"When plants are alive, they are soft and supple.

When they die, they become brittle and dry.

When a human being is born, he is tender and weak.

At death, he become hard and stiff.

Therefore, the hard and the stiff are students of death,

While the soft and the gentle are students of life."

i found some of my favourite quotes to add...

We do not possess an 'ego'.

We are possessed by the idea of one.

* * *

All the evil in the world, and all the unhappiness, comes from the I-concept.

* * *

A myriad bubbles were floating on the surface of a stream.

'What are you?' I cried to them as they drifted by.

'I am a bubble, of course' nearly a myriad bubbles answered,

and there was surprise and indignation in their voices as they passed.

But, here and there, a lonely bubble answered,

'We are this stream', and there was neither surprise nor indignation in their voices,

but just a quiet certitude.

* * *

Not the Tao but still a good quote...

"I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it."

' It is not through power in which water cuts through rock,

but with persistance '

Unsure of author. ( Doesn't exactly quote that way either, but close too. )

' Tao never does;

Yet through it

All things are done. '

Tao Teh Ching

Simplicity is truely amazing.

as the shadow follows the body, as we think so we become.

-Buddha

Reminds me of a fav, and apologies if it's said already:

"You are not what you think you are, but what you think, you are."

...which led me to find:

"If your thinking is brilliant, then you will be brilliant; but if your thinking isn't brilliant then you will not be brilliant no matter how brilliant you think you are."

Is swearing/cussing meant to be some form of higher-level practice? You know what I mean... ;)

You think you need

And when you think more than you want

Your thoughts begin to bleed.

A couple of my faves,

"My body is a temple and a nightclub too" I think that might have been Baba Ram.

"All things in moderation, including moderation itself" This one probably goes back a long way but the last time I came across it The Barefoot Doctor used it.

These maybe more relevant today as there will be lots of nightclubbing and immoderate behavior tonight!

Do not go gentle into that good night,

Old age should burn and rave at close of day;

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
