  1. Where is the mind?

I cannot help but notice how true that haiku is
  2. recent meditation & brain study

Thanks for posting the link to this article! I found it quite the most interesting Hopefully I can get this passed on to my friend here pretty soon if my internet connection wasn't so spotty... All the best, Cyril
  3. Where is the mind?

I don't want to sound like I'm just wasting precious text space with this forum post or anything like that, but seriously? How can you locate the 'mind' when it is not really findable. After all, isn't the whole concept just a mere illusion in the first place?
  4. Hello everyone, So I was reading this article today as I was checking my email for other messages, when I realized exactly what I was reading: Darwin's Radio: Prehistoric Gene Reawakens to Battle HIV. In context, this other thread on The Tao Bums is also revelant to this idea. Now, according to certain Qigong practices, ... or should I say ... Kunlun Nei Gung to be specific, there are certain sources which say that cultivation can harness the power of our "junk" DNA which is approximately 95% of the human genome. Does this mean that humanity does not have to worry itself over sexual practices in the "mundane" phenomenal realm by simplying practicing Kunlun Nei Gung? Also, could it be possible that there are other abilities (those which would be considered 'supernatural') controlled human genome that could be unleashed as a result of cultivation in general that are mentioned in certain schools of Taijiquan, Kunlun, or Buddhism (no one particular Mayahana and Vajrayanist schools)? Also, could this be related to the placebo effect that the mind has over the body in being able to ciphen off and cure seemingly incurable diseases using cultivation practices? I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.
  5. I met a tao bum!

Living somewhere near a buddhist meditation center? Who knows, maybe he gets some energy from being near the center for extended periods of time
  6. HIV immunity and Kunlun Nei Gung

If by someone you mean the scientists, then I can somewhat see your point, but I was merely asking about this from an objective perspective, and how it could (or could not) apply to diseases and illnesses in general.
  7. HIV immunity and Kunlun Nei Gung

Does anyone have any responses to whether or not Kunlun or some other form of cultivation practice can yield similar results for other diseases or conditions in general (not just HIV)?
  8. Perhaps you should give Arch Linux a try with the installation to a USB stick? Link: Installing Arch on a USB Key For using a USB stick as install media, take a look at this article as well: Install from USB stick You should make sure you have a decent sized USB key though, depending on your requirements for what software you want installed on it and whatnot.
  9. I met a tao bum!

Funny you mention that though, because I just noticed the exact same thing with my laptop here (but minus the coffee unfortunately). As for the original topic, I can't say that I've met too many people that could potentially stop my own thoughts - though I have met a person who could somewhat figure out what I was going to do the next day; so I guess. If you ever run into that soul again, ask him if he really knows that he can stop thoughts It would be interesting to see his reponse if he does indeed know what he's doing.
  10. Hello everyone, For the most part, I'm usually not too good with introductory posts, but I will try to give it my best shot. My main interests are in Zen Buddhism, but more recently in Tai Chi and Qigong which has lead me to this wonderful forum I know most of the pertinent knowledge to understand material, but I am not well experienced in my exploration of these subjects either. This is one of the reasons why I am here also. It is my hope to learn new and exciting things here on this forum, and I look forward to reading more interesting topics! --Cyril
