  1. Microcosmic orbit training is sitting meditation. Zhan Zhang is macrocosmic orbit.

When you do whatever it is you were trying to explain, touch your tongue to the upper palate. This creates a connection for energy to flow down from your head to the tan tien, and is used in all forms of meditation.

It sounds like your imagination went into overtime trying to direct energy flow and made you unstable, with all of the talk about jing inside of your head, spinning your head around your neck, etc. When I was a kid we would spin our heads until we got dizzy and sometimes passed out on the playground. What Fun!

  2. The tree is a fun analogy. Do you practice ant form of standing meditation? Yiquan teaches standing before a tree as part of its practice, and I'll bet you got the tree quote from a book about it.

  3. Hi,

It takes about 10 years of practicing a tai chi form to begin to understand it. If you practice standing meditation, about 100 hours of standing to get the basics developed. The best way to learn is not to worry about if you are cultivating anything, but to relax and enjoy it. Practicing tai chi is a form of qigong and you will naturally cultivate your chi. It's also best to have a teacher who will correct your form and help you to make adjustments. Dr. Sheehan teaches mostly Arnis, which comes from the Phillipines and is a kick ass martial art.

The chopstick skill has nothing to do with chi.

Feeling your hands warm up has been considered a way to detect chi flow in the beginning. It really has more to do with the friction of blood flow... There are no shortcuts to learning this, you have to develop at one incremental step at a time. Yes, there are specific techniques used to manipulate chi once you have made the proper connections and cultivation, but if I told you them, they would kill me.

  4. Herbs, diet, etc will not help. Your problem is not with testosterone levels but that you have become too anxious whenever you begin to have an erection, oh my god, am I now going to whack off or can I leave it alone?

The problem is that you have linked any erotic response to porn and jerking off. It causes guilt and anxiety, especially if you try to have an erection in response to a real person.

Meditation to help confront your fears, practice having sex with a real person, and learn to enjoy the erotic part of your being... these are what spending money on therapists will tell you to do, so why not do it on your own?

  5. Hi,

I've registered as guangping, which is a county in China where the style of tai chi that I've practiced is named after. Or Kuang Ping style, as taught by Kuo Lien Ying in San Francisco, and one of his primary students Bing Gong. I have also studied with Jerry Alan Johnson, and a bit with Bruce Kumar Frantzis. Also studied yiquan and qigong, though we used to call them warm-up exercises...

I'm an old guy, 55, living in Colorado Springs, CO. Currently practice more meditation than tai chi. and fall asleep a lot during practice. Before I moved here, I gave all of the books I had collected over 20 years to the local acupuncture college in Santa Cruz, CA.

I think that just about everyone who has practiced tai chi has had the fantasy of becoming a Daoist.
