You see everyone, this is a classic example of immature understanding. Fa Xin are right, the Dao does not exclude things, it cannot not. But we as people following the Dao need to be discerning when trying to follow the Dao. So, yes, I exclude things, so I live more like water, to live closer to the Dao. That is the point of "practice". We are not the Dao, we are one of the 10,000 things. Lao Tzu tells us what to exclude, maybe you can see it here:
-
Only stupid people live in houses with bad foundations. And only crack heads live in crack houses.
-
We come here to practice, learn, about the Dao. This is a Dao forum. There are no different "Dao Schools", only the Dao. If someone comes here talking about how they can push someone over by throwing chi at them, they should be banned from the forum because it is a distraction from the Dao.
-
The Dao has no rules of conduct?
-
Is the house the same thing as the people who live in it?
-
School? What school? I follow the Dao. The people who make schools of the Dao divide it into just some more of the ten thousand things. And that is the issue, yes, the founding principles? If I came on to a house building forum and said I can build a house out of wind and clouds, or if I said hammers were the worst tool to secure nails, I would be either ridiculed until I left, learned, or the mods would ban me. Why? Because it leads people away from learning how to build a house and it is a distraction from the path. So, like a house built on a bad foundation, we start to see cracks. What is left but to replace the foundation?

Some people talk like idiots and they think they express the Dao. This is an example of a person I would moderate.
-
This is a Daoist forum, I am not here to discuss Qi.
-
If Qi has nothing to do with the Dao why are you here talking about it? But since you have no Qi to sell me, how about a hot cup of Dao?
-
"Can you make me a cup of Qi?" I replied because GSmaster missed the point.
-
How else can you describe the undescribable Dao other than with a metaphor? Qi is a metaphor. If it were not I could gather a cup of it and sell it to you. Note I did not say Qi does not exist.
-
Do you know what a metaphor is?

Thanks. If you want to get in the weeds regarding this, read about Inverted Totalitarianism. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inverted_totalitarianism

How long would you expect a rabbit to hang around a snake den? Take it up with the people who allow all the charlatans on the site.

Yes. I come and go here, just to check in. Seems it is the same or worse. This is happening across the whole of internet however. Moderators only moderate "bad behavior" and they should be acting more like editors of newspapers, editing for content. That only scares people who think they know it all. The view here, and in Zen circles for that matter, is sort of "everyone is right". I see people say here that Daosim is anything you want it to be! Ha! No one here has any authority to correct them, and so it goes. No zendo survives without a zen master. And no Dao forum can survive without following the Dao. If this were a furniture building forum we would be able to see the master craftsman very easily, but with these matters, with all of us hiding behind fake names, it is very hard to find a true master. I suggest you all walk around your neighborhood and see if the common people on the street see that you carry the triple gems without speaking a word of the Dao. There you will find your answer.

Micheal Winn: Make More Money through Qigong! A discerning person would see him for what he is, but I guess that is why we share with others, so we can see if we are deluded. On to Five Animals; why are you thinking so much? It is called Five Animals Frolic, so just play. You think the five animals you have chosen are universal to all sects? You are wrong. -
Losing "the drive" seems like a death sentence, but that is just a cultural story, not the Dao. At first people told me I suffered from depression, but really everyone else is manic, so comparatively I was depressed. Food, shelter, some clothing, people; that is all I care about. I watch TV, go for walks around my town, use the internet, all fluff that I enjoy. There are so many on this forum searching with such drive and making this so complex, so I am glad to come back and read this here.

How should I deal with political discussion? (Daoist perspective)
Song of the Dao replied to Will's topic in Daoist Discussion
Are people just making up Daoism here? The point of it is to get over your conditioning and get to the source, which is the Dao. Water is not passive, it is Wu Wei, acting without acting. -

Water does not think. That is the distinction. It is a physical body reaction to not want to be a slave or kidnapped. No need to think about it. Yes, water does not think where it wants to go, it goes where the topography dictates. -

I will only ask, what kind of Democracy? Democratic Republic? Socialist Democracy? Direct Democracy? Is Democracy itself even a thing we should be fighting to keep? The Dao does not ask for your vote and yet it is not cruel or kind; you are all straw dogs. It is the kindest authoritarian expressing a love difficult to understand. Water flows based on the topography, that is why I let others vote, and I flow over that topography. I follow Heaven and I have no worries, no stress. -

Jail! That would be wonderful! Two hots and a cot! Nothing to worry about! (I wonder what would have happened to the civil rights movement if people worried about going to jail...) Your understanding of Anarchism is based on propaganda and is superficial. Read this and come back with a new thread: https://theanarchistlibrary.org/library/the-anarchist-faq-editorial-collective-an-anarchist-faq-02-17 Oh, and just to get to know me more, I have a BA in American History. Really, I do. -

Maybe I do not care about "the democratic systems". -

You think I am part of the problem only because you think you are part of the solution. Did not not even read past chapter 2 of the DDC? And Lao Tzu never heard of Democracy, so while he had advice for politicians, his view on voting are at best only able to be assumed. I do not want to live in a democratic republic, I would rather be wild and free, maybe Libertarian Socialist. I guess I could have voted for one of the two capitalist war mongers in the last election. And as far as "caring" what kind of society I live in? Lao Tzu has more to say: Maybe you should put me in prison for not voting!
