  1. The mistake average men make in confronting petty tyrants is not to have a strategy to fall back on

Forbearance is to wait patiently--no rush, no anxiety--a simple, joyful holding back of what is due.

A warrior knows that he is waiting and what he is waiting for. Right there is the great joy of warriorship.

Timing is the quality that governs the release of all that is held back. Control, discipline, and forbearance are like a dam behind which everything is pooled. Timing is the gate in the dam

I hear that the year of the green wood horse is coming shortly.

  2. So what techniques are you guys talking about ? Right now I am experimenting with two techniques; right nostril breathing and focusing on the pineal gland. Haven't seen results so far yet though. I will keep experimenting with various back positions and see what I come up with. But if you have better ideas please tell me.

By far the most energizing practice I use often is Juru1 from PSD I also use gTumo. These are from KAP (there is a kap link in my sig) But I'm not a teacher and I'm not trying to say they are "better" (eg.in some cases, like high blood pressure these are NOT the practices to be doing)

edit: upon reflection perhaps something like nine step vase breathing or nine step bottled wind practice might be worth checking out via google (here is an old thread http://thetaobums.com/topic/96-nine-step-bottled-wind-practice/ )

As old Chi said regular practice will increase energy and charisma. I personally find I need to focus more on grounding eg http://thetaobums.com/topic/9719-dr-morriss-secret-smile-breathing-basic-kap-1-giri-for-the-tao-bumbs/

  3. Logical-Fallacies.jpg

Here are some reasons you might want to order one of these pretty great posters:
    1. To hang up near your computer for when you are arguing with people on the internets.
    2. To put up in your kids' bedroom so that they get all clever and whatnot, and are able to tell the difference between real news and faux news *cough*.
    3. To gift, in a slightly passive-aggressive yet still socially acceptable way, to someone who is forever making weak arguments peppered with fallacies.
    4. To hang up in a classroom, common room or other public space to make the world a more rational place.

It's much more readable readable on the site - https://yourlogicalfallacyis.com/

  4. This is another site’s Guide to Awesomeness I've removed / changed some of the site specific references

Over the years I have watched several members here become awesome. Here's what most of them have in common:

Awesome members post entertaining and informative posts in the appropriate forums.
If you post about your drunk night out in the (on topic) forum, generally the mods will inform you you were not being awesome.

Awesome members use proper grammar and punctuation, and paragraph their post every few lines with an empty line.
We have members of many nationalities for whom English is not their first language, so be clear. More than a few of our members will read your post while otherwise concentration impaired, and experience teaches us that unparagraphed posts will not be read by most.

Awesome members generally post when they have something to say.
Nothing to add? Then please don't.

Awesome members don't try to be awesome, they just are.
Trying too hard works as well on a message board as it does in wanting to get laid.

Awesome members use the Search Engine if they have reasonable suspicion their question has been asked and answered before.
We have millions of ontopic posts, most things you immediately think of have immediately been thought of many times before.

Awesome members don't freak out in a rage or other episode because of reasonable criticism and have a good tolerance of frustration.
If you are too emotional to post, do yourself a big favor and wait a few minutes before you post. Many bans are caused by heat-of-the-moment posts that break rules.

Awesome members don't come here to plug a website or product or a particular point of view.
They come here to take part in an online community.

Awesome members don't cuss, call bad names or act out bigotry in the ontopic forums.
In the off-topic forum such discourse will not be out of place and we have a crew of experts there which is both qualified and able to critique your approach and inspect it for general awesomeness to the standards of that particular forum.

Awesome members are told they are Awesome, they do not themselves insist they are.
    See: trying too hard.

Awesome members realize the limitations of Freedom of Speech.
The Message Board is not a country you live in, its a private organization you visit for information, socializing and entertainment, and as such the staff determines and enforces what's a go and what's a no in each of the forums.

Awesome members rarely get a temporary ban and when they do they do not try to evade it.
The overwhelming majority of members, like 90-95%, never gets a ban sanction EVER. If you do, do your best to avoid getting any more of them - by cleaning up your act.

Awesome members do not involve the (forum) in suicide attempts or victimizing criminal acts.
911 has been called on members, authorities informed and personal information including addresses have been made public in the most urgent of such emergencies.

Awesome members realize that the staff are volunteer workers chosen from the membership for their dedication to the community and their expertise.
Even if you disagree with some of them some of the time, realize that the staff is what makes the (forum) possible. If you disagree with all of them all of the time, please leave.

Awesome members make the (Forum) a better place.
Treat them well, just like they tend to treat others.

    Awesomeness begets Awesomeness.
You will reap what you sow, plus any number of other things depending on the forum you do the sowing in.

The above are the basics I have observed in my study of awesome people on this website; The list is far from complete but a pretty good place to start.

  5. PS, The tech team makes the BEST PFFs around, and would be happy to fancy yours up a bit MPG if you would like.

Yes PPF's are great, but really unable to address

If the other side of the community has the right to keep bringing this issue up, as far as I can see I should have the right to continue to disagree with them, no matter if 95% of the community disagrees.

The replies in this thread really seem to be requesting a different communication style than what MPG is currently implementing, but at least non-insulting communication is currently happening in this thread :) - thank you for everyone's efforts to keep things civil.

  6. It is blatant disinformation, to the level of absurdity.

Picture if you will that you are on an forum about airplanes, and one of the members posts a picture of his car and claims it is in actuality a Gulfstream G650, not a car as others wrongfully claim, and that he can indeed fly this "car" airplane in the air.

Somehow or another he convinces a good portion of the people there that everyone who is talking about cars means airplanes.

You establish that it isn't a prank being played, that somehow this guy has convinced people all cars now are airplanes, and there is no such thing as a car.

Now imagine when you try to provide evidence for why this is absurd, the group gathers together plugs their ears with their fingers and hums the national anthem of Ireland.

Well in that case I would probably harmonize with their singing and wander off as soon as I could :) Because I would truly doubt that anything I said was ever going to change their opinion - what others want to believe is up to them.

  7. My thoughts.

Putting in the effort to format it is mostly done now. It's not that big of an inconvenience on my end at this point.

I am not comfortable at all not combining my posts, I would rather have one post and zero possibility I can be accused of spamming too many posts.

These guys are going to bang the war drums and accuse me of anything they can to stop me from discrediting their teacher. No matter what I do, bloody murder will be screamed because it's almost heresy to question anything this guy says.

I would rather not give them ANY ammo to say I am spamming.

I say he is flat out wrong on this topic, and every time it is brought up again I will disagree with it.

This is one of the most fundamentally important issues in energy cultivation I am aware of.

It's not my intention to spam, harass, bother, troll or whatever anyone here, but this is really important.

    I'm not sure I understand

"every time it is brought up again I will disagree with it."

    followed by

"It's not my intention to spam, harass, bother, troll or whatever anyone here, but this is really important"

because it seems that they (the members here) understand that you point of view is different to theirs.

What is the benefit of "every time it is brought up again I will disagree with it." to TTB?

  8. It's taken many hours to get the formatting right.

Though also a little concerned about how long this takes you to be able to post stuff....

Yes it really must take ages, I think leaving the already existing upstream posts and just using multi quote to put replys in one post would be alright.... but that's just me.

But look we have an actual conversation happening here - perhaps everyone could come to some sort of agreement about what to do - then we might not even need an admin decision

    Thought ?

  9. I read Catch 22 in the last few years. I tried to read it at university because it was such a famous book, but I didn't believe anyone could actually act like that in real life, so I thought it was a stupid book ...

Now that I work for the government it totally makes sense and the only difference between my working reality and that book is that nobody is trying to shoot me!

  10. No matter how much evidence I throw at the skeptics it will never be enough, and no matter how much evidence I have it's too unbelievable for the "believers", and evidence for them is actually undesirable anyway.

    So it's a catch22.

In catch 22 didn't everyone go insane in order to cope with the insane situation?

  11. This is... unreadable to be honest.

Agreed, if anyone thinks they can tidy it (this thread) up and that the effort involved in doing that is worthwhile - then go for it :)

(the report relating to this was on page 2 )

  12. Can you give your perspective right now?

    Yes and its

My understanding is that MPG is doing his best to do as directed [added: by Trunk as admin], is not trying to be deliberately annoying, but does want to express his opinion.

Dawei, like us, we will need to wait for clarification from admin regarding this matter.

Edit to add: I'm not trying to be evasive. I have some history and experience at moderating TTB and making a fast decision when you are unsure on something new has generally not worked out well.

and yes i have seen something like "1 billion posts on the internet" eg Mak Tin Sun (IIRC) flooding the board with posts.

  13. The lack of timely remedy is becoming more a concern than the inability to apply common sense to posting as the rest of the world posts.

But he has claimed he was "told to do this"... that nobody corrects this gross misunderstanding and lets threads get overrun with such application is very bothersome.

  14. "You are not what you think you are.. but what you think, you are "

I recall that once upon a time it was though that nobody could run a 4 minute mile, it was impossible apparently ... but once Roger Bannister achieved it so did several others in the following year and I'm told now that good highschool runners can http://www.nomeatathlete.com/4-minute-mile-certainty/

In my experience, even in their native spoken language, most people struggle to communicate clearly without misunderstandings. Written language adds more opportunities for misunderstanding.

So no need to "do ya block" (very understandable to Australians - hopefully confusing to everyone else )

  16. I find internal/external a bit of a problematic divide and think a holistic approach is better that either or

i.e.an external stylist should still have internal components e.g. boxing is very physical but many boxers employ visualization and Internal stylists should have physical skills eg correct structure.

But I agree that there does seem to be more people that seem focused more on the external aspects of Tai Chi eg

P.s my vote is much more like I just practice and hope one day the truth will become evident to me.
