  1. I would post some kung fu stuff if people would be interested in reading it. I've only been doing internal wing chun for about 4 years so I'm no expert, but the ideas of my teachers are quite valuable imo. It would be nothing stylistic but more about alignments and certain ideas/intent that makes things work. There is really not a lot of that stuff on the internet. I tend to see more stuff on forms and not what to actually think about or accomplish in the forms.
  2. Relying On No-one But Yourself

I think so. Bouncing from the pressure of civilisation creates a higher potential for the appreciation of stress free living. It's like if you live somewhere peaceful then take a holiday to a busy city you feel that difference moreso when you get home. It's a good lesson on perspective.
  3. the water method meditation question

Yeah just don't try to dissolve them. Let them dissolve.
  4. Videos you like.

That 24 form wasn't that great actually. It lacked internal cohesion. Eg: issuing from the arms rather than the root. It looked pretty though.
  5. Immortals

Crazy for prog rock is a good kind of crazy
  6. Is there a concept like "karma" in Taoism?

Yeah I don't believe in a "cosmic law". It doesn't make sense. There is only ever a difference of potential and the effect it results in.
  7. Is there a concept like "karma" in Taoism?

Don't you think that the cause and effect is both within yourself though? Every bad action has an effect on yourself deep down. If I punch someone for no reason they will be in pain for maybe a few days, but deep down within myself the effect will be long lasting.
  8. Videos you like.

I quite like this as something a bit different. It's clear that he has a high level of skill.
  9. Performed Aerobic Tu Na(吐吶) for Thirty Years

Sounds a lot like swimming underwater, or at least the way I do it which is primarily down the bottom of the pool most of the time. I do feel quite good after that. It's indeed hard to relax under that pressure but once you get used to it your body lets go a fair bit. 这个好放松 . I think it's a good technique provided that it's building relaxation rather than tension (anything like this must be a good technique). This should be obvious in the presence of a teacher.
  10. What is Nei Gong(什麼是內功)?

I like that internal training improves every type of strength without having to train each separately. I can sort of do the effortless stuff sometimes, but if all else fails I've got a lot more brute force strength merely because everything is working together rather than relying on segmented muscle groups.
  11. What is Taoism? (Seriously)

"Harmony with nature" is misunderstood as being to do with trees and stuff. It's more to do with relaxing into everything whether it be man-made or not. I just see Taoism as a means of refinement. In essence I think of it as ANY path that leads towards the Tao, whether it aims to get all the way or not.
  12. Dongshan's Question

    Isn't everything?
  13. Intellectualism is for wimps

It's the veil of understanding. Not direct perception. You can read in a book that you have a hand but unless you see it and feel it then for all intents and purposes you don't have a hand. What deci keeps trying to do by banging her head against the wall it to take it further than that by pointing towards the inconceivable. I understand your issue with that, since it pretty much goes against everything we're taught in life. I have heard one person on this forum mention a process of starving the conscious mind and feeding the unconscious mind. Perhaps that would resonate with logical thinking. It's a different kind of intellect, and I think that upon observation it should be clear that the subconscious mind can do all its functions autonomously without the normal thinking process. Upon observation it should also become clear that a lot of our thought is superfluous as the subconscious process of many day-to-day functions does not require it. For example you will notice that uncomplicated decision making is not a conscious thought process. You will probably also notice that even though you know that you can do things subconsciously your conscious mind will still try and hold control. This is an important observation.
  14. Intellectualism is for wimps

Intellect is to set the path. It's not the destination. Let go of the false and only the true will remain. What is there to think about?
  15. The thing with tai chi is that you drop your energy down such that you can bounce or back up again from under the ground. Sounds similar. The aim is to have continual downward relaxation such that the down and up are balanced and on all the time. Or in other words the gap between the down and up gets smaller until you can issue energy instantaneously.
  16. Any other Anime fans out there?

Neon Genesis was always very good. Have been reading Freezing which is a bit of a ripoff but I still like it. Elfen Lied is probably among my favourites. Death Note and Gantz I'd put in the same category. Both are really good. I read typical mangas like Naruto, Fairy Tail, Beelzebub etc. Kind of wish they'd hurry up and finish. Strongest disciple Kenichi is still good for me. If you want to read a funny hentai manga check out Oretama. It starts out funny then kind of dies at the end. A more toned down version (more ecchi) would be something like Princess Lucia although I don't think it's as good. Nyotai-ka started out similarly funny as well. Was interesting because it's different to the normal high schooler with super powers. There's so much good stuff out there.
  17. How do you "live in the moment"

Read up on Bankei. He explains the "unborn" which is what you're after.
  18. Do you live by your ideals/values?

That would result in a feeling of power I guess, but true power would be accepting your circumstances as a snapshot in time and then not acting upon the desire. Repressing emotion is not good from my viewpoint, so in order to reign in on it you can just treat it like one of those friends that you have but choose never to visit. You can look at the other side of the coin and see it like being thrown in a pool in order to learn how to swim. Amidst the chaos you settle and eventually it turns around and becomes a different thing altogether. Good luck with your journey. Follow your ideals. That is true strength.
  19. Water Method of Taoist Meditation - Questions

I don't think he charges too much at all. http://www.energyarts.com/events. It's not like he's doing workshops all the time either, and as far as I'm aware he doesn't do public classes anymore. Also, it might be an idea to rethink your ideas on material wealth. You could be the wealthiest person on the planet but if you aren't attached to the money then you are in no way going against Taoist ideals. We can't really judge whether someone is attached to wealth on face value. I did a qigong weekend with him last year and it was well worth it. I felt a notable increase in energy by the end. He does a lot of talking but when you get down to doing it he is incredibly skilled at making sure people are doing it right.
  20. Creative writing thread

But all they are all there scraping along to sneeze out a likelihood that will solve and salve life's robulous rebus
  21. Avoiding takedowns & then ... other videos.

Jim Fung apparently had a good 1 inch punch. In this vid it's still a push though. In a real situation the force would not go through the person. If your intent is inside the person the force will go there and they won't go flying back but rather drop straight to the ground in agony. The others linked leave a lot to be desired. Even the Bruce Lee one.
  22. Deceived...

Years ago I thought I'd stop showing off because it was an ego thing. Then years after that I realised I was trying to impress my ego by doing so. It's another one of those things like mountains are mountains, mountains are not mountains, and then mountains are mountains again. I'm back to the beginning where I could be perceived as showing off but I generally don't show off all that much. Example: Some people show off by talking about their impressive job and it makes them feel elevated. I am quite unimpressed by the fact that I'm an electronics engineer (although some people are impressed for whatever reason) and so when I tell people what I do it's neither here nor there. Actually, that's another point. If you aren't impressed by pointless things then that's less fuel for the fire.
  23. What did meditation do to me? Please read...

If you have no thoughts or emotions then it should be easy enough to do proper meditation now. Have you tried? Honestly you have the perfect conditions for meditation at the moment. Go within and find the answer. When you figure it out it will seem like it should have been obvious all along.

  25. What is potential in terms of Taoist practices?

The magnitude of potential is in the difference between something and a reference point. Some people are using Self as a reference and some aren't. Big difference. Potential referenced to self or worldly aspects is straight forward. Otherwise it isn't. I believe you have to find that reference before it will make sense.
