  1. I found my Dim Mak abilities improved greatly

once I started doing it with a knife

Well weapons like everything else in kung fu is used to enhance the use and circulation of chi.

    Kung fu masters very wise.

If you train in a close range system like wing chun you will have a short ging expression. Then even the weapons for that style will match the range and ging expression for that style like the butterfly knives for wing chun.

Most noobs and or immature people get all caught up with this neikung thing instead of learning an art completely and correctly...

  2. You know real dim mak and not just pore breathing from mantak chia books im impressed.

Normally ging just fires out of the laogong cavity but to refine it enough to where you can express it in the fuen ging expression is quite a thing....

I mean even in the magus of java when lim fought pai lok nen they were hitting each other in dim mak points....

Its essential to know these in proper training....

Usually dim mak and i mean real dim mak isnt taught in the beginning anyways in kung fu...

Plus there is alot to the fuen ging expression of dim mak.

Im sure you will cover it in your mopai forum....

  3. I was training with a "student" today (he's had 30 years experience, I'm not entirely sure I'm the teacher lol)... anyways, we started discussing martial arts and qigong teachers. He said how does he know he had gotten the proper closed door teachings from his various teachers? It was more of a rhetorical question, so I didn't have time to answer. It is something interesting to ponder though. Everyone either thinks their teacher is the best and has the most secret indoor teachings of them ALL! :D, or tends to worry that they aren't getting the true transmission and so forth. (well OK and some folks just enjoy training and don't worry about such things).

But anyways, so how does one tell? There are most definitely different quality of teachers, and you sometimes wonder if a certain teacher didn't quite get all the teachings (or perhaps they just don't want to teach them in a group class, or to you in particular). Then people wonder how can you tell which teachers are better than others? Difficult when you are brand new. I have had people explain to me how when they were new to the art they gave up a good solid traditional teacher who really new their stuff, for a fancy wushu one who didn't teach nearly as deeply.

So how did/do each of you tell? I personally don't feel asking on internet forums to be very reliable unfortunately, as it really is a popularity contest, though sometimes it can work I'm sure. Also when online, advertising does play a role. I think asking around in person, but also trying a few. You can sort of tell which one... well at the very least which one you mesh the best with and get along the best with. Sometimes I wonder if that is more important than perhaps just a bit more skill? Folks tend to learn a LOT faster when there is a connection between teacher and student. Also one can look for commonalities. There are some basic principals that folks all cover, or at least should cover (that are unfortunately left out of group classes a lot). I found asking experienced martial artists isn't necessarily the best idea, they all tell you that their teacher and their martial art is best ;).

Truth is that you really never know unless you become the successor.

Sifu can always drop a bit of knowledge that can shatter everything you thought you knew before on something you never even knew existed.

    This has been my exp.

  4. If your sensei says don't mix. Don't mix.

Still I have great respect for people like Glenn Morris who dedicated himself to studying widely and experimenting with himself and students the best way to approach esoteric meditation. There may be a reason why the MMA kicked ass against pure styles.

Well to be considered a martial art each style has to have so many strikes, locks, and so on.

So theres no need to really go outside the art its just that the art isnt being taught correctly or completely.

You dont want to spend 20yrs mixing arts just to find out that the art you started with had all the training you were looking for in the first place.

Mixing the arts will only delude the arts more.

Plus you cant mix something you dont understand. It takes a long time to understand the nature of an art.

To mix arts implies one is lacking......that's dangerous thinking.......

  5. How soon though? Many teachers have the argument that most quit within the first few months, then most of the rest within 2 years...

Well kung fu came from shaolin which is a buddhist temple.

When the buddha taught he taught completely. There is or was no bs or incomplete teachings of the buddha...

    Sifus should follow suit.

To be the transmitter of an authentic art means something.

When the sifu comes along your days of buying amazon books and so on is over for you have a teacher now and have been taken off the dabbler's hamster wheel.

To answer your question the sifu of the school should give these basics listed in my last post from the beginning so you stay healthy and have honor and pride in your school and so you know where you stand.

  6. and even dabblers who aren't dedicated... because maybe later they will be :). I always hate to see a teacher only focusing on the most dedicated and talented of students and ignoring the others. Sure I can see why they do it, but perhaps just some more focus and attention instead of ALL the teaching going to those who are best at it.

Actually I have nothing whatsoever against not teaching everything and keeping stuff back. However the basics aren't closed door at all. OK so perhaps some fine tuning specific to teach school might be, but not the few standard things everyone (or so I thought until recently) covers... But waiting until a student has been with you awhile, or that you can trust them, or you know they aren't going to run off and teach in their first year of practice, or go and post everything you teach on online forums, or screw themselves up because they aren't ready yet, or don't have the steps before something down... It all makes sense to me. Oh hell even if someone tells me such and such is for that school only, or not to repeat such and such to others; I'm good with that. They are being nice enough to share and teach with me, and they have to trust me somehow.

I'm not as sure with martial arts, qigong and neigong, but I can give 100 reasons why only a bit is taught in public or at first with the magical arts. I figure some of the reasons or similar (make sure they are ethical enough to not use the art to go mug old ladies, keep students (and people they teach) out of the asylum, etc.).

Well some has to be held back but the basics shouldnt be held back.

When a student is accepted he should be taught the herbs the lineage given an empowerment and taught about the history of the school or sect. Then taught the complete basics for what is needed to advance.

For the opposite is a student who knows nothing of the sect the lineage the herbs or the basics needed to advance and the dishonor of the instructor is exposed....

So many fall out to the way side and never make it....There are secrets in kung fu and kung fu sects.

I was on the phone with my sifu today who was telling me about a kicking form for wing chun.

And breathing while stretching and a stretching lineament.

An a bunch of other stuff.

If you change ship too many times you never make it to the good stuff.

  7. Just because you've written books, produced DVDs, and put on seminars does not mean you are a good martial artist, let alone a good teacher.

    A fucking men.

I dont care how many books or dvds a teacher makes it could be all bs.

Until you speak wit the teacher and his teacher then you might find out whats really going on.

Plus whats put in books and dvds isnt the real shit anyways.... and it was never intended to be.

Its just something to get the potential student to become a student in real life and learn the real art. Thats why the teacher is selling his book on amazon for $12.....

Then theres the case of some of these "authors" who write books didnt learn the full or correct method themselves. Then you have other authors who then in turn make other books from the book they read spreading more mis info.

Then you have people who read a freaking book on amazon and without talking to the teacher or anything like that now they offer lessons on what they learnt from the book on amazon!!!

    Quoted from here http://www.sanszu.com/meditation.html

"Lung Men Pai (龍門派) "Ling Bao Tong Zhi Neng Nei Kung Shu"

The Lung Men Pai system of Nei Kung is in fact the origins of the Nei Jia art of Baguazhang. The internal Nei Kung training methods of authentic Bagua come directly from the Lung Men Pai or "Dragon Gate Sect." This sect still teaches the complete system, through two different lines, most famously through Shifu Wang, Li-Ping."

    Pretty crazy right....

  8. It's awesome and all that you have written books, are world famous, led workshops and classes with thousands of people and such. Also awesome that you have this amazing lineage.

HOWEVER, seriously folks, teach EVERYONE the basics, the principals, the stuff that actually makes it WORK!

Because if you don't, when your students go train with others, and the new teacher says "OK so you know the standard posture, we can skip over that as it is your first class", and the student looks confused and says that hasn't been covered before.... it makes you look bad. Really bad. I don't mean that the student doesn't have good posture, I mean as in have never heard of feet about shoulder width apart pointing forward and/or tailbone under and/or head/neck up straight and etc. (varies a tiny bit by path), mingmen out, tongue to the roof of the mouth (seriously, some of you guys skip that bit, wtf?), anus and/or perinium and/or genitals tensed a bit (or a lot, dep on path)... some of you folks skipped ALL that?! This is first class, or at least first few classes sort of stuff! Not skip it during an entire 4 month course, or a bunch of several day long workshops. Seriously, what were you thinking? You really honestly think having the student stand there however and wave their arms about a bit is considered qigong? You think that random posture and no structure = martial arts?!

Or how about famous Bagua teachers who call walking about in a circle just as one is walking down the street circle walking?! Oh sure it's difficult as hell, especially for new folks, but there is a lot more to it than just wandering around in a circle! Such as that posture bit mentioned above. Structure. Where to power from, and etc.

Yes, yes I know, not every student is your disciple, or even necessarily good at it. That is irrelevant, sometimes the "worst" students end up being the best in the long run simply because they practice more. Also even for someone who doesn't practice much, correct practice will help their health at the very least. Perhaps you think "oh they won't understand it in the first year or two". Yeah whatever, try anyways, give them something to work on, something which should be taught from day one so they don't end up with bad habits, bad practice, qi deviations or other ill affects, or perhaps just make your teaching and you look bad.

Famous teachers, I feel you should take your art and your teaching more seriously.

Your students deserve it. The path deserves it. There has already been enough lost over the centuries; we don't need huge gaping holes in the fundamentals to completely destroy the art all together!

On a side note, fortunately every single teacher I have ever trained with (accept one, which I only attended a few classes with), covered the essentials very early on.

Yes this is all true, yes these are actual experiences, yes I mean more than one famous teacher.

This has been a big problem in the past...

When you have hardcore dedicated students looking for good teaching and then you find a teacher who only wants to teach a little info.

There was one teacher on here who was an ex taobum who confessed to me in private that he doesnt even teach his students the real stuff....

If just made me sick. Either teach or dont teach accep or dont accept do or dont do but dont pass on bs.

When teachers dont pass on basic info likes herbs for the training your lineage and so on guess what students leave....

Students come and students go especially if the teacher is doing it for a living but that shouldnt hinder the passing on of the art.

  9. Tibetans are badass. They sit in dark huts for like a year straight. then slowly drill a hole of light out when they are done. also doing stuff like tying disciples to trees for days, kinda like native american vision journey. Having so much contact with death they are quite vigorous.

Apparently their is another people who go into a cave and stand still and slowly shift their body in a spiral motion for 7 days straight. kinda like a taoist standing meditation, but with motion...

Yeah a tibetan master can give it to ya....

Just thinking about that initiation training makes me shudder.

When I was going thru my initiation it was in phases and right before the end of a phase I thought I couldnt make it.

During that period I remember I went to the grocery store to buy some food right after training and when the clerk saw me she screamed my aura was very bright and very dense red. It was noticable....

But at the end there was results if I mentally recited a mantra by the 3rd word My body would get intensely hot and vibrated.

  10. Infact the contact I had from another tibetan lineage that was like mine came from a tantric practice.

On alot of things we saw eye to eye.

    About the iniation

About all things were secret until you were accepted

    About the empowerment before training.

The practice I came from was shamanistic in nature there was tantric.

So for them it was about from the chakra out into the universe. Not like mine which was from the universe to the chakra.

They also had moving forms and all of that which was really cool. So just by doing a movement they could make different energies come out from different chakras and they had martial forms based on this.

Which I thought was really cool.

  11. Dorian you might want to check out Siddha yoga and kriya yoga if you are looking for what you were saying in the above.

Get the book autobiography of a yogi by Yogananda. The siddhis and abilities described in that book with kriya yoga absolutely outshine all the stuff ive heard with daoist stuff.

Things include materializing a palace out of thin air etc...

and the 'immortal' powers like bi-location, levitation, living for thousands of years etc etc

But in kriya yoga and siddha yoga there is alot more love and devotion to God realization.

Siddha yoga is like kriya except the shakti is transmitted from the guru's grace instead of mental effort by means of the student.

It is my knowledge that you have to be initiated into these yogas.

For siddha yoga check out Bhagavan Nityananda of Ganeshpuri.

For my knowledge most of these guys who've had kundalini awakening have not had it at all... the shakti has to be transmitted.

This is just what ive read and heard from others... other than that i have not had much experience with the kundalini except for seeing a red at my third eye when listening to certain indian chants and feeling a blissful energy up the spine

Some of the tibetan lineages that ive been in contact with in the past are really badass.

They told me that they usually have a lot of taoist attend their seminars in order to attain what they couldnt attain in their taoist art.

There is a lt of esoteric knowledge out there that is slept on.

All of the tibetan alchemy that ive recieved wasnt like check back with me in 5yrs it was more like let me know at the end of the month!

I havent spoke to my tibetan teacher in about a year maybe ill give him a call :D

    I got it Mosh sir.

I do tricks when circumstances dictate, sir.

After all, I do know every one under the sun.

    Time Travel is useful.

    As for Pride and Arrogance.

    Don't call me Lucifer.

I give to thee, my best of friends as promised me.

The poem I wrote for my eldest child.

    My dearest one.

    How I miss him.

    I weep always.

Here is the final stanza of that poem for my eldest.

    Now truly this is the end and a new beginning;

Now Every Word be Magic Spell,

Redeeming Fate of All who Fell.

    Know Arrogance be Most Despicable,

And Trickster ever be Most Trickable.

    ...

Like the setting the sun on the horizon the lite of life will pass all of us.

If someone comes to you for help you must help them or answer for it later.

Magic and spells only reveal who you really are as they cant over turn fate.
Trickery no matter how justified doesnt remove your role in the deceit...that was a choice.
Staff size doesnt matter for a while the whole world thought the earth was flat.
When you become a leader you run the risk of leading others astray and the sin of that will follow you.
God couldnt save lucifer because he chose to stay in hell.
    In a word - pride.
    be careful.
