  1. Can someone give me an example as to why they think this? I am on the fence as to wether believe nim or not.

    R U SERIOUS ???????

I mean do you really wanna follow him and become like him ? 'Cause that's what he is going to teach you.

All you need is a set of Moses clothes like he's got

learn a few zen concepts from the tao of pooh

and start making your own videos and don't forget the ever green bushes for the background. --- that's all his spirituality.

A real teacher is not about words its about his "being".

But if you don't see all that even after all the replies you got here on this thread - that's kinda scary.... might as well follow him.

    May GOD bless your soul.

  2. Hi all, I'm an hour-and-a-half-a-day Spring Forest Qigong practitioner. I've also practiced the Healing Tao system (Fundamentals 1 - 4) in the past. But I came back to SFQ because of its simplicity. I won't post here much, I prefer to lurk but I was itching to add something to a thread!

    Jeremy

    Hi Jeremy and welcome,

I'm very curious about the Spring Forest Qigong.

Do you mind describing your practise?

    Thx,

    Orb

  3. Hi

I've recently started Nei Gung as part of my Taiji practice, but don't understand how it will benefit me? My taiji teacher say's it'll stop me getting hurt if I get hit (which sounds fair). In the system I'm learning there are 12 yin and 12 yang movements, although I've only been shown the first 8 yin so far.

I'm also confused about the Three Treasures; Jing, Qi and Shen, how they interelate also how I can cultivate through Nei Gung / Taiji practice?

Any thoughts and advice would be greatly appreciated!

Also, I'm a bit confused why are you asking the forum something that you should be asking your teacher. I mean that the main idea for getting a teacher is to ask him questions and learn whatever he is teaching you....

  4. Rain, you are fine : ). I was not referring to you. The method of defending such attacks is built through cultivating your breath & Dan tiens. Its part the martial side of Tenaga Dalam (Pencak Silat).

Martial madness is good. One of the co authors is in my house this weekens (Dr. John Porter).

Here are more "FAKE" videos. Please enjoy. Sykkelpump...the training floor is open and ready for you, nice and warm steamy concrete :)

    Peace,

Hey Vaj if the training floor is still open can I try please? Gimme ur address

    Thx, Orb.

  5. Hi All :D

Which is the best book on the subject of sexual alchemy (taoist tantra), especially for a beginner? Something practical with easy techniques, and all that. It shouldn't just be a general talk on the subject, saying things we already know.

    Alfa

One way to find out if the book is worthit buying is by looking at the e-book. And you can find a lot of e-books like that on any subject you can think of on the internet - among the websites I use the most are :

    http://www.scribd.com/

    or

    http://www.esnips.com

On scribd you create a free account and then download ebooks for free....

  6. The way I witnessed these men be "convinced" was like this: The Aikido teacher just said: "do what ever you want." I saw attempts at take downs, boxing combos - whatever. These were the not the usual over committed lunge punches that you usually see in Aikido, but extremely centered and fast punches, kicks and submissions at a professional level. One of these kickboxers is reputed for having some of the fastest hands in the business and yet I repeatedly saw his center being taken at will by a person who seemed to move like he was out for a casual walk. I kid you not this Aikido teacher's technique looked kind of sloppy, but on crossing hands with him my root was gone so I couldn't generate any power. No matter what angle or disadvantage he let me put him in, no matter what I did my root was gone. He also personally said to me: "you've got to test me constantly otherwise you'll always have doubt, always try to get one on me, try anything you can. You're actually doing me a favor." I was never able to though. He always controlled my center at touch even if I grabbed him from behind or "unawares". To me this is internal MA.

I also met a guy who trained with a teacher called Minoru Akuzawa. From what I experienced there is some good stuff there too.

    That sounds really impressive....

  7. I've sparred with MMA trained people before. If I was better then I won. If they were better I lost. The beginners sucked like all beginners do. I used a Ba Gua kick to knock a MT guy down, but he'd trained less than a year. Does that mean MT sucks? I got punched and knocked on my ass by a MT guy with equal experience as me. Does that mean the IMA I trained sucked? I've been holding the pads and kicked by a MT fighter gearing up for a pro fight, it hurt like hell.

The point I'm making is, fighting a professional ring fighter of any style is an absurd proposition for any hobbyist like myself who trains an hour or two per day. I've accepted that fact that I will never beat Tank Abbot. However, I like to spar with guys who are at my level, and I don't always win. I've learned a lot from such sessions.

To say that no one who trains Chinese internal martial arts can withstand an "external" attack is a pretty silly generalization. It makes me think that you may not have been out and about a whole lot. If so, you might want to deepen your investigation a bit before you make such sweeping claims.

Thx for your insight Jess and please don't take my comments as an intention to disrespect you or anybody else here on this forum. However I do have very strong opinions and I will stand by them until proven wrong. I am not afraid to admit when I am wrong either. I have not met any of the IMA masters that you have mentioned so I cannot say anything about them. I am talking from my own experience and the MA practitionners that I have met. Since you mentioned Tank Abbot - I know people that can beat him and none of them is from IMA. I know a lot of people that practice IMA and can't fight, but they are under the illusion that they can - however they never test themselves against a MT fighter or a boxer or what have you... They do this "push hands" thing for years and have no clue of the real speed in a real fight, and I know guys that practiced just boxing for 3 months and can ko every single member in some taiji schools that I know. I'm sorry but it's smth that I've witnessed a few times. Now the fact that you have tryied your Bagua skills vs a MT fighter is awesome. I am looking forward to meeting serious IMA fighters. Keep it up and thank you for sharing your experience with us.

  8. I have met IMA practitioners of more than 10 years though who I've seen and felt handle mine and the best efforts of other players from BJJ, Vale Tudo, MT and Karate.

Do you remember which IMA did they belong to ?

Personally since I've never seen anybody from IMA being able to withstand an external MA attack I don't believe such a thing exists, but I'm very willing to check them out.

  9.

I haven't taken classes from Chunyi Lin since 2005 or so but he also trained Jim Nance to be a qigong master. They both send energy at a distance and have made the middle of my head burn from this energy at a distance. I did an 8 day bigu fast or energy feast just on half a glass of water and then the full-lotus practice caused the room to spin around me. At a weekend retreat I saw dead spirits, yellow orbs, coming to hear Master Chunyi Lin speak as he emitted chi. He confirmed this. Also I healed my mom of a serious illness. That was back in 2000 but the energy was too strong for normal day to day living so now I just read one book a day while having "O at a Ds" all day. Plus I have a lot of bacteria in my head from when the vagus nerve transduces the electrochemical energy or jing from my stomach. Since I don't practice a special diet I just use tea tree oil as an anti-septic.

So that's about it -- Qigong master Chunyi Lin does healing for people all over the world and he's worked with the Mayo clinic, the top hospital in the world, showing strong success with late-term cancer, etc. When I took his classes he would demonstrate telepathy to me and he would shoot out energy balls from his hands and look into my body, causing particular parts to burn with bliss, etc. He said he created another physical body and he's trained with even Yan Xin's teacher! Chunyi Lin spent at least a month in a cave with no food, no water and no sleep -- just sitting in full-lotus. The closest thing I've seen to his work is the teacher you studied with who most know as John Chang and also the Wang, Lingpi biography, "Opening the Dragon Gate" and also Dr. Yan Xin.

    Thanks for sharing.

    drew hempel

    Hi drew,

I was reading your msg and from your description Chunyi Lin has pretty remarcable abilities, I've never seen anybody who can "shoot out energy balls from his hands". Are you sure about what you are saying? And another question, since he is so skilled why did you stop taking classes from him?

If even a quarter of what you are saying about him is true I'll go over there next weekend to see him if possible...

  10. I've touched hands with a few I Liq Chuan guys and they were good. I practice tai chi myself but I have no doubt that I Liq Chuan is a lot more martially effective then a lot of tai chi out there. Out of the 4 guys I crossed hands each of them had a good ability of controlling the center at touch and by their own admission none of them was at a particularly high level in their school (between 2-4 years of experience).

That's what this guy is saying. First time he had crossed hands with the guy that became his teacher he got smth like a strong headache and the feeling that he is about to colapse - his first thought was that it's because of his jet lag as he had just gotten off this big plane trip, but when he stepped out of it - the feeling was gone and the whole thing repeated a few times. He claims that they learn how to completely feel and control the center of gravity of the opponent just but a slight move of their eyes. The part that I like the most is that they practice against real kickboxing techniques not just push hands...

  11. I'm having a hard time understanding emptiness meditation. I've watched the bk meditation movie twice and i'm still unsure of how to 'watch' my breath without feeling it or visualizing it. What are some other names for it so I can look up more resources and books? Do you just place your attention on a fixed point in the nostrils? Isn't this feeling the breath? thank you very very much for your time.

my advice get a teacher - somebody that walked that path already.

  12. I recognized several T'ai-Chi postures: brush knee(the first 30 seconds), fan through back, golden rooster stands on one leg, parting wild-horses mane. It is funny to me that people choose not to see what's hidden in the postures of the internal styles. They can be very powerful and effective if taught by a proper teacher to a willing student!

These guys definitely have a harder edge to them which, of course, is not the T-ai-Chi way. In some of the sequences it looks to me that they are doing some pieces of Liu Ho Pa Fa.

Well the guy says it's a "family style" and also that they don't study a specific form but rather learn how to adapt to any attack. Also one interesting thing that he says is that " even the fastest computer in the world that processes data and extreme speeds will not be ever able to be present....", "it can get very close to being present but never there never in reality...." and he says that's the practitioner's goal is to be completely in the moment... "that's the only way to access the energy...."

  13. Hi all,

I ran into this video below by accident. I was curious if anybody was studying this style.

I think they call it I Liq Chuan. What got my attention was the fact that these guys supposedly participated in some external kung-fu competition (full contact with full gear on) and kicked ass. The guy in the video says they got 12 golden medals. Personally I'm very critical and disaproving of most of the internal martial arts but this one looks a lot better then what I've seen so far.

Also let me know if anybody needs translation. It's pretty interesting what they are saying....

  14. As I said, I do probably have a good job opportunity so I would make every effort to pay people back at some point this year. I will also share what I learn from Chen with the board, or share as much as I am allowed with his permission.

    Hi,

can you at least mention anything that impressed you so much about him that you are willing to pay $800 for 3 days? I mean you would need a very good reason to ask smb for that amount of money that was earned in weeks and you are going to spend it in just a few days and nobody knows when and if you will pay it back. I wouldn't mind contributing to something of value but you gotta convince me first that it's worthit anything at all ....

  15. hi :)

for those interested in Christian mystical tradition, this is the best place to start I think..

    http://www.chrmysticaloutreach.com/

very very very very very good article on connecting with Holy Spirit

Thx for the link, its very informative. Somewhere I read that supposedely the the theory of reincarnation was in the bible but removed at some point in time. I am curious if anybody knows anything about this...

  16. this may yet be my most important "contribution" to taobums

the practice of connection with the Spirit, in Christianity

    my respects

    L1

In my opinion if you are going to discuss christianity on a taoist website you might as well get into the "esoteric christianity" and one of the most accessible aspects of it is the "prayer of the heart" which resembles in the end with qigong and indian meditation practises quite a bit.

    prayer of the heart link

  17. :)

THen we could do some push hands and drink some tea! ^_^

congrats for returning. It would be great to hear some personal views on the difference between chinese and american lifestyles as well as beliefs, maybe kinda like "lessons learned and things to keep in mind" ....

    thx Orb

I learned to punch and jab but what I can tell you is that after beginning practicing Zhan Zhuang - Standing Qigong for 1 hour per day the power, speed, stamina, explosion... everything increased about double. Of course everything has a limit but I am happy with my limits and especially the fact that my limits right now are much higher than before.

I couldn't agree more, but the key is that the two have to go together hand in hand. Taiji practise without the real fighting practise (and I don't mean push-hands or even sparring) it would be like practising swimming without ever going in the water.

  19. Yes actually. I make only 3800 rmb a month, and support my fiance. We do save, and our spending isn't

much any way. 6000rmb is actually very high salary, and the cost of living, though going up, is still cheap enough to survive on 4-6000rmb a month.

Food prices have risen here dramatically. Restaraunt prices went up too. My food expenses dropped from about 1000rmb to almost 500rmb monthly. That's because sometimes I would shop at the supermarkets, where food can be pricey. But I don't do that any more. Local street markets selling veggies work just fine ^_^

I often travel to a local city called Taian (Taishan) to visit my Shifu, and the hotel I stay in costs about 20 rmb a night. Some hotel rooms are just a bed, t.v. fan and table. The bathroom would be outside the room where most people paying cheap prices can use. As well as the shower.. some places have a community shower, others don't. Its changing still. But its still fine.

Travel could be expensive, but if one were to visit mountains and temples and the like, then a week or two, with about 3000rmb would be enough, depending on if you buy stuff.

Since housing is paid for by the school, utilities as well, your expenses drop dramatically. Traveling by train or bus isn't extremely expensive, but if done regularly, can be costly.

I live in Jinan city, Shandong province. Trains to Beijing, the express one, costs about 153rmb. Hotels can costr anywhere between 120-300rmb and up. If you are here with foreign money, its not a lot to spend. But if yo usave your salary from working here, its good to budget.

    Peace,

    Lin

it sounds pretty cool, can't wait...

  20. Big fat meanie hit a horse? If a horse is trying to bite someone it is because they deserve it. Seriously, I grew up on a horse farm and that guy is glue if I ever meet him.

Lol, I grew up on a farm as well and our horses were very well taken care of. This particular one used to be a racing horse and after retirement was brought to us. It was a huge horse actually and would attack unexpectedely - I don't know what had happened to him before he got there, but we were feeding the horses apples from our hands that day while the big one decided to bite and you probably know that if they get to bite you it's gonna be bad. I heard of a guy who almost died because of such a bite...

  21. To those of you who would just want to learn the most simple and yet the most effective fighting basics I highly recommend the following videos. They are free on youtube and are by far the fastest way to learn how to fight. I personally know somebody who was in a situation to punch a horse in the face with a jab like this, as the horse was trying to bite him and that little jab determined the horse to turn around and take off while still dizzy and confused from that hit.
