  1. How To Heal A Cold With Tao? Or Zen?

I don't often get sick and it's usually quite a shock to both me and my friends when it does happen. I just recently got sick though and I suspect it's because I recently started working security in a local nightclub so there's lots of cigarette smoke which I normally avoid like the plague that it is I woke up so Ill I couldn't get out of bed and my throat was so swollen that I couldn't swallow at first. I rested and practiced qigong for most of the day and when I was able to get up the next day I went for some intense cardio. I've done this before and it usually helps quite a bit. While You're doing it you feel like you're going to drop dead but after you feel MUCH better. All the sweating and breathing helps clean out your blood and it gets the lymph moving too. Have some tissues and a trash can nearby though because your body is going to start getting rid of all that mucus that's clogging you up quick, fast and in a hurry. You'll cough up some real nastiness and your nose will run like a faucet but you'll be able to breath much easier for the rest of the day. If you take Taomeow's advice and avoid exercise then I would say maybe lots of deep breathing in a sauna? Garlic is great for the immune system too though I've never tried it as a tea. *gag*
  2. Sounds with or without actual sound..

You mean that constant ringing in the center (actually maybe a little back) of my head is useful for something? I've heard that since I was a kid. If I'm not thinking about it it's fine but once I notice it (if someone writes about it on a forum for instance ) it gets plenty loud. If I pay attention to it other tones will join in, but nothing more interesting than that has ever happened. For me it's usually like 'the game' where you lose every time you remember or think about it (i just lost again the for first time in months and months ) because once I think about it the ringing starts again. Then again I'm not certain it ever stops.. When I was a kid I thought there was something wrong with my ears but I got tested and they said I was fine. Guess that means I'm on the road to enlightenment, though more likely walking in circles, probably backwards to boot Or it could just mean my childhood doctors were quacks (likely) and that I just have tinnitus. How does one tell the difference? P.S. As I listen to it right now there are at least 3 or 4 tones and also a fast pulsing beat that only occurs in my right ear. go figure..
  3. I could just be confusing it with another Lu story I heard too. Lu drank a bar dry (as in all the wine they had) then couldn't pay the tab. He resolved this by painting a picture (of a crane I think) that was so beautiful and lifelike that people would come from far away just to see the picture bringing much profit to the bar owner. This lasted until the bar had made enough money from the travelers to cover Lu's tab at which point the bird in the painting came to life and flew away
  4. When that story was first told to me, it started with Lu in a bar drinking away his sorrows having just failed his first attempt at those tests. Zhongli sits next to him at the bar and asks why he's so sad that he has to drink himself into a coma and after explaining his pitiful plight Lu promptly passes out face-first on the bar and has the dream. When he finally comes around he recognizes Zhongli and follows him to learn the way. I like this version better because it has beer Also for some reason I've alway associated Lu Dongbin with alcohol
  5. Master Wang LIping's seminar in SC

I knew I liked you :D I was merely trying to point out how absurd it is to expect someone to answer questions on a forum when he has no connection to and likely no knowledge of said forum. Even more so to make it sound like he has some sort of character flaw for not doing so. We're all 'random nobodies' to those we've never met.
  6. Master Wang LIping's seminar in SC

Just out of curiosity, don't you think a high level master would have better things to do than spend all his time scanning every possible forum in every country of the world just in case he might be able to answer a few questions from some random nobody? Maybe he would prefer to, I dunno, train himself or his actual students? Or maybe you're so very special that HE should search for YOU instead of taking care of his family and living his life?
  7. Chinese Martial Arts and MMA/UFC

Several people have said it already (sort of) but there is a huge difference between combat and sport. It's really hard to put someone in an arm bar or to stay mounted when they have their finger to the second joint in your eye socket. You can't really have fighters breaking joints, ripping off fingers or tearing pieces of each others faces off if you want to have fighters for the next pay-per-view If you put a high level CMA master in a cage and tell him he's not allowed to do anything he's actually trained for then he's gonna pounded into a puddle. What do you think would happen if they were outside with no rules? It would probably go very differently. I suggest we just enjoy it for what it is, a pair of gorillas pummeling each other for fun and profit. After all that's what they train so hard for and they seem pretty good at it P.S. I'm not British but I suddenly felt the need to say CHEERS!
  8. The Fourth Way

Oops! Didn't even notice the link Thanks, I'll have a look.
  9. The Fourth Way

So if that's the fourth way, what are the first, second and third ways?
  10. Wire Hitter

lol I completely thought that said 'wire hitler' when I clicked on it I was expecting something random and thanks to drew thats exactly what I got! well played drew, well played...
  11. tummo and chi

Don't apologize for wanting info learning is a good thing. It just also happens to be a hot topic on the board over the last few days. It's not that people don't want to help, they just don't seem to go about it in a useful way. Also bear in mind my posts often come across much more harshly than I intend. I'm still working on that one. I forgot to mention gTummo (tummo) before. It's a Tibetan meditation with a tendency to generate huge amounts of heat and I hear it builds up tremendous levels of energy in the body. I don't really have a 'deep' understanding of it myself though. If you look around, you may be able to find an instructor in your area. In the long run tummo may be more beneficial but if you want to break things then Iron body may be more fun for now. live and learn eh?

Thats not unlike the new kid at the gym. We've all seen him at least a few times in our lives. He weighs 140 pounds and thinks he's gonna turn into the hulk in a month but doesn't have clue 1 about proper strength training. He asks how many sets of concentration curls he should do instead of how to deadlift. He doesn't know the first thing about squatting but thinks as long as he takes lots of protein shakes he's got everything he needs. So he walks up to you and asks what set/rep scheme is best for getting his bench press up to two plates (thats 225 pounds for you non-gym rats ) You tell him something like, "you shouldn't be looking for a big bench press. You should be working on your overall physical development." Well guess what, he doesn't have enough experience yet to see the value in that and isn't going to listen so instead he trains like he sees in those retarded magazines or copies something stupid he saw on the internet and gets himself hurt. If you had explained to him how adding dead lifts or squats would have boosted his testosterone and growth hormone levels enabling him to increase his overall strength (especially his bench press) then he would have listened and made progress. WE ALL HAVE TO START SOMEWHERE. Our goals change as we gain experience. Shutting someone down with questions about their motivations that they may not even fully understand yet just because their stated goals aren't at 'your' level isn't very understanding or compassionate. Pak John over in java started learning because he wanted power for powers sake. He basically just wanted to be a badass. Now he has a level of power that few can even understand and most of us will never reach. Don't refuse to water a sapling just because it hasn't grown tall enough for your tastes. Or at least if you do please don't pretend that it's anything other than elitist. Please don't take this as an attack. Just an observation.
  13. The Pursuit of Power

You guys shouldn't be saying these things. You should just seek after enlightenment like my master who can walk on water and shoot lightning from his arse. BTW he doesn't teach these things because powers are just a distraction
  14. tummo and chi

I wasn't trying to criticize your post. Just using it as an example since it was the most convenient You've gotta admit, sloppy has a huge point. People here almost never talk methods but instead go on and on about why you shouldn't be looking for power ad nauseam. You can use my post as an example. I gave him enough info to clarify some points and pointed him in the direction of a qualified teacher that can take him closer to where he's trying to go. Is that so difficult?
  15. tummo and chi

Burning things requires more advanced skills than most ever seem to achieve. I know people who have trained for 20+ years and can't do that. In fact I've never met anyone in person who could or claimed to. Understanding of the tantien changes depending on training and background. In Longmen Pai it's a very specific achievement and must be created within the body. In most other understandings I've come across the name simply represents a location in the body where chi tends to gather during practice. (a little below the navel and in a few inches) Chi is a very complex issue indeed. Most often it is translated as 'energy' and this can be a useful working definition but it is not strictly speaking entirely accurate. If you want to break things with your head and arms then start asking around at local kung fu schools whether they teach Iron body/iron shirt. It is a form of chi kung (qi gong) specifically designed to protect your body from damage. hope that helps P.S. I can't speak for other forums but asking for 'how to instructions' on this forum seems pretty pointless. Any questioning about how to get power on this forum only results in posts like the one above from Immortal_sister. In fact sloppy recently started a thread here about exactly that.
  16. I see this all the time and now I'm really curious. The most aggressive estimates I've ever seen say that all humans (including our machines, factories, etc..) combined contribute 5% or less carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. The other 95+% comes from rotting plant and animal matter and volcanic activity. Again that's extremely aggressive. The most common estimate I've seen is 3% so how can we be responsible for heating up the planet? I've also seen that the other planets in our solar system heated up just as much as ours did and some of their moons (made of ice) even melted. This probably has something to do with the increase in solar activity that happened while all this was occurring. I say was because the planet has been cooling off for several years now and this last winter the news was reporting the coldest temperatures in 50 years where I live. So basically my question is where are people getting the idea that global warming is going to kill us all and that its our fault? Or that it's even still occurring? I mean other than Al Gore and his associates. I don't consider politicians, banks and businesses that stand to make huge sums of money a viable source for accurate information. P.S. PLEASE, no flaming, name calling, or straw man arguments. I understand this is a *hot* topic but I'm looking for rational conversation only. Trolls need not apply
  17. Can someone please explain this to me?

Very interesting post Marblehead, as usual I'm definitely with you on conservation (not just environmental). Waste not, want not and all that It just seems to me that if, as we seem to agree, humans are not causing the apocalypse with our miniscule 'carbon footprint' then maybe we could spend our energy on cleaning up our act in other ways. There are many forms of pollution that have been proven to harm the environment so why focus on one that has no solid evidence behind it? All the toxic chemicals related to production of most petroleum based products and instead we focus on carbon? thelerner, the 'bigwigs' like gore ARE making lots of money off of it. His big scheme to 'save the world' has you paying private banks for carbon credits. And if I'm not mistaken his carbon-offset corporation is the first and the biggest. He makes ridiculous sums of money by screaming that the sky is falling. That's why his house uses more electricity in one month than most American homes use in 17, he can afford it.
  18. New Age Bullies

I found this article to be very interesting and it hit me in a very personal way. I can't agree with everything she said but she did make some points that I found enlightening. I have a very strong belief that everything that happens to us is in some way a consequence of our own actions or beliefs whether it be considered good or bad (whatever that means). If something 'bad' happens to me then clearly I should modify my behavior to obtain a different outcome. Believing that it's not my fault means I have no ability to change anything, so all I can do is bitch and moan 'poor me ' The key factor though is that this belief comes ( and must to be useful) from a sense of power rather than weakness. If I caused it to happen then I can do things better next time. I have had several experiences where people I care deeply about have been suffering and I see them fall into a victim mentality. I've personally experienced the downward spiral this can cause (it nearly killed me actually) and try desperately to show them the wonderful power they have to change things for the better. This has rarely gone well though Often enough, as pointed out in the article, they take it only as blame pushing them deeper into the pain I was trying to save them from. It then gets quite a bit more difficult to comfort them. It can be very painful to see words intended to comfort and empower have the opposite effect so these days I choose to be MUCH more carful about the way that I introduce concepts like this or whether to do it at all. To me it has been much more useful to show people how to apply this concept in an area where they already feel powerful and then help them expand it to other areas. Once they're already hurting it's too late you'd do better to just give them a shoulder to cry on If more people read this article I suspect many could avoid learning these lessons the hard way like I did.
  19. your favorite Immortal or Qi Gong Master?

I seem to recall reading that Lu Dongbin was somewhat mischievous and I'm not really familiar with all that many so probably him.
  20. Corrupt a Wish.

Granted! You do in fact know better. However, you just can't help yourself because this is after all the most entertaining thread in just about any message board anywhere I wish my last wish had not been auto-corrupted.
  21. Corrupt a Wish.

Granted! You can wish as much as you like but every one of them gets corrupted by some mean-spirited sod like me I wish I could move to costa rica tomorrow
  22. Corrupt a Wish.

oops did it again! wow I need to sleep a little more before I try to post. I wish I didn't need to sleep!
  23. Corrupt a Wish.

  24. Corrupt a Wish.

oops forgot to wish! I wish I had a perfect memory!
  25. Corrupt a Wish.

Umm, that's two wishes and you left sloppy hanging Don't worry Sloppy, I got your back. Your wish is granted! Your eyesight is now so good you can even see through things. Unfortunately you can't turn it off so while you might be happy every time a pretty woman goes by, things take a turn for the worse when you visit your parents
