Most EFFECTIVE form of Meditation?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

This has been on my mind for a while what do you think is the most benifical and effective form of meditation?

Do they all lead to the same place at the end or completely different?

1 Stillness/Emptiness

2 Visualization chakras, dan tians, gods, deities, kunalini

OR

3 A mixture of both Visualization and stillness

Any comments?

WYG

P.S i probly left out other meditations just add them in!!!

hi WYG,

has it ever occured to you that the most effective form of meditation is the one suitable for you?

meditation is a cure for the mind.

if we look at how we cure the body, there are simmilar procedures:

for example, before you give a man his cure, you seek to see what imballancies and disease affects him.

then you look at his physical shape, is he in good shape, has he a good stomach to digest the cure, or should it be applied othewise, maybe injected?

each of us have a chanse at enlightment and immortality.

with what?

with no more than what life puts in your way. what you attract.

to find the best method, is to know how you function.

the method is just an algorithm. there are many, and there will ever be many more invented.

because the methods were conceived for the man, not the man conceived for the methods.

it you are a martial artist, you would love seeing the movie "The Silent Flute".

im sure this question will be adressed for millenia to come, this is my small contribution for it.

good luck

In my limited experience, the most effective meditation seems to change with phases. Sometimes I can really hit nice empty states, but the next day or week the same procedure yields just rambling thought.

Mantra in the morning outloud vibrates the system and often allows for a smoother, sometimes blissful day. I read that this is "steaming. "

White skeleton I always get results from, you'd think I'd do it more often. I wonder if Yoda is still doing this meditation (as I read in earlier posts)

Dragon fire breath seems to get things going when not enough is happening.

Lately I've decided Bodri and Nan are wrong about micro-cosmic orbit circulation as being useless. I think that may be the case in the higher levels, but not where I am.

As for Kunlun, I cannot feel the immediate feedback as I can for the others, I think because the energy is more subtle.

I notice this forum people talk more about energy work rather than acheiving deep states. I wonder why that is.

I also wonder if anyone here does noting practice.

The way this kid was taught

there is only one kind of meditation

one word for it is "Emptiness".

Though in meaning it is so much more! :D

All other "meditations" are Pre-meditations

leading one to that state

of "beginning/ending simultaneously" (i.e. emptiness.)

The best form of meditation, as others here had said,

Is what's right for the individual.

What works at that moment, at that place and time.

Could it be otherwise?

Hi Rain!

That is a good question.

That is a confusing questions

because so much of the answer depends on the the circumstances.

sometimes yes. sometimes no.

Mostly it would depend on the moment.

*also on the action/s.

*Also when doing such work usually the "shaman" has one to help them/protect/guide/play/etc.

often an animal/person/spirit/ etc. that could take the form of the creatures you mentioned.

*Also depends on linage just as in taoism or martial arts there are tangled-up

linage's(that can make you crazy!) what's right in one the other will disagree with,

they may do things in totally opposite ways to get the same results!

*Also it comes down to the individual! Each person will learn different techniques

depending on their own experiences and what's needed.

There is so much more to it but for now...

If He goes into studying the Aborigines or native folks of any land,

The techniques used are at the ROOT all the same overall.

They do get embellished along the way

but to see beyond that the similarities are amazing!

Peace all

Well you ask so many questions that I think your mind soon has to be empty.Maybe thats the most effective way

The most effective way you have to find for yourself.people react diffrent on diffrent methods. But the only thing that matters is to find the way that are slowing down or stopping the mind most effectively for you.so you should try the basic methods like watching the breath, mantra, zen, white skeleton visualization or other visualization methods and vipassana.and yes they will all lead to samadhi, and from there I am not sure.but you dont need to worry about that yet.But it is a lot of work to test them all out.If you dont wanna do that I would go for Buddas method, watcihng the breath.

The meditation that helps you set up the conditions to notice that which already IS - the Natural State or Innate Nature.

Sitting stillness meditation, in my experience, is best for that. Shamatha then Insight. Still, relaxed but focused mind, that allows one to see directly the nature of mind. Energy work may or may not help expedite these conditions for realization.

In kind regards,

Adam.

What are you looking for?

What are the goals you wish to achieve through meditation?

I think you have phrased the question wrong - in my view there is no such thing as a "most benificial and effective form of meditation."

Your goals (or lack of goals) could help you determine the best path.

Dao meditation is well suited to those who practice internal Chinese arts, provided you can find the right teacher...

indeed.

;)

when folks ask me what i think is the best qigong set, i always tell them "the one that you will practice every day."

i think the same holds true for the most effective meditation.

Okay guys, i ask alot of questions some are very basic some are very deep depending on how you look at it. I ask these questions to start more threads rather just Kunlun, i think you all assume i have no idea and that is good i appreciate all your answers but i ask these questions to see what others are doing to see how my practices stand up to what is been taught out there.

So thanks for answering i should make it clearer that i do know the answers to what im asking just asking others what they feel and think is best.

I do take on board what others say as well and research what others are doing on the side of what i teach and practice.

Thanks for clearing that up. I think "best" is a flawed concept...

I currently practice Dao meditation regularly. It integrates well with my taiji.

Many other profound benefits as well that go beyond taiji practice but "best"? There is no such thing as "best"...
