  1. Flying Phoenix Chi Kung

@zen-bear are you going to be teaching TTP 31 anytime soon? I want to add it to compliment FPCK, might as well keep it under same lineage. I ordered DVD's from Taoist sanctuary of San Diego(the only known 31 moves TTP DVD that exists that I know of) but its been a week and they still haven't sent me anything. I know you're not affiliated with them, but either way I'm just looking to learn any way. EDIT: Taoist sanctuary of San Diego got back to me and they're shipping the DVD's!
  2. Hello folks(if you want to skip intro scroll down to 3rd paragraph), to make a very long story short, I had a hernia in 2023. Got surgery in 2024. Between diagnosis/surgery/recovery 14 months went by from being very active in the gym to not active whatsoever. Came back to gym Jan of this year. Over time lower back pain starts to creep up and starts to get worse and worse. I get diagnosis; it turns out when you've been away from being active for 14 months, muscle groups tend to go to sleep and neuromuscular wise they don't turn on when they need to which was the case for my hips/core/glutes, so my lower back was taking the brunt of the load. This led to strain that got worse and worse. Now I am doing PT. The issue I am now having hypersensitivity and inflammation in my lower back. I do PT daily and light gym activities, but the issue is my job is in front of a computer at the house all day. The lack of movement(outside of PT and gym) is my biggest enemy because movement and blood flow circulation is what I need. I took up Flying Phoenix Qi Gong but I had to go to Vol 2 which are seated meditations because I could not do Vol 1 standing static holds. The horse stance makes my lower back irritated after a min or 2. Also as you may know, terry suggests to do the movements as slow as possible, so while great for FPCK, not so great for blood flow circulation. So I was wanting to pair another form of qi gong with Flying Phoenix(NOT at the same time, I know it would have to be spaced apart), that is more active, but not physically demanding. Bonus points if the style has emphasis on lower back pain and stiffness. I do not mind if it's an online course/or I have to buy DVD's or a free youtube link. I am all open to suggestions. Can you kind folks plz suggest to me something that would fit this description. Thank you.
  3. Everyone post some favorite quotes!

I’m not a huge Lord of the Rings fan but always liked this quote: It’s about adversity and acceptance of unchosen circumstances. Don’t waste energy wishing life were different. Focus on how you can use the time and circumstances you do have. Greatness emerges when people rise to challenges they never wanted. What makes this quote even more powerful is JRR Tolkien fought in WW1. He was at the Battle of the Somme, which was one of the most brutal battles in the war. He experienced the horrors of trench warfare. So this quote was not written from philosophical stance, but from the firsthand experience of a man who survived one of history’s darkest times.
  4. THANKS! So just so I understand, these 31 moves are the intro to TTP? I will also contact Terry per @-ꦥꦏ꧀ ꦱꦠꦿꦶꦪꦺꦴ- recommendation since he teaches it.
  5. Oh shoot, well since I already practice FPCK, this does seem like a good step. Can I ask where I can learn Tao Tan Pai? I don't see the DVD's on Terry's website.
  6. Damo Mitchell - Need Advice

You practice Flying Phoenix too right? So the system you linked can be combined with FPCK(as long as its spaced 3-4 hours apart)?
  7. Damo Mitchell - Need Advice

If I'm reading into this correctly, is it meant to be understood as, Damo's program is not so good for the body? I read a few reports from students who had mostly good things to say about the program, but they do all say that some postures are pretty painful and you gotta hold them for a while, and overall the course is not easy because it has you holding these postures for a while(most recommend 2 hours per day in his courses) and it slow grind of I believe 5-8 years? Or something like that. I asked chatGPT(take that as you will) what the point of these kind of practice is for, and chat said that Damo's program has you start at the foundations before doing any energy work, and that foundation with the uncomfortable long hold postures is the equivalent to upgrading the entire electrical grid and wiring of a house(but instead its your body) so that it can sustain and hold a lot more current/voltage. I do like the idea of upgrading your wires to hold more current. Is there any other system besides Damo's one can achieve this?

EDIT: NVM found the answer to my question. Only question I cannot find is: I know there is a 3 hour rule between FPCK and any other spiritual system. What about lifting/going to the gym? I know immediately after doing FPCK, Terry suggests light activities like walking/cleaning. After finishing FPCK, after 90m passed can I go hit the gym without causing any conflict with the QI generates from the practice? My normal morning routine is gym at 9:00AM Right now I wake up about 6:30, and start FPCK around 6:50 and usually done by 7:20(still my first week so not trying to go crazy). So if my session is over at 7:20 can I still hit the gym at 9am or do I have to wait till a minimum till 10:20?

Thank you for all your help people. I ordered 2nd DVD set. And thank you @BigSkyDiamond for the guidelines/routine explanation. So I have a question regarding the 2nd dvd and the guidelines, it has a movement/meditation just for sleep. I do struggle with sleep, for those of you who have done this movement, how long before bed is it reccomended to do? Like does it have to be right before bed, or 1-3 hours? And regarding the gudelines where it says to stick to 1 seated and 1 standing movement, I'm assuming you can do multiple sets of the same movement right? Because 1 movement is about 5 min, so I'm assuming you can do 4-6 sets so you get a 30m practice out of it?
  10. Newbie just got flying phoenix dvd

Hello all ! Wonderful to be here! I live in SoCal so I may in time see if I can find other FP practioners if I feel like I need in person guidance. But besides that, thank you for having me!
  11. Flying Phoenix Chi Kung

Yes most defiantly. I didn't even know there were seated exercises! But I only got the first DVD, which is all standing meditation I believe. I see the 2nd DVD has seated. Can I jump to that one then? For the record, this is my first week with qi gong ever in my life so I'm 100% a noob.

Thank you. And just to clarify, what about regular normal meditation? Would I still have to space that out a few hours after doing FPCK? And 1 more question if you don't mind plz: Will I still get benefits out of the practice(generating and circulating qi) if I do nothing else than the 1st move? The first move is just a static hold of monk gazing at the moon. The issue for me, is at the moment I am rehabbing my lower back. Not so much an injury, but I had surgery last year and was inactive for a very long time. The result is, my glutes/hips/core don't fire when they need to so my lower back takes the brunt of the load. It's not so much an injury as a neuromuscular issue that needs to be retrained which I am doing. So the issue is, on the 2nd movement of bending the bows, staying in that horse stance causes a lot of discomfort and some pain to my lower back, again because probably my glutes and hips aren't firing correctly so my lower back is taking the brunt of the load. I have 3-5 weeks left of physical therapy, so till then I will only be doing the 1st move which is monk gazing at moon, will I still experience some benefits from this move only ?

Hey folks, I'm on day 2 of the practice. So first question I have is, can I do void meditation practice while I practice FP? I know they say don't mix multiple systems together, I am not sure its even considered a system, but the only other thing I do is void meditation. Is it ok to do this with FP system, and if so how long should it be spaced apart from each other? EDIT: Also regarding breathing, there is a guided breathing at the start of the exercise/movement. But afterwards, do you breathe normally(nose only) during the performing sets of the movement?
