Opening the Heart Chakra

Recommended Posts

At my old kungfu school about a month ago, the teacher told me that the way the light was hitting me, he could see my aura. He said,"I can see that your heart chakra is opened. This means that you are basically a good person, but when I look at your crown, I see something towering over you, like someone is protecting you. Did someone in your family die when you were young?" I said nobody that I remember other than my Grandmother's brother, who people say I resemble, when I was 5.

I left it at that...I have not really looked into what he said to me because I assumed chakras dealt with kundalini practices. I'm interested in Taoism where they talk about the tantiens and chi. It is two roads to the same path, but as a beginner, I don't want to get too confused and too frustrated. I thought I would seek a few opinions.

If anyone asks, I've never done any Qigong or any other sort of energy work. I was raised in the Church and nearly became a pastor before I started asking questions that most people in my church could not answer. So if this is some common trait in spiritual people, well, It would make sense...but any explanation other than that...well, I guess that's why I'm asking now.

The channels in most energy systems overlapse. in tantra they are interested in raising the kundalini energy up from the root of the spine through the chakras and into the brain. The taoist microcosmic orbit raises the energy up the spine into the brain and down the front of the body. (touch the tongue to the palate on the roof of the mouth to complete the orbit)

the chakras are just points on the spinal channel. most chakra systems include 7 chakras. The root, sacral, solar plexus, heart, throat, third eye, and the crown. Chakra means energy center.

The heart chakra is usually associated with emotions, love and compassion. so it being open would mean that you possess those qualities.

as for the guardian spirit, you could try praying to it.

kung fu is a zen martial art and would probably have more in common with taoism than traditional buddhist tantra. You should ask your teacher he would probably be able to help you in your taoist practice.

Thanks for your reply, Tony. I have since left that school of kungfu. I don't want to say anything bad about the teacher or the school, so I will just say that perhaps it is not meant for me to study that style. I have been hanging out with some people learning Tai Chi, but no one is a teacher and it's not a school--just people hanging out. I enjoy it. Unfortunately there is not much to choose from with regard to any Chinese Martial Arts in Nashville.

prince,

chakras are metaphors for states of consciousness. don't get too caught up in where they are as this can lead to bodily attachment. heart chakra = love. selflessness.. etc

Nope. They are real. Their location IS important. You say don't get caught up with location, but they ARE WHERE THEY ARE. Just like the physical organs in the body.

Stop hating yourself. Aversion is as much an issue as attachment. Whatever issues you have, you will not deal with them by running away from them, denying them. Face them and let them go.

Best,

Mike

lol, ok wise guru. i don't hate myself, and i'm not running away from anything.

i am what my teacher taught me. and what she teaches makes a lot more sense than attaching to bodily locations.

so whats my issue? believe whatever you want though, and attach to whatever you want. but don't tell me I have issues, lol. i'm sure I do, but i don't pretend to be a guru and give people unwanted advice. get off your high horse, making you old doesn't make you smart.

here is what my teacher wrote to someone asking about chakras.. someone who was obviously very attached to this idea of chakras this chakra that. totally missing that these locales point to states of consciousness and it is the state that is more important than this physical location

G oh First off let go of this idea about chakras. One traverses mental

constructs and layers of consciousness. The body simply resonates in

various places to specific holdings of the mind. But the sooner you

can let go of the ideas about chakras and body the better and easier it

will be to traverse these things. The more Body identification wrapped up

with the ME - the more solid the mooring of a ME story. You are NOT the

body - just like you are NOT your car. It is a vehicle.

the bold parts are complete unfiltered bullshit, look at all of your posts since you've come back - ALL OF THEM are giving UNWANTED ADVICE about how we are attached to this or that or how bliss is bad and how your teacher knows it all.

this is the same person who not that long ago told me he'd prefer to indulge in sex rather than master it and overcome it.

look at this for example

prince,

chakras are metaphors (funny in all i've read about chakras i've never seen them as metaphors) for states of consciousness. don't get too caught up in where they are as this can lead to bodily attachment. (have you mastered your body?) heart chakra = love. selflessness.. etc

have you opened your heart chakra? if not, how would you know? because your teacher said so? yes, because your teacher said so. you're like a broken tape machine just constantly reiterating what your teacher says. there are people on this forum even that have had heart chakra experiences to validate that they are very real and not just a state of consciousness. while i respect you and your teacher you have to stop trying to preach her doctrine as if it's all that is and all that there will ever be.

Mantis,

I wasn't talking to you, but since you insist on butting in..

i am making conversation and offering my opinion, i'm not personally telling people what they should or shouldn't do. i'm not saying Mantis, you're an idiot for buying into some supposed mystic who lived in the 50s and calls his new age blabbery "gnostic christianity" and tells you that you have to have sex to be enlightened.. no i'm not saying that at all. you are free to do whatever you want, buddy :)

and never said i'd prefer to indulge in sex, but that does sound nice. nothing to overcome for me, everything is good

how would you know? because your teacher said so? yes, because your teacher said so. you're like a broken tape machine just constantly reiterating what your teacher says.

wait wait, this is coming from someone who was dogmatic about needing sex for enlightenment when obviously you aren't enlightened. no.. i'm not dogmatic at all, i don't just blatantly accept teachings, only if they are true by my experience.

metaphor was probably the wrong word to use. oh well

you aren't an indulger? really?

sheepishlord and sean,

i completely agree.

i live by the quote by William Blake The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom.

i'm almost 22, but have already had lots of sex and jerked off so much to porn that i'm tired of all of it. in the past i'd get to the point where i'd jerk off atleast 3 times a day to porn and now i can watch porn without getting excited. so far i'm on day 11 but its really not that hard. i've never had nocturnal emissions either.

even though Cam has me on ignore, i feel you guys are absolutely correct in your assessment and advice.

although i disagree with you, Sheepish, about one thing. i don't know Cam that well, but about goals i feel that attaining god-realization is the highest goal one can have.

mikaelz,

This is a public forum, so there is no 'butting in'. You want private dialogue you take it to email or private messages. Anyone here is entitled to share their opinion, just like you. We don't have to agree-in fact most of the debate around here would be pretty boring if everyone did. The argument can be quite enlightening, if a person is prepared to listen.

I wonder if you will ever get the point I've been making. I thought I'd been clear enough, but it seems not.

Age is not the issue, but maybe you bring it up to avoid the point.

EXPERIENCE

That is the issue. You continue to make statements of 'truth', but you then say, 'I am just saying what my teacher told me'.

You say I'm on my high horse simply because I disagree with you, but I can back up my disagreeing with experience. You don't like that.

Yes, I've been doing stuff related to this almost as long as you've been alive. That alone is not the issue. The fact I've had some fairly interesting EXPERIENCES is, I think.

We are never going to agree, and that is OK. Everyone has their own life to lead. I wish you the very best in yours. However, if you are going to make blanket statements that I disagree with on this public forum, I am going to comment that based on my EXPERIENCE you are wrong.

I'm not contradicting you because I need to prove my point. I have no doubts regarding what I am practising. It has taken me a long time to reach this point, but there it is. I contradict you because you make your blanket statements, you have lack the experience to back them up and never say your source of your information until you get questioned on its validity.

Frankly, you can go ahead on your merry path, and I wish you the best of luck, but I will not stand by and let your comments stop other people pursuing a certain way simply because you don't like it.

I'm afraid it isn't just your playpen my friend. Do try to play nice and not get personal. The only person who loses is you.

Best,

Mike

P.S. I hope you do look at the issue of aversion and attachment, because you are clearly attached to escaping who and where you are. You will need to deal with this aversion to yourself if you are going to ever release your attachment to attaining 'oneness'. We are all in the same boat, so there is no need to get all prickly about this :) .

Nope.

I say you're on the high horse because you come off as the wise sage who walked down from his mountain retreat to give this poor peasant some much needed guidance. But that wasn't necessary nor asked for. Though your opinion I have read carefully, i don't think it applies to me at all. i'm not trying to escape anything, nor do you make any sense.. i think you're just trying to sound like you know something I don't.

Having experience is great, experience is everything. But really.. just because you had an experience of feeling chakras in your body does not mean that is the end all of truth. why would you stop there and assume that there isn't a bigger picture? this isn't escapism, its not being tied down to limiting concepts.

Frankly, you can go ahead on your merry path, and I wish you the best of luck, but I will not stand by and let your comments stop other people pursuing a certain way simply because you don't like it.

lol oh get real man. what are you a super hero? such a noble quest you're on

lets see you reply and try to sound all wise, humble, and enlightened again while totally ignoring the points i make

ciao, wise one

What are you guys doing?

Had I known that it was gonna cause an arguement, I would have kept my question to myself. ::sheesh::

Anyway, I have always been a bit sensitive, and always have empathized with other folks. I always thought that was just the way I was born or something. Anyway, when I was told that my heart chakra was opened, I thought, oh well...maybe that explains why I am the way I am. I just wondered how, when I have never done any type of energy work...none that I know about, at least.

It is okay to have a difference of opinion, but when you've been practicing for a long time and someone new comes along with lots of questions, you shouldn't show out in front of them. It's like the kungfu school I had been attending. I love kungfu. I have not studied long, but I take it seriously.

A lot of the senior guys were learning things that I had to wait to learn and they did not take it seriously...they were sloppy in a lot of the basics that we were supposed to practice everyday...so when they came to give me advice, well, I did not want to listen...and well, I lost interest in that particuliar school...why should I bust my ass for something that is gonna be handed out just for attending?

Oh well, sorry for my rant!

Its ok to rant. I would like to bring up somethings about that school.

Don't deny the school just because of its issues students or even teachers display just work to make sure you do not display the issues of students or teacher. Bad teachers purposely lead you astray. I've been there don't that, its not happy :(.

There is nothing wrong with the senior guys, there problems reflect there practice and ability, which also reflect there teachers. If you really want to learn Kungfu, you would make that school work. Although that doesn't mean that there aren't better choices at your disposal. (which i suggest to go for the best of course)

Personally I would be respectful of senior students as i am to teachers, listening to what they have to offer. Weather there ability reflects it or not if they have a gem for you in knowledge it can help you greatly! Its worth much to keep it rather then throw it away just because the senior students don't reflect there own advice in practice. Attempt to let go of your thoughts while in practice or ubstructions when practicing your practicing to learn. If you feel your teachers aren't really educating your and your seniors thats a different story but you still then can learn to strive in that sort of environment. (although personally i wouldn't even want to)

What are you guys doing?

We are having a discussion. This is a public forum, not a private conversation. Don't worry about it. It is only as big a deal as you allow it to be.

Had I known that it was gonna cause an arguement, I would have kept my question to myself. ::sheesh::

It wasn't your question. This is an ongoing debate. Your question didn't start it nor will it likely be the end of it.

I don't know. Honestly I would say don't worry about it.

It is okay to have a difference of opinion, but when you've been practicing for a long time and someone new comes along with lots of questions, you shouldn't show out in front of them.

It pertains to wider issues of belief. On matters of belief there are often strong opinions. That is part of life.

It's like the kungfu school I had been attending. I love kungfu. I have not studied long, but I take it seriously.

Be sincere rather than serious.

'Judge not that ye be judged'. What they are, or are not doing, isn't important. Same with advice. You can take it or leave it. Something Mikaelz and myself are fully in agreement with is the importance of not being attached to things. Let it come and let it go. It's all a learning experience.

Oh well, sorry for my rant!

Rant away. Sincere feelings are good. Just don't get bogged down in them. Let them come and go as is the way of life.

Best,

Mike

Well this thread seems to have gotten rather heated!

All I can say is that any system that is not disposable will probably end up doing more harm than good. Imagine all your knowledge and wisdom was made of ice and the sun came out, wouldn't all those ideas simply return to their true nature?

Hey lets all just flow.
