  1. What are you reading right now?

Every time I hear the name Shakespeare, I am reminded of the movie "Bowfinger" with Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy. Directly at the part when Eddie Murphy is given a movie script where he counts how many times the letter K shows up in it, and rips apart the name 'Shakespeare'. HILARIOUS! Sorry...just had to share
  2. What are you reading right now?

Currently re-reading and note taking, again, on the Shurangama Sutra. Over and Over and Over again.
  3. Buddha kept silent about God

hahaha Its quite unfortunate that many "modern" Chan people have no clue. Yet on the other hand, there are truly intelligent Chan cultivators out there. Depends on if the books that are mostly present are written by so called Chan people who had a course in college, and or read from other people who "think" they got "it". There are a few people to reference, and some sutras: Master Ou Yi, master jing Kong, Master Xuan Hua, Master Xu Yun, Master Heng Shi. There are more in China at Da Bei Si (Great Compassion Temple) in hei Long Jiang China, Nan Hua Monastery in Shaoguang Guangdong. Heck, even Shakyamnuni Buddha's Shurangama Sutra speaks all about Chan (Dhyana). Then there is Master Hui Neng (6th patriarch's Platform Sutra), Diamond Sutra, Heart Sutra, Amitabha Sutra, Great Compassion Dharani Sutra, just to name a few for reference. But still, there are mainly commercialized info in "modern" books about it that just make me go
  4. What is your opinion on "human nature"?

haha Not really that bad. all living beings have these components. It all depends on what nourishes the mind, thus energy. It takes a long time for one to be totally yin, or at least in that expression. It is that what you do, you become. Do as a wholesome immortal, become one, do as a Bodhisattva, or Buddha, you are one, thus will realize that full pure state, eventually. Same with the "bad". Do as a malevolent ghost, a malevolent spirit, demon, etc, eventually one will become just as they are. Once past the conscious obstruction, false thinking ceases, and thus the sky, the clouds and reflection are no more (no more falsity). Then, we can really know the true nature of living things, even humans. But before that, our habits, views, associations to emotions and thoughts are conditioned. Not just from our parents, friends music, society, tv, etc, but from our past lives. Whatever influences us from our past lives will do so in this one. If we keep up those ways, we will empower it to continue for countless lifetimes. if we don't know the difference, we continue, if we do know the difference, its just a matter of changing our thinking and feeling habits, and then adjusting our views along the way. There are "good" and "bad " demons, ghosts, spirits, sprites, immortals, gods, etc. But you will never see a Bodhisattva or Buddha, or wholesome immortal, Dharma Protecter (in any "tradition" of cultivation) killing or harming another just for the hell of it, or even at all. They would most likely scare the crap out of someone to make tthem stop the nastiness or ignorance, but never kill. We know it as Pure Yang, Full Yang Qi, which makes one immortal, and also a Buddha, when it is more refined. There is pure Yin, full yin, hence ghosts, and the like.
  5. Right Wing War Against LGBT's

Yup! People will be the way the are, and choose. Its a shame many feel the need to impose their own ideas of how things should be. It would be better to look at how things are now, and work with them, not in favor of either one, but in empowering people to simply be accepting, understanding, and non-imposing of personal beliefs. If someone cares to know, they will ask. If not, ...who cares... lol
  6. What is your opinion on "human nature"?

They have the components to go either way. Yin or Yang. hence why many beings prefer a human body for cultivation. The set up is quite convenient. hahaha
  7. What is your opinion on "human nature"?

The "nature" that people associate with being human is simply the karmic conditions leading them to be reborn as a human in the first place. Without it, the human body would have no nature to it. Generally, there is a mass conscious behavior that all humans seem to accept: To be desirous, have the potentials of evil and good, ego, confusion, and the like. Thus claim that emotions and sexual behavior, confusion and mistakes are just human nature. When in fact it isn't. It is made up of karmic conditions which result in the particular human to be a specific way, which can change. Due to one's karmic nature, they will have the manner of being (which we call one's nature) as being humorous, aggressive, confused, aloof, etc. It is so fixed in one's mind that they are the way they have fond themselves to be, that this mannerism becomes so fixed, and is seen as just the nature of the person, The original way of the person. But it is not. Humans have both Yin and Yang, and can go either the ghost/demon way, or the Wholesome Godly/immortal, and Become Buddhas. One's true nature is likened to a pearl sewn into one's clothes. Its sewn so well that you can't even realize its there, and when you do, its either too late, and or covered up by loads of dirt. find the true nature, and you will find that human nature is not what was once thought to be.
  8. Q's...ONLY Teachers may Answer.

Wonderful question! Do it in any position. Why? Because the mind doesn't change shape, and it is with the mind that you contemplate the method and apply concentration with. If you are hindered by the position of the body, just realize the body is a product of thought, of mind, and emotion, and thus not in "control" of your mind. Any "energy" practice, any Qigong canbe as simple as breathing regularly, and just concentrating on it, and or in any position from walking, to showering, to sitting on the toilet, to doing anything at all. As long as you feel physically comfortable in whatever position you like...go for it.
  9. Qigong exercise or massage for feet?

To talk about the methods would be a big big post. Soaking feet is a good method, warm water, epsom salts (always a general choice). Get to an acupuncturist who does tuina as well, and ask if they also do moxabustion. I have treated many a sore feet, plantar ficitis (inflamation of the the soles of the feet) along with various muscles pains, etc...with acupuncture and moxabustion. I would ask if you are experiencing other health issues, for they can cause pain in the foot (some conditions in the internal organs) Anywho, find Chinese Medicine, if you can. If you want detailed explanations, I am willing to go into it, but it would be better to find someone in person. You have had this for a long time, so basc methods may not totally clear up the problem. Peace and Blessings. Lin

  11. Namo Amituofo - How to chant -

I never heard of Master Nan before. Sounds wuite interesting. I'm sure an email wouldn't fit the file size. Thanks for the option. Its too much trouble, but if you ever get around to it, I would be glad to investigagte his lectures.
  12. Namo Amituofo - How to chant -

My brother from another mother... All the sutras are important ones..ahahaha BUT I understand what you mean Yes youtube is blocked and vpns aren't working well in China anylonger...
  13. 30 minute 30 day mentorships

I have been doing this for years. email correspondence with various cultivators. First time actually displaying it publicly though. I do like the idea that "The Learner", Michael, has, so in respect to him and his compassion in opening such a forum, here I go ***I wont take on this project for only one month. Once you start with me, I am made available any time. Consider my doors open till I am done with this lifetime. i will generally post the categories of practice, and then who ever feels a connection, just pm me a question (email me: [email protected]) a specific thing you wish to practice, and I will be more than happy to offer anything I can. Just know that somethings have specific requirements, and I will not teach the method if those requirements honestly can not be kept. Unless I am given the ok by the bearers of the method...hahahahahahahahaha Buddhist Educational Cultivation: Sutras, Chan, Pure Land, Mantras, 42 hands and Eyes (But have a requirement, as a safeguard ) Visualizations, Dream Practices, Ghost/Spirit/Demon subduing (this will require lots of specific responsibilities, so if one is really ready for that, be my guest, but don't feel frustrated if the requirements are too much to handle. There is a reason for such things ), Rebirth in Pure Land methods for helping living beings move on, and or transferring merit and virtue to assist them in their lives. Standing, sitting, lying and walking practices (In the exact ideas of QIgong, except not too focused on the progression but the application of mind. Oh, and very much needing the body. ) Daoist Spiritual Practices: Standing, sitting, lying, and walking practices. Meditation, "Energy Work" (just a coined term, nothing new-agey) Qigong practices (just ask what you seek, and I will conjure up the teachings ) "Shen-Gong" (not spirit or ghost, or demonic, or even godly possession) This means that one will be given practices which enable them to go deeper into their mind, utilizing movement and stillness of body and mind practices, focused on learning from wholesome sources, and awakening to their inherent wisdom. These wholesome sources are either Dharma-Protectors, Wholesome and Pure Minded Immortals, Gods, Bodhisattva and or Buddhas (which would be very hardcore high level stuff). You would not be possessed by anything, only guided in mind according to what you can understand, and conceive of that is possible. And NO, you will not be walking on water, flying or burning things with your mind, energy or whatnots...hahahaha (God knows I have been asked that question millions of times. Hey, if you end up learning how to do it, hahaha be my guest.) various practices in both Buddhist and Daoist schools (for I don't see their difference ) : This means practices both in "sealing" a room, or expanse of land, for protection from various ghosts, spirits and demons, clearing a space, recognizing ghost, spirit and demonic influences in and around oneself; or in others. How to clear away such "negative" influences, utilizing the character 佛 for sealing, and clearing. Also in the above categories, methods on healing utlizing Qigong methods for both you and on the sick and dying. Basically a method of Hands on Healing, not Reiki, not the new-agey fluffy stuff either. Just simple practices to get one started in this manner of lifestyle, and practice. I know it seems a lot, but its not. I just feel that going into detail may not only clear up the ideas of what I do, but also help those who are interested, get an idea of what they may be looking for. Who knows what else I have in my bag 'o tricks here. Peace and Blessings! Enjoy! Lin
  14. Right Wing War Against LGBT's

straight or gay, its still the individual's problem in the end... ( no pun intended...hahahaha)
  15. Namo Amituofo - How to chant -

Sounds like a great task to undertake! Best of success with that! As a resource for translated sutras from Chinese, check out the btts online site, along with google : Master Xuan (Hsuan) Hua. You may find loads of the work he and his disciples did in translating Buddhist Sutras from Chinese to English, along with loads of commentary and instructional audio from Master Hua spoken by his disciples. I have a Dharma Brother who studied Chinese for 10yrs in China till he got his masters degree. His goal was to translate Chinese Translated Buddhist Sutras. Though after some time, he became Muslim. hahaha Good for him, but he has a new mission now. I still wish he would translate sutras though.
  16. Theravada and Mahayana

That website and its excerpt on the Buddha is totally garbage. We have parts of the Buddha's physical human body still on our planet. After it was cremated there were many sharira, and these pieces have been around the world. Some are here in China, some in India, Korea, Japan, etc. I have seen some here in China. Check to see if any were carbon dated. hahaha Or better yet, instead of speculating, get a grant from the gov., and start research on carbon dating the Buddha's remains. That and or actually go into deep concentration through meditation, gain some samadhi, and inquire if the Buddha was "real" or not. haha Every one is so bent on if this teaching is real, or when it was configured, if the Buddha was actually here...haha its quite funny. We can all have our answers if we just investigated our mind. No intellectualism, no conscious thinking, no nothing. Just straight up cultivation, become enlightened, then realize Buddhahood, and then find out. Why speculate, do the work and get the answer. Really quite simple.

  19. Q's...ONLY Teachers may Answer.

This is so very very good!
  20. Theravada and Mahayana

I came across this on wikipedia not too long ago. haha Very similar explanation. I say, if the principles within the sutras of the various "traditions" resonate with the Buddha's Dharma, it doesn't matter how they want to break things up. I spend no time worrying about the different sects, and focus more on the principles.
  21. I just moved back to China from NY. I thought China was bad, but U.S. jeez. And now I am back in the land of "who cares about the next guy, its my turn first!" hahaha Yes, Mantra for purifying food: HAHAHAHA Of the Shurangama Mantra: Line 237; Pi Sha Po Ye For dispelling all poisonous drugs, dissolve any toxin. Can dispell poison in any concoction, in vegetation, wood and chemicals that harm people. All toxins that are completely poisonous are turned into sweet dew. :-) Takes a lot of practice to develop the skill to use this function, but its some good stuff. Saved me from getting poisoned by a few crazies over the last few years. Gladly, those crazies are gone now....Imean, no longer in the realm of my life. hahaha
  22. Monsanto is just pure evil in human form, reaking havoc on everything. Poison. Forget China! GMO everywhere, and luckily haven't found flouride use in the water yet...lol Also lucky that in China we can still buy GMO free veggies, but nothing is safe out here...hahaha. When I lived in Shanghai, I heard from shoppers at the local farmer's market Iwent to, that there were eggs that bounced being sold. They got rid of them, thankfully.. but ...scary. Its best to either grow your own food, and or say a food purifying mantra over what you buy, also soak the veggies for at least 20 minutes, then rinse. hahaha
  23. Q's...ONLY Teachers may Answer.

there were a great many. But I will name one: The sky and the ground maintained an equal pull: up and down. Then pressing into the root, with light press at the feet from the hips, further strengthened that pull, thus caneling out it self (the up and down pull), and made it easier to neutralize on incoming force, slip under another's root and even press into their root from above.
  24. Q's...ONLY Teachers may Answer.

Inhale from the tip of the penis, up through the spine to the crown, and then back down to the dan tian, on exhale keep focus at dan tian. This can be done whenever the desire arises, and also throughout the day, for a constant "saving" of the sexual energy instead of letting it disperse on its own. You can also direct the energy not just to the crown, but also to the 3rd eye (pineal gland), or to the heart center, and even on the inhale you can choose to bring it up to the crown down to the dantian, and around to the mingmen, then on exhale hold focus at the mingmen. (Just a few options to play with.) if one chooses to sit in meditation for this practice, do it for 15-30 minutes 2x's a day for as long as the retention practice is ...practiced. It can be done standing, lying and walking as well. During sexual stimulation, do not ejaculate, but upon the orgasm, inhale it to the crown, and into the dantian. On exhale, keep focus at dan tian. Throughout the whole entire practice, keep the tongue to the roof of the mouth. Even something more simple than that, chant OM and direct the vibrations you make with your molars right to the genitals, and then, when you feel charge up in that area, direct that sensation right up the spine to the crown and right back down to the dantian. You can place that vibration also to any other chakra you wish. On the inhale, hold focus at that center. That's as simple as I can make it, without any loss of sexual energy, and without any harm. Enjoy! Lin
  25. Pure Land Buddhism

YES! Here he uses the word doubt as the expedient to practice. i spoke on mindfulness as an expedient, but it must be dropped. I figured he was speaking on terms on this manner of sentient existence, but would not comment till it was sure. YES! Investigate the mind utilizing the mannerism of doubt as the expedient to see the falseness of concepts, thus breaking down views, and attachments to them, seeing past one's false thinking and hence, the original mind is revealed. Faith and the like, all that is the method of fire against fire, just like the hua tou. And when the time comes, that too must be dropped. GOOD STUFF!
