well as Yoda knows, i'm really into the AYP stuff, so i thought i would check out my local yoga school

Welll let me tell you i stumbled into a 90 minute torture chamber :o

I always thought yoga was a soft relaxing activity, but not Bikram yoga.

This guy Bikram Chaudry came to hollywood and created a yoga system where you are 'locked' into a room at 42 celsius or 105 degrees for an hour and a half of really tough almost impossible asanas or postures.

A lot of big name entertainers swear by his yoga, and he has gone on to make millions by franchising his schools all over the world. His website says there are something like 3million students. I saw a clip of him teaching a class with just a speedo and a jewel encrusted rolex watch. (move over Mantak :P

I have to admit that i am really getting into it. The postures are really complimentary to all my chikung and ayp practices. All my channels are really opening up as a result plus i'm losing a lot of fat around my belly :D

  9. We don't teach teenagers about this for national sexurity purposes.

    -Yoda

    9165

    That is sooo funny :)

Well i'm glad that you are liking that novel. I also wonder how autobiographical the story is?

As Wilder goes deeper you find just how far he goes off the charts to what society assumes is'normal' If Yogani can only do half of what Wilder does in the book, the man is advanced indeed.

btw, Yoda did you get the reply to the pm you sent me a while back? How would i know without having to ask?

  10. Was in chat for a bit tonight and was asked to post the links as others might find them interesting or useful:

    Glenn Morris' Site:

    http://www.wholisticarts.org/morris.html

Susan Carlson's Kundalini Support Network (KSN) site:

    http://www.kundalinisupportnetwork.com/

If you are into martial (I am not) you will probably enjoy Glenn's books, seminars, etc.

If you are drawn to the spiritual path minus the martial aspect then Susan's KSN seminars might resonate with you.

Both are very familiar with and teach Taoist methods and are modern Kundalini Masters.

    Hi Matthew,

I would like to add the following link:

    http://www.fire-serpent.com/

Angelique is right up there in my book :)

Her BDSM stuff is used as a screen to filter out people who are too polarized.

In meeting her, i found a wise, kind, funny and enlightened soul.

  11. I don't support Nazis, but I'm going to post a link to a document written by one, along with a comment by one of my anti-Semitic friends, because he is "in the know." Oh and by the way I can't spell Israel, and I don't know my history, either.  :P

    Ouch

    :)

  12. So i polished off the 'secrets of wilder"

    very sweet sweet read ^_^

He has illustrated what i came to realize too: these practices we do are tools that not only benefit us physically and mentally, but ultimately take us up to the pinacle of spirituality.

The ultimate end of all the really beneficial techniques and exercises allows us to meet our Creator, with no intermeadiary or ambiguity, nor leap of faith. the reality of it becomes all encompassing.

I am in awe of Yogani's knowledge and ability to convey what are very very powerful tools to spark the deep transformative changes of any one who has the desire to be all they really are :)

  13. This Kechari stuff reminds me of a HP Lovecraft story:

    http://www.dagonbytes.com/thelibrary/lovec.../frombeyond.htm

The movie though is VERY over the top - not for everyone believe me

In HT i learned about putting the tip of the tongue below the bottom teeth and body of the tongue on the upper pallete to activate the cranial pump.

or putting the tip on the hard pallete (fire point)to facilitate the MC. Putting the tongue on the soft pallete was called the 'water point'

After all these years my tongue seems to always be on the roof of my mouth - so i thought taking it further back would not be a problem.... well i can just barely get to the base of the uvula... which has resulted in a definite increase in the flow of my MC. When my tongue is in that position i'm feeling a strong connection between my eyebrow point and the sperm palace. I must admit it feels pretty fine :)

Now this may sound strange but after a while i felt compelled to see if my tongue could go further iif i was standing on my head

no such luck as far as i could tell.... but my head did get gorged with energy and blood. I'm reminded about how India's old PM Nehru, said that he would stay in a headstand for like a half hour each morning :o

btw in one of Pakistan's large cities called Fasialabad, they have a very famous street called .....Kechari Road

  14. Know about the time when there were souls and no bodies.

This was a time of a few years, but each of those years was one of our millennia.

The souls were all arrayed in line.

The world was presented to their sight. Nine out of ten of the souls ran towards it.

Then paradise was presented to the remaining souls. Out of these, nine out of ten ran towards it.

Then hell was shown to the remaining souls. Nine out of ten of them ran away from it in horror.

Then there were only a few souls, those who were affected by nothing at all.

They had not been attracted by the earth or by paradise, nor had they feared hell.

The Celestial Voice spoke to these survivors, saying: 'Idiot souls, what is it that you want?'

The souls answered in unison: 'You who know all know that it is You whom we desire, and that we do not desire to leave Your Presence.'

The voice said to them: 'Desire of Us is perilous, causes hardship and innumerable perils.' The souls answered him: 'We will gladly experience anything for the sake of being with You, and lose everything in order that we may gain every- thing.' - Ilahi-Nama (Shah 74) ^_^

  15. Move to Japan and you will get to squat much more than you would otherwise. It took me a while to figure out how to use those toilets.

    Yup,

  16. Winning the rat race.  Hmmn, my families success was in finding value in other peoples garbage.

My grandfather, a russian immigrant in the 20's, found corrugated boxes, would tie them up and resell them.  He started out in alleys, finding them, tying them up w/ twine and reselling them to stores.  Later he found companies that would throw them out.

Ultimately he rented the first floor of a warehouse, he'd send a small pick up truck around to local factories to pick up the boxes they'd emptied.  As time went on he bought bigger trucks, hired people to sort the good  from the bad and reselling them.  The boxes weren't new or perfect, but held what you needed and shipped the same.

As decades went on, he rented the whole building, and ultimately bought the three story warehouse in the 50's.  Thus my grandfather coming to the U.S. w/ no language or money become a successful business man in the tiny nitch industry of selling used boxes.  After a succession of heart attacks, my dad who had worked at the business since high school took over.

My dad was a master sales person, finding sources for boxes, offering more then scrap rates and finding newer larger corporate sources to sell to.  Instead of wrapping boxes in 25's w/ twine, he introduced pallets and banding wire selling them by 225's.  He found new markets in obsolete boxes that were misprints that companies would otherwise throw out.

How good a sales person was he?  He once flew from Chicago to Florida and met without an appointment buyers from a Dollar Store corporation and sold them trailor loads of boxes.  Right on the spot.  What made him more successful then his dad was his ability to find really Big clients and find ways to get more cheap boxes.  Essentially we would buy used boxes by the ton, sell them by the box.

After his two heart attacks I took over the business.  My dad is thankfully still around, happily retired(though currently evacuated) in florida.

I computerized the business, didn't really expand it much.  We had 12 to 14 employees.  Like my parents I did everything, buying, selling, managing.  Selling would still mean, walking the beat.  Going to Industrial parks, walking miles through them, passing out business cards and fliers, calling them back later to solicit orders.  Finding sources was similar.  No particular magic, just walking and phoning, hours each day.  Dealing w/ dozens of no's for every yes.

As management you dealt w/ everything from equiptment failure to employee conflicts, problems with each other, there families etc.  There were dozens of govenrment taxes and insurance needs etc. eating up lots of time.

Ya da yada.  Last year, I sold the business to a competitor, sold the building to a developer.  The time was right, the offers were good.  I've been playing house husband to the 3 kids this year.  My wife works 3 days a week.

I'm happy, but I'll need to find some challenges.

short answer to leaving the rat race:

Own a business where you can find value in other peoples garbage(very taoish).  Find the Big customers.  Live well but cheaply.

Best business advice, The best business deal is not the one that gets you the most.  Its the one where both parties leave happy.  Thats the way to long term deals and relationships.

Best Sales advice.  Candy, keep halloween type candy in your pockets.  Hand it out liberally to secretaries as well as decision makers.  Accepting food has much deeper connotations then you might assume.    Decision makers will buy from friends all things being equal or slightly inequal, be friendly.

Best Management, be lavish w/ the little things, buying lunches, snacks, extra time off, while keeping the big things (salary & benefits) under control.  No one will ever think they are being paid enough, but they will remember the lunches provided, free small loans, ability to come and leave early when needed.

There are some real gems of business advice in the above.

    Awesome

    Be Lost in the Call

Lord, said David, since you do not need us,

why did you create these two worlds?

Reality replied: O prisoner of time,

I was a secret treasure of kindness and generosity,

and I wished this treasure to be known,

    so I created a mirror: its shining face, the heart;

    its darkened back, the world;

The back would please you if you've never seen the face.

Has anyone ever produced a mirror out of mud and straw?

Yet clean away the mud and straw,

and a mirror might be revealed.

Until the juice ferments a while in the cask,

it isn't wine. If you wish your heart to be bright,

you must do a little work.

My King addressed the soul of my flesh:

You return just as you left.

Where are the traces of my gifts?

We know that alchemy transforms copper into gold.

This Sun doesn't want a crown or robe from God's grace.

He is a hat to a hundred bald men,

a covering for ten who were naked.

Jesus sat humbly on the back of an ass, my child!

How could a zephyr ride an ass?

Spirit, find your way, in seeking lowness like a stream.

Reason, tread the path of selflessness into eternity.

Remember God so much that you are forgotten.

    Let the caller and the called disappear;

    be lost in the Call.

  19. I think the substance of the post has merit though.

    8206

    Yup, I agree.

My experience after 18 odd years of retaining off and on is that you got to Really not desire ejaculation on All levels of your self.

Once you reach that stage you can have as much sex as you and or your partner could want and retention is effortless.

Ejaculation was the ever present, irresistible Siren for me up until i found the Siren that was even more irresistible..... nonduality

When i retained, i found i could go deeper and deeper into nonduality

In that state the bliss is way more deeper, longer lasting and satisfying than ejaculation- and that made it sooo much easier to retain. The pleasure of ejaculation became an easy sacrifice to make to achieve that deep state instead.

The other thing that happened over time was that during sex i got more in tune with my prostate (no i don't use an aneros, just my mind :P ). It's fluttering that i would feel during sex resulted in 'dry' contractions that felt really good. This feeling also helped to lessen my natural desire to ejaculate.

Thanks Spyrelx for sharing your story, it reminded me of my many releases over the years :D

  20. Read something interesting in Advanced Yoga Practices...

Meditating without pranayama is like planting a seed without plowing.

Pranayama without meditation is like plowing without planting.

Per AYP, it's okay to meditate as a stand alone practice.  Results are more gradual.

But Pranayama, yoga, energy practices etc without meditation create a more powerful nervous system, but no bliss and peace for direction and ballast.  So you can get into emotional problems, glitchiness, bad luck etc.

That really hit the nail on the head for me.  For the past 2 years since starting chikung, all the high energy practices that I've done esp. standing, retention, and sungazing I love the huge energy levels they confer but I *constantly* suffer from emotional system crashes and then have to back off the particular energy practice.

Since I quit Buddhism, I quit sitting meditation and I think that I threw out the baby with the bath water.

I think I need to get back into sitting.

    -Yoda

    8296

    Hi Yoda,

I too love spending time at AYP.

I hope to spend more time after i get caught up with my office work <_<

That line: 'The Guru is in you' says it all. :)

Things got a lot more easier for me when i realized that the energy work that required physical movement were yang and energy work that required no movement was yin.

And like everything else, balance of yin and yang is the key to fruitful progress.

  21. On Inner Smile.

    Notice - Inner smile.

This is not the social outward smile.

Just as in healing sounds, the sound is inward - Sublingual.

In a way the inner smile is also not an outward expression.  More of a feeling tone.

    it is NOT excess Joy.

In fact this goes back to a split in philosophy between camps in taoism.

One camp says "do not manipulate  chi"

Another says "Consciously working with your energy has it's place"

This is the camp which HT practice (among many others) falls into.

... you seem to fall into the latter which equates inner smile with the tendency to bring forward heart energy emotion in an excessive way.

Who was it who said "the technique of no technique is still a technique."

It is too easy to say that one can just fall into a state of grace because you are open to it.  Is it possible to become a master of anything without learning and applying principles and techniques?

Inner smile is a simple technique which serves several purposes.

IN my view the primary one is to start the process of going inside, which is important for modern people who tend to be mostly externally oriented and disconnected from their body.  The inner smile process is a way of exploring yourself physically.  It is a way of connecting with external chi, according to my interpretation of Chia's approach it brings in Cosmic chi energy which is one of the 3 external forces, Earth Chi, Cosmic Chi (or human plane chi) and Heavenly Chi.

So you are connecting to external "cosmic chi" and you are bringing your consciousness into your body.  Also you are doing a practice which is almost the same as Progressive relaxation by bringing the golden light chi into the body step by step system by system, organ by organ.  It is a deep exploration into body consciousness and relaxation.  You are also WIRING the body/mind to accomplish a deep state of relaxation and openess which is necessary to do other work, Neidangung or Chigung.  Many masters speak of entering into the ChiKung state before starting your practice.  The inner smile process enables you to practice entering into this deep state, step by step and to wire it so that you can move more quickly to that state with practice to where it becomes almost immediate.

It is a Technique.  So if you are opposed to any such there would be no traction to get you to go along with my statements.  But as a technique, and viewed in a way to understand what the goals of the technique are, it is in my opinion a very good technique.

Finally to reiterate, it is not done externally, it is done softly and lightly with the slightest lifting of the corners of the eyes and the mouth.  If it is forced and external then it is LIKELY that it will feel like excess, excess Joy, overheating the heart, etc.

    Smiles to you.

    Hi Everyone,

When I do the inner smile deeply, i feel duality slipping away.

The inner smile for me is like what is meant to feel unconditional love for anything and everything.

The process results in great healing - physically, mentally and spiritually

    :)
