I would advise making a talisman yourself. If you buy one (make sure you it was made under the correct astrological timing), you will need to personally consecrate it under simple planetary timing and add a little of your blood to link the talisman to yourself.

"Was the astrology used in conjunction with that ( to decide 'when' to specific rituals or processes ) or for other purposes ? " Yes astrological timing is extremely important.
