    Hi Desmnoddf,

Chi is more naturally experienced by oneself experientially ~ by/with/through... one's body and mind.

Thus it can be different ~ to each his/her own perspective/practice/philosophy/reality...

    - Anand

    Yeeeeah... no.

I'm a TCM practioneer, and I can say that, what is DESCRIBED on the documents which DEFINE what Qi is (let's remember, "Qi" is a WORD, it has DEFINITIONS, not "feelings about what it is") describe it as having multiple kinds and being of different qualities.

If you take someone with Kidney Qi deficiency and try to use moxa on Heart 7 because "moxa increases the production of Qi", it will be useless.

The same things with other kinds. Xie Qi (infectious/toxic Qi) is VERY different from Heart Qi. Now, what will happen if you take someone with a bad cold and use TCM protocols to make the Xie Qi go deeper inside, because "it is all Qi"?

    You'll fack them up.

Now, going on the "feeling" approach. Xie Qi and Xin Qi, for instance. Is it all "Qi"? Then why making incorrect breathing exercises near a polluted swamp on a hot and humid day bad for you, while doing it in a clean environment and with the correct technique good?

    It's all "qi", isn't it?

    No, it's not.

My first exploration into the spiritual world was though the lens of fundamentalist Christianity. Needless to say Christianity in general and especially this type of it tends to have the view that they are right and everyone else is wrong, or even evil.

It came as a shock to me when I began to question and then doubt that fundamentalist Christianity was the one true religion after all. A few years later when I became interested in Buddhism one thing that I appreciated was that Buddhism was not exclusive and elitist like Christianity, or so I thought. As time went by and I began to read the suttas for myself I kept coming across passages where the Buddha supposedly said this is right view and if someone thinks differently it is wrong view and it will lead them to a bad rebirth or even hell. I had heard that line before and I wasn't amused. I would listen to Buddhist monks on YouTube speak about other spiritual traditions and generally why these other traditions were incorrect and why Buddhism was correct. Again after what I had been through with fundamentalist Christianity I wasn't very enthusiastic about this type of thinking.

Even on forums such as these it is often the case that a view differing from one's own view isn't seen as a different perspective, but rather as wrong. Granted I don't think every single thought, view, or utterance that is said is true, in fact sometimes I think things can be quite wrong, but that does not change the fact that very often things are not right or wrong, but merely a different way to explain the same idea.

The Buddha may not have spoken about channels or chakras, but that doe not mean that the practices the Buddha taught don't affect them. The Taoists might not have orinally spoken of karam, but they did speak of yin and yang transforming into each other and to me this symmetry of cause and effect sure sounds like karma if not in name, in action.

Why is it that differing view are seen so often as wrong rather than simply an alternative perspective about basically the same thing?

    Because they are views.

Building a "view" of the world requires for things to be right or wrong. Taking an approach of "this is a different view and equaly valid" doesn't build a view of the world - it makes one float randomically on a mental space of indecision and refusal to commit to analisys and deductions about the world around them.

Even worldviews based on this kind of mental act of "let's relativize every kind of analysis of the world" can't stand their own trial and end up having to say that relativization is the correct path - for instance, you're annoyed that people don't do it themselves.

Any kind of "view" of the world will intrinsecaly mean you're judging the world and assigning values to things - be it "right" or "wrong", or "kinda right", "kinda wrong", etc.

To go beyond that you'll need to stop judging, and that means stoping to have a certain "view" of the world. You'll have to enter a state of not having any kind of opinion or taking any kind of deduction about things around you. So if you see an apple falling from a tree, on such a state you do not deduce that other apples on the same tree will also fall to the ground.

It is both a state of bliss and a state of ignorance and uselesness.

Bliss if you use it to expand and fluidify your own mind, being able to enter and exit this state and learning how to enter and exit worldviews.

Uselessness if you can't return once you've reached that, as you'll basically become a 2 months old toddler after forgetting things like "if I push certain muscles I can roll on my back".

  3. Chi can be anything, as it is a widely-used term for a lot of different things. What you're talking about seem to be Ying Qi or Wei Qi. Since you posted videos with people using chi such as in NeiGong or QiGong, then it probably should be a mix of both.

However, it can also be understood as a concept, a basic universal principle, the ritmic movements of destiny, fundamental particles, etc.

Ancient philosophy doesn't correlate entirely with modern science. I'd say it almost has no correlation at all.

For instance, a simple migrane for an ortodox doctor can be a number of different pathologies for a TCM practioneer, while mostly all infectious diseases would be one or two for the same TCM practioneer.

It's a different look on reality. It cannot be conformed with the principles of categorization and understandment of the world modern science has.

I've come to realize that I react very adversely to meditation and some other cultivation methods. So much so that about half a year ago I had to abandon meditation. It would affect me very negatively emotionally.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

I've done qigong wrongly in the past and it facked up my energetic system. Luckly I've stopped before things get really serious.

Meditation is the same - if you do the practice wrongly, at beast nothing will happen, at worst you're going to screw your own head and emotions.

That said, it can also have really "problematic side-effects" if you do it right - after all, it is a practice meant for releasing oneself from mundanity and achieving new levels of consciousness. This will make you almost an "alien" to people and the world around you, destroy and rebuild your ego and psiche and rework your entire existence.

There's a reason why asian monks and priests meditate, but not common folk ;)

Effectively reaching new and new highs in meditation will make you go through your own "inner hell" and back multiple times. This process can lead to serious depression, awakening of psichosys if you're prone to it, development of mediunic skills, awakening of many kinds of spiritual inner tools and so on - things that a regular, uninstructed person will most likely be unable to use and shoot themselves at the foot with them.

So, yeah, spiritual practices can do a hell of a storm on your life. That's the basys of the saying "wisdom and insanity wake side by side". Inner experiences are powerful and may change you in ways you cannot imagine without them. So you must be very careful (and optimaly have a guru, master or other form of senior to guide you), or suffer the consequences.

I thought that was a relatively small part, if by this you refer to non-ejaculatory sexual practices.

And some say (if you refer to the process above), that pulling up sexualised jing to ones brain might induce problems in the long run.

But again, one persons powerful practice is another persons bloody stupid practice. 😁

Most in the sense of "most that deal with sexual alchemy". Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Bad news for you my dude: You share your energy with everything and everyone around you, all the time. If you try to retain all of it you'll end up with cancer.

Energy flows through everyone and everything all the time. It is the natural and healthy way. Indeed, some energies are NOT meant to remain inside of us. They are like shit or piss. They MUST be released (usually through shit and piss, btw).

It's funny that you used the word entangled, especially after the jada and will situation,  so some will get shared, so it's not far fetched to think, that a vibrating penis raging with jing is getting entangled with her as well. Hmm. Well I guess theres no way around it tbh.

There's very little Jing your penis. It gets released mostly during orgasm. Most taoist practices involve reverse ejaculation because of that. Some try to make the Jing "rise" to nourish the brain through reverse ejaculation.

It is through entanglement that you have exchange.

    Hello Desmonddf,

thank you for your reply :)

No, I'm not from Brazil, I am an European.

During the last days, I have eaten many warm meals with different kinds of meat, it was sometimes beef, sometimes pork and a bit of chicken and I have eaten less chocolate (I know, industrial sugar is bad, but sometimes in the evening, lying with my beloved wife in the living room and talking or reading, we love to eat some chocolate. So I won't let it completely, but I'll eat less of it).

Thing is, since eating more meat and less sugar, heartburn has gone completely. So I was curious and testes a glass of wine yesterday evening...and nothing happened. No pain, no heartburn, nothing at all.

I will watch it further, but I think, the problem has dissolved.

So thank you all very much for your very kind comments! Thank you very much.

    Best wishes

I saw you talking about caipirinha and thought you where brazilian. Sorry. Good to see you're doing well, that's great :)

  10. There are some TCM protocols that might work to improve your quality of life, but it will be quite difficult to find a practioneer with enough experience and open-mindness to try and purify your Pre-Heaven Jing (which is most probably the cause of the disease).

Simple things might help, though. Avoiding wind, having your primary meat source being chicken meat, drinking critic fruit's juice, those kinds of things.

    Hello everyone,

I never was the one who drank much alcohol. During the last 15 years I had only 3 or 4 times the year a drink, for example on a birthday.

And the more I practice the internal arts, the less alcohol I want to drink.

    And here comes the point.

Since a few months (I have increased my practice to 2 hours per day, sometimes 3) , I am not able to drink only a bit of alcohol at all. After a half glass of wine or bear my stomach is aching and it feels like the stomach crunches (hope that is the right word). I realized that two times this year, when I was at a birthday.

My teacher says it could be normal because the body becomes more sensible, but he is not sure that pain in stomach is normal when trying alcohol.

I'm complete healthy, only when trying a drink, this pain is coming.

Has anyone else practicing the arts, had similar experience?

Best wishes and sorry for my rather bad English.

Seems like a case of liver attacking the spleen.

Quite valid and not excludent. This can be both one of the reasons why you're having these problems or a consequence of having those problems.

For medicinal purposes it's a wonderful substance...when combined with herbs like Gou Qi Zi and Wu Wei Zi during the winter months to nourish the Kidney.

But you need to see a physician for this to determine whether you need it or not according to your constitution.

Until then stay way from it!

Indeed this could be one of the causes!

    Thank you Sea Turtle.

    Stomach fire is possible.

I drink no coffee at all because than I get reflux and a bit of heartburn and I don't like the taste of coffee.

So normally there are absolutely NO problems with my stomach. Only when trying alcohol or coffee. Wine and bear doesn't make difference. Same kind of pain.

And yes, I'm sweating quite easy when practicing kicks etc.

But no read face or very read tongue.

I was vegetarian for the last 5 years and began eating meat 6 months ago. But it makes no problem. I felt, that my body needed it, because it became to weak when I trained much. So, with meat it's much better. I can practice 2 or three hours the day and it makes me stronger.

So I think it's OK letting go of alcohol completely.

Because normally I am really healthy. No problems at all

Thank you very much for your helpful answer.

Quite probably liver yin deficiency, especially with the vegetarian diet.

Chicken meat can be very good for you, especially chicken liver.

    Hello again Feng69,

ok, so heartburn usually signifies stomach fire, so we would recommend to eat "cooling" foods.

Regarding meat (tonifies the qi, so yes, your perception is right), consider cooler methods of preparing the meat, like cooking, boiling or steaming, and sticking to cooler kinds, like chicken or other poultry.

Goat, lamb and venison is "hot", so not suitable for stomach fire, and every preparation with dry heat (baking/roasting, grilling, barbecueing or stirfrying is making food hotter, so get your meat in a nice chicken soup or  a stew or as a traditional Austrian Tafelspitz (steamed beef). In addition, try to balance meat with cooler foods (vegetables, steamed fruits etc.)

Consider replacing some of it with fish. Provides great protein, omega 3 fatty acids and rather strengthens the yin (also good for the sweating.

Red meat develops toxic metabolites in the large intestine, so should be reduced in the overall consumption. (bowel cancer risk)

    Klonk

    Sea Turtle

I'd say, since it is winter in the north hemisphere (and if he's from the northen part of the globe), maybe he should concede a bit on eating hot foods. Especially chicken brooth.

He could add some digestive spices in order to make it gentler in the stomach, for instance a little bit of cumin. It will be hot, but it won't be toxic.

    Thank you for your answer.

I looked at my family and many of them including myself had and still have heartburn when eating or drinking the "wrong" things.

And I tested other drinks with alcohol. The pain inside the stomach comes only when drinking red whine or cold beer (or sometimes black coffee).

When I drink for example a small glass of whiskey or a Caipirinha, there is no pain in the stomach.

And there are absolutely no other symptoms for lymphoma.

I think I'm healthy and have only some problems with to much acid in the stomach.

Thank you again for the answer. That was very kind.

And sorry for my bad English.

I will not put my penis inside a vagina until I get my answer, not even willow smith!! No weenie for the vageenie!

If you feel pressured to put your penis on someone's vagina, then the problem isn't the loss of Jing - is what the hell are people around doing to make you feel like you have to do it?

That's borderline sexual harassment. Consensuality exists for men as well. Do not follow what others want you to do just because they want you to do it, especially if what they want you to do is something that involves your penis.

No one. And I mean no one. Can tell you to have sex or not. You should feel like you want it, you should seek it, and your partner as well. Societal pressure isn't something acceptable and you can and should get away from people who try to force you into having sex.

By the way: If you're just scared of sex, then that's fine as well. Take your time and weight things on. I was a virgin until I was 21, and most of that was because of social avoidance. I've found my way and thankfully have good memories about my first time, in which I was confortable and happy with the situation.

And most of the times that came after that as well, even if one or two might have been bad experiences.

Just don't let your fear overpower you, if that's the reason you're avoiding the subject. Look at the fear and embrace it. Be afraid and allow yourself to understand your own feelings on the matter.

Sex is supposed to happen when and if you feel like it, and when and if you feel secure and have a firm enough heart to go through this experience. If this will even happen in this life or not, it doesn't really matter.

I have my own reasons why I dont want to be energetically tied in with another, yet I'm also aware of my natural instinct for sex with a woman as a man. I'm aware that sexual activity burns and depletes jing, but my own reasoning was that in moderation maybe it could work, but that's also dependent on the fact of what's transpiring energetically. Satisfying myself sexually, without tying my energy in or giving my own energy/jing away would be ideal for me, though, if I'm factoring in the sex itself, even if I somehow managed to prevent my energy from tying it or giving my essence away to someone else, I'd still be leaking that energy by the very act of sex itself. It would seem as though the only true path of keeping ones energy completely, without burning it up or getting tied in with another, is the path of celibacy. Which is fine for me. I'll wait for a high level practitioner to miraculously come across this thread and give me their invaluable insight though.

Celibacy has higher chances of burning through your Jing than a healthy sexual life. There is no such a thing as "never burning my Jing". It is burned for everything you do, even breathe and have a heartbeat. You cannot stop it from leaking, as loss of Jing is the manifestation of life itself. Stagnated Jing is merely death. It is the cessation of the Flow and the peak of the Yin - complete stillness, coldness and emptyness. Only by expending it can you live. The only thing you can do is to make it leak in the most efficient manner possible.

Hopefully someone on a high level, and I mean a really high level, with a fully open third eye and possibly even immortal, who's actually on a high enough level to confirm the exact reality of what is transpiring can give me the real answer some day. P.S. I have no interest in finding someone that confirms my bias, as bias and actuality dont go hand in hand and coincides with falsehood rather than reality. I'm very selfish with my penis and my sexual energy, until I have a true answer from a high level practitioner, or a method/technique that can possibly divert what I suspect, in which I can have sex without giving my own energy away and possibly even recirculating it to me, then I'm going to remain celibate. No weenie for vageenie. Thanks for the answer though 🍆🚫🚫🚫🚫🚫🚫

The higher you go, the less "real" and "objective" things become. I've come in contact with things such as the "incarnation of the natural laws of the universe", and playing with them allow you to perform acts that go against the natural laws.

If there are no natural laws, then there is no "reality" or "truth". There is no objectivity. There's only what consciousness creates.

So, if an immortal or highly attained guru where to respond your question, it would probably be a "maybe".

I have a question. When you cultivate and transmute jing into the lower Dantian, when you have sex, do women absorb the jing when you have sex and orgasm? And Is remaining celibate the only sure fire way to make sure you dont leak or drain your jing? I'd love a real answer from someone with real experienced knowledge

Everyone has their own jing, and both men and women lose theirs during sex. What happens is that the Jing is released into the uterus, both the one from man and woman, and then may be used to form a child (if the woman is on the right days of the cycle).

Women aren't sexual vampires of Jing (that's one thing confuncians have indeed perverted into daoism, and indeed is a patriarchal paranoia), but none of the partners will absorb it by themselves - it will be used to nurture and ignite the life of a future child, if there is one to come.

If not, it will deplete and go away naturaly - the same with sperm and vaginal fluids.

Now, techniques to make use of this Jing are plentifull - from the classical "take that creampie and make a snowball" (that is, eat the sperm and vaginal juices after the use) to the "do a very conscious and ritualistic sex in which both share and elevate one another's energy".

You can go with any of those you want, but it is mainly useless for the purpose of satisfying mundane wishes and desires - Jing isn't special because it is Jing (pos-heaven Jing is composed of the same level of purity as pre-heaven Jing) but because of where it is located - the deepest recesses of your Kidneys, where the Kidney Yin and Kidney Qi take root and the Yuan Qi is kept as a treasure.

That place is closed up once you're born and it cannot (or can it?) be opened after you're out of the womb (some would say even before).

So, no "getting younger by eating sperm" or "having sex with multiple men to get younger" - common fears of people who try to demonize daoism - or "having sex with young virgin girls to get younger" - common perversion amongst high class daoists of the past, which would try to "absorb the jing" of girls as young as 8 years old.

All of those were perversions brought forth by desire and greed for eternal life.

T.T. Liang once told Stuart Alve Olson that Confucians, Buddhists, and Taoists handle mosquitoes differently:

A Confucian would kill the mosquito because everything has its proper place and role in a hierarchy, and the mosquito has little significance to a man.

A Buddhist would allow the mosquito to take some blood because everything deserves to live equally.

A Taoist will move if the mosquito keeps following him because it means that that place is the mosquito's and he will find his own place away from the mosquito.

Liang said sometimes he will be one of the three when appropriate. In the case of mosquitoes, he makes no hesitation to take the Confucian approach as he is not ever going to be strictly one or the other.

I do like a certain story from a friend of mine. His master was doing zazen meditation with two others in front of their master. A scorpion crawled into the house. The three became afraid but tried at all costs not to do anything since they couldn't kill and certainly hadn't achieved the enlightened status buddha would have, which would make all animals love them and do them no harm.

The scorpion drew closer to them, and they simply couldn't meditate due to that. The master grabs a slipper and kills the scorpion, promptly disposing of its remains.

He them lectures then to return to their meditation. The lecture whent something like "you're worried because of karma? If you die now, not having meditated and done your practices, how much enlightenment will you forsake simply to avoid the karma of killing a scorpion?".

Somethimes it is a matter of being centered and grounded in reality. Are we really on the level of attainment where not killing the scorpion and potentialy being killed by it would make us go further on the Path than killing it and sitting down to meditate?

Or will we just squander that meditation opportunity in search of some level of great compassion we cannot achieve or even phantom yet?

Before trying to be a kung fu master, how about learning to clean the dojo first? Every person is at a certain step. Let's not be fanatical and lose sight of reality.

Desmonddf, thank you for your kind response. It makes sense and wonder where those concepts come from? It seems those concepts have been used by Daoists, Confucianists and others

Most come from the Warring Periods Era, mostly from the Hundred Schools of Thought, from the 6h century to around 200 BCE.

They are from a time when people tried to rationalize the mystical and turn what was oral knowledge, passed from master to disciple, into written knowledge.

They can be found in books such as the HuangDi NeiJing, which is the most known book about TCM.

The Ten Precepts of Initial Perfection (chuzhen shijie 初真十戒) parallel those found in the early eighth century Chuzhen shijie wen 初真十戒文 (Ten Precepts of Initial Perfection; DZ 180). The text is transmitted to ordinands of the first level of Quanzhen 全真 (Complete Perfection) and represents the school’s most fundamental guidelines and practical precepts. It also includes conduct guidelines for women entitled the Nüzhen jiujie 女真九戒 (Nine Precepts for FemalePerfected).

Things created 2000 years after LaoZi and people use the phrase "LaoZi said:". Something wrong ain't right.

  20. My knowledge isn't much profound, as it is based on TCM, but I shall help as best as I can.

"Souls" refeer to anything that constitutes our perceptions and "being". There are five basic souls, each taking root on a different organ of your body. If any of these organs gets affected, so gets the soul. If any of the souls get affected, so gets the organ.

The first soul to appear on a human and the only one that remains after death (proceeding to reincarnation) is the Ethereal Soul, Hun, located at the Liver.

It is basically "reflexes". It has to do with all kinds of reflex acts, that is, reacting to things. It is also responsible for keeping the harmony of all souls - making it so they react with the needed strenght to each stimuly, not less, not more.

After Hun, the other four Souls split from it and go to the organs.

The most subtle of them is Shen, many times understood as "spirit", and it goes to the Heart. It has to do with consciousness, notion of space, perceptivness of environment (internal and external) and "perceiving" in general.

The most dense of them is Zhi (some say not, see bellow for more details), many times understood as "Willpower", and it goes to the Kidneys. It has to do with raw, brute force and energy. The power to do things beyond what it is commonly your limits, and even surpassing them - usually at a heavy cost.

Zhi manifests itself as "Willpower" as it has close interaction with the Kidney's Yang - therefore easily stimulating it and generating the effects of what we see as "adrenaline release". It has a secondary effect on the Kidney's Yin, and with good training it can bring what we call "persistence".

The next most subtle soul is Pi, usually seen as "Thought". It has to do with all forms of thinking, analysis and understandment of the world through intellectual means. It can be found on the spleen-pancreas.

Then comes Po, called the "Corporeal Soul" (which some consider to be the densest, and not Zhi), which has to do with the general vitality of your body and regulates the connection between all the Souls and the Body.

Those would be the Five Souls - Hun, Shen, Zhi, Pi, Po.

"Spirit", by its time, refeers usually to "Shen", but can also refeer to what could be seen as Gods, Immortals, or some mixture of Shen and others Souls still inhabiting a Hun that has left its corpse (which would form Ghosts).

Quick search one can find the following:

    十戒是:不杀生、不偷盗、不邪淫、不妄语、不饮酒、不涂饰、不歌舞及旁听、不坐高广大床、不非时食、不蓄金银财宝。

    ten precepts:

    1. Do not kill but always be mindful of the host of living beings.
    2. Do not be lascivious or think depraved thoughts.
    3. Do not steal or receive unrighteous wealth.
    4. Do not cheat or misrepresent good and evil.
    5. Do not get intoxicated but always think of pure conduct.
    6. I will maintain harmony with my ancestors and family and never disregard my kin.
    7. When I see someone do a good deed, I will support him with joy and delight.
    8. When I see someone unfortunate, I will support him with dignity to recover good fortune.
    9. When someone comes to do me harm, I will not harbor thoughts of revenge.
    10. As long as all beings have not attained the Dao, I will not expect to do so myself.

That feels so non-daoist.... it is practly a buddhist sumula, with even some "boddhisatvha" vow on the end. It makes no sense. Which book is this from?

I didn't know where to post this one. I find the question may relate to Daoists or Buddhist beliefs about respecting life or not to kill. Recently, I was invaded by ants, even if there was no food around but the little they found, they will invade by hundreds that looks by thousands. Then after cleaning the house and kitchen, I decided to take a rest in the evening and little by little I found out I was attacked by mosquitoes. Then I bought a repellent plant that helped a little and dressed well to protect myself, and no, they will attack no matter what. So the question comes about, should I kill them or what should I do? Ants, don't give up so the only way I see is to kill them and stop their invasion. The mosquitoes, no matter what they will attack so I decided to avoid going out until it becomes cooler so they won't come at me. Since those religions preach not to kill, what do you do even if you try to persuade ants and mosquitoes or find other alternative and none of them works?

All the moral question asside, killing them probably won't work. Ants and mosquitoes are almost impossible to repel once and for all. They probably have infested your neighbours and/or kilometers around your house. You need to make it so they can't enter. Seal your windows with anti-mosquito screens and clean your floor with bleach every other day for 5 days. It should suffice.

  22. As far as I know, daoism doesn't advocate vegetarianism or veganism. Or the development of extreme compassion.

    That's buddhism.

However, there are several mixed practices that include both Buddhism and Daoism. On these, vegetarianism is the basys.

Now, my personal view on the subject is - be compassionate, but do not believe sentimentalism is compassion. Usually a buddhist is instructed not to lie, have sex, eat meats and etc.

But that is with a purpose, a practice and method with a goal in mind. It is perfectly possible to kill and eat with the greatest possible compassion. It just isn't taught, since it usually leads people to not practice at all.

I think it's important not to underestimate what evil people can do.

An evil person can overcome their shortcomings by collecting evil disciples.  That is where their power comes from.  An evil person takes, not cultivates.  Taking disciples is perceived by the evil person as cultivation, but it's not.

BTW, this model works well beyond the religious and spiritual world.  It also describes the political world.  Organized people in large groups can do a lot of harm... regardless of whether or not they have siddhis.

The taking is what sets up the karmic pit, and that is why these evil people cannot be called masters, imho.  It's because they are ultimately trapped in a pit of their own making.  The pit has a name; it's called "freedom".  Because of this, evil people cannot see the pit for what it is.  The label "freedom" obscures its true nature as a pit.  The disciples make it seem less like a pit and more like a secret society.

That's how it works, when it works, from my point of view.

The thing is that you cannot access some of the most profound mysteries without developing things in you these kind of practices hinder.

They can take common things from others, yes - Qi, Xue, somethimes even Shen.

But they cannot go beyond that and reach a deeper level, since a deeper level doesn't accomodate the idea of "taking" or "giving". If there is no "taking" and no "giving", how can you take something from someone?

These people always end up stagnated, not only because of karma, but because of the nature of what they do. The development of the mirror-image of onesself is the last step they can hope to reach, since destroying the ilusion and reaching the Greater Way is impossible without recognizing your own Essence - something that requires exactly the development of things like compassion and enlightenment.

I've known several people who claimed to be able to reach enlightenment "through the other route", going "down" instead of "up". Densifying their own carnal desires and ideas, dwelving into ever greater inconscience and animalism.

Usually they just lose themselves on the way, as this is not how you do it. One can only go beyond the mundane when one exists in the Abyss. And one cannot exist in the Abyss without first letting go of desires.
