  1. Atheism as a religion

Where do ism's come from any way?
  2. Atheism as a religion

I am sorry Marblehead, I can not resist the temptation to bring theism back to the cutting edge of science. No quite right, Atheism is a Greek rooted word with a Sanskrit prefix. That aside Atheism has nothing to do with the Higgs Boson what so ever. Here is a photo of the epitaph to Nataraja siva infront of one of the stations at the CERN particle accelerator ... I wonder why he is there?

Hello Zhongyongdaoist The interesting thing about the Higgs Boson, other than its reflections at certain power amplitudes, implying the existence of deeper pattern or reflection. The parallel with Akash tattva is in its nature, in certain ancient tantra (doctrine), the universe is said to emanate from the simple sound vibration that is akash vibrating; it is the fabric which binds everything together. The Higgs boson is said to have been in particle form at the time of the big bang and is now the underlying fabric upon which material nature is bound; A Striking similarity ... I am not familiar with Aristotle, I must do some more reading, formal cause sounds similar to the idea of karma ... translated into Latin as Carmen, which is now translated into English as blood. Curious are the vaults of history indeed, their very nature reflect upon our own actions as if events were liquid and happenings just ripples on a pond. Thank you for your thoughts.

I love the point that you mentioned about poets; I must look into that further ...

With all due respect, if the formula is truly meaningless; perhaps you could try explaning to me how the micro processor in the plastic type writer shaped box upon which we are communicating is working in plain English. Those meaningless equations are a mathematical short hand for the explanation that you are about to give ...
  6. Atheism as a religion

We are looking out at the universe through giant telescopes in a very linear single silted way, and 80% of the universe is apparently missing. I chose to name the missing part the flying spaghetti monster ... I know that it is there because I can feel it in my gut.

The relevance to the conversation is very simple. The scientific axioms of today's economic/science paradigm can only see one band of light and is trying to look deeper and deeper into that band. without realizing the fundamental flaw in basing perception of reality on the result of the physical senses rather than the senses them selves, or at the very least their distortion; A kin to the ego being the photon detector.

Ahhh, you are blessed to have found a great teacher; I think this is simply the essence of what it means to be human, to my mind any way.

Hello Rara, The quantum slit experiment is a demonstration of the rather peculiar goings on at a microscopic scale in our universe, by that I mean smaller than is perceivable to the naked eye, with an average degree of conciseness; this is also apparent at a larger scale; if you know where and how to look, but that tangent is for another day. The experiment is set up as follows; a laser light is placed in front of a photographic plate, a sheet of non translucent material is placed between the plate and the laser and a tiny slit is cut into the material, so that a single band of laser light is formed on the plate on the other side. Another sheet of the same material is then taken, this time with two parallel slits in it instead of one, and the first sheet replaced. The slits are sufficiently close together as to fall inside the perimeter of the circle that is the lasers dot, or otherwise said, the region where the photon from the laser might pass when pointed at the photographic plate behind. Now when light passes through the two slits together, many lines appear on the photographic plate as the light from each slit interacts as waves in water to create a striped pattern of interference. A quick recap; one slit = one band. two slits = multiple band wave interference. Grey filters are placed in front of the laser at a thickness such that only one photon of light manages to get through the filters roughly every 30 seconds. The machine is switched on with the single slit filter and a new photographic plate and many images are shot, each taking a progressively longer exposure time to show how the particle hits build up over time to form a single stripe. The experiment is then repeated with the double slit filter in front replacing the single slit, and the same shots are repeated to show what happens. Now here is the crux of the conundrum, if only one particle travels through the slit at a time there is surly no interference, right? Well the reality is that the photons behave as if all the light were passing through the slit at the same time. Giving the following results. There is an issue with time here, a serious one. The next point is that we might try to place a photon detector on the slit to see through which slit the photon passes each time one is emitted from the laser with grey filters; the thing is that when this is done the wave interference patter collapses and only two single strips are produced on the plate again as if there were no interference as is the case with only one slit. The famous cat of Mr Schrödinger's, is a thought experiment and paradox based entirely upon this very real scientific experiment and its resulting paradox. This is the underlying nature of the fabric of our reality, as science understands it today ... Essential to all other sciences.
  11. I was thinking more along the lines of drinking water, but that is a very good point; draft is a vital consideration!

on a creme brulee we confide, are you certain? I just like the crunch.
  13. I like to make the analogy to sailing a boat; We have free will to sail wherever we like, but if we don't understand the elements it is going to be tough, tides charts stars sun moon almanac. We can sail up wind and against the tide, but you had better have learned well before doing so. One hand on the tiller the other on the main sheet, and you are free to do what ever you like ... Did you first check the weather, the stars and the charts, how much water do you have? The bhagavadgita makes the analogy to a chariot and horses with a passenger, in a war against ones own senses and self; I shall not eloborate here.

Oh you are quite welcome, I love discussing all of this and the nature of that. Physics a passion of mine also. Are you familiar with the quantum slit experiment to which I have made reference? Your response seems to imply to me that perhaps you are not familiar; my argument depends upon it. As does modern Physics. Interestingly enough, the recently found "Higgs Boson" is proof of Ākāśa tattva, a fundamental concept of Jyotish shastra. (please forgiver me my tangental thought, I am a very non linear person; I actually find writing very difficult to such an extent that If I had no spell check and this was hand written; you would think that I am a child and I would be to embarrassed to send a message.)

I didn't draw the conclusion from that sentence; to my mind it is obvious that this is the case, so I didn't see the necessity. I have also commented on neuro transmitters that are made in the Gut (though I don't remember where). There is a simple experiment that you can or anyone else can conduct, if you have doubts as to your stomachs link to your mind and thought; very low budget science so no funding is required ... try a fast, I'll bet you struggle to make 3 days.

Energy is everything, thanks to Mr Einstein we have good proof of this; expressed most eloquently in his famed equation E=mc². It is no far stretch of the imagination to relate this to an electric field generator a current and a signal ... Well my only point here was to show that the heart has a function other than pumping blood, and I though this might entice the curious reader into watching the rather fascinating documentary that was inserted in post. There is one particularly interesting experiment documented, all very scientific, in which test subjects are rigged up and monitored as they watch a progression of images upon a screen, the Heart brain and adrenal responses are monitored; it was found that the heat reacts before the brain in activating a response to perceived danger, this certainly puts into question the phrase "My heart is what pumps my blood. That's all a heart does for anyone. All the concept work is done in the brain." As here it would appear that the heart has made a decision for the subject being monitored. It is arguably the brain that the martial artist switch's off, this beggs the question; with what is He/She acting and reacting?

Do you not notice the "boxed" implication of this statement? To my mind, a kin to opening Schrodinger's box and proclaiming that "Lucky", Schrodinger's favorite Cheshire cat, is alive and grinning; Blissfully ignorant of the system upon which his health depends. More seriously, as I have already mentioned in a post, I think in this thread, the empirical evidence that science demands is to my mind, rather like the photon detector demanding to be intensified so as to better know the world; whilst examining the single stripe of light on the photographic plate and pondering all the while as to where the other 80% of that experimantal universe is is. Where as the more sensitive detector can just plain see the waves, with out asking for proof that matter exists as a block. delta t is physics's big slip up; a Jyotisa studies it. Here we go again; another sweeping statement once again with no proof; the soul is measurable; this is exactly what a Jyotisa does. Kind regards.

... Now the doctrine that relates the mind to the heart, in Jyotish, is highly complex it involves a deep understanding of both Jyotish vedanga and tantra . The mathematics behind this are simply beautiful, you will need to read the bṛhatpārāśarahorāśāstra with a Guru; to really get the picture. I can only hope this serves to remove any thought of credulity, that you may have felt whilst reading my posting.

Ok first things first, which science are you referring? I have drawn a parallel between the vedanga that I am being taught by my teacher (guru) and neuro science. Which side were you feeling least comfortable with, The Vedanga Jyotish and yoga or was it the modern science, specifically neuro endocrinology , neuro science and neuro epigenetics.?. here is a picture of the Sinoatrial Node; the bundle of neurons in the heart. They are why ECG machines work at a distance and we can start the heart with a current when stopped. (as an interesting side note; fractal mathematics are used to analyze the field produced by this node of neurons; to detect the onset of a heart attack) http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/biology/sanode.html https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrical_conduction_system_of_the_heart We will also need to understand the concept of Neuro epiginetics; are you familiar with this at all? http://www.nature.com/neuro/journal/v13/n11/full/nn.2668.html http://www.nature.com/neuro/journal/v13/n11/full/nn1110-1299.html You will have to join the dots there yourself. Now the doctrine that relates the mind to the heart, in Jyotish, is highly complex it involves a deep understanding of both Jyotish vedanga and tantra .
  23. Everyone owns Everything

Nice post The Tao Of Alex, I feel just a little more precision necessary; That this view held by Songtsan, be similar to the Advaita viewpoint of Advaita Vedanta; as opposed to Dvaita or any other of the many schools Vedanta. A rather complicated set of systems, worthy of study if one has the time. I would urge Songtsan to consider doing so; especially as he has expressed an interest in Sanskrit; this would help channel his apparent wayward energy.

How would you define Wu & Yo, in relation to Yin and Yang, are one pair contained within the other, or is there another way to see them?
  25. Atheism as a religion

Hey, you dont need to say a word; I thought that you might find it interesting. I loved your info on "Wu" & "Yo", I didn't have time to mention this morning. This is all new language for me, about similar ideas so it is quite fascinating; Are they perhaps similar to objective and subjective thought, or maybe closer to material non material; I am intrigued.
