If you ask for clarification they put you on their ignore list then create a new thread with the same thing posted. Just take a look at the Daoist discussion section, like half the threads there are created by them and if you look at the column on the right most of the last comments are posted by them. There is no escape.

I dont know who this refers to , but its an old time tactic of a specific individual ...  who targeted some in this very specific manner . It was  reported many times .  Then it turned into the reporter getting frustrated due to nothing being done about it .

They where probably banned .... but now there is this  'banned members returning as sock puppets'     ' thing'   going on  . Any questions about that just leads to more obscurity and cryptic comments / 'jokes?'  .

Shame its happening to Buddhist forum ..... it might end up going the way of the esoteric and occult  forum  - look at the abso crap thats been appearing in there .     Now compare it to the older post subjects  ..... that include learned and experience opinion / discussion .

I doubt peeps nowadays even know what     '  an Agrippa' is  .   Nor care about it .

And today's classic  ?

God help from Rev Billy Graham , via youtube    .... in an occult forum !

and

Which defeats the purpose of subforums in the first place - a focused and more indepth discussion relevant to the field of study, with the intent to contribute in honesty and with effort. Don't know if the subforums would be helped by separate moderators and/or guidelines of what belongs there and not, but some kind of sifting would do them good.

Where can these mods be found ?

to do the sifting.
For almost two years the mod team has been overwhelmed by a few members who continue to insult other members, refuse to show any due respect to members or staff.
And while mods have been trying to steady the site from the tumults of the past four years, that the same few and a few others refuse to let go of.

Not sure how many alternate universes you would travel to find a site meeting some expectations.

Sounds good though.

There used to be the concept of a sub-forum steward, but after the Buddha Bums wars were done, the need for such roles disappeared.

For sure, we can’t do everything for everyone. But I do notice that many of our members, especially the “damo army” have stopped being active ever since the member being referred to in the OP started with their contributions.

It's heartbreaking, always read explicitly that I'm better than you and everything you're doing is very wrong.

Even Lao Tzu is very bad

And that the Chunk turns into Chong and then into the dancing Chimp but you wouldn't understand that because of your low level.

The gibberish doesn't help either.

It really tires and I feel, however, that the subject deep inside himself believes that he is working for the good of the universe.

Sounds like a site that would require paid membership and offer moderators compensation for their sifting and moderation time.

Zerostao, I hope you didn't take this as an implicit criticism of you or moderators; you're all doing a thankless but important job.
But for example,  like Nungali already pointed out, the Esoteric Subforum is a mess, and I wouldn't classify most of the threads there as being relevant to classic Western paths. That being said, The Daobums has a history and a vibe to all the people who congregate here. Those seriously interested in Buddhism or the Western arts will go to outside forums that have the requisite specialists and people with experience there. This place isn't aimed at being a Swiss army knife nor a university of All, and I think most members are fine with it. For me, the reward has been the dialogue here--with a strong daoist bent of course--between eclectic people. But keeping that dialogue flowing requires rules, respect and moderation. So thanks for doing what must be done.

Unexplained Mysteries forum has mods for each each section , so did the defunct  Aeclectic Tarot forum , not pad membership nor paid mods , they are / where fairly large with huge active  membership though.

My history forum had one lone mod for a while , the owner was  and is mostly absent  ( sound familiar ), and that at times turned into a hot bed of rival national / ethnic fights ... some going back millenia !  *   Busy chap , he appointed some assistants  in the last few years .

* My Iranian friend told me this; he gets in a taxi and the ethnic looking driver turns around and stares at him : " Where are you from ?"

" Iran ... I am Persian. "

" I am Greek .   You know ....  Persians , they come to Greece , make a big war ! "

My friend :   ' Well, yeah , a few thousand years back !  "

:D

There is? Interesting… especially how you present this like it’s some sort of new mandate or something.

That isn’t presently a policy, although I see some members were discussing the possibility of it, as it related to the closing of another site.

A mandate is something officially sanctioned .  So it isnt that .

Well the feed of activity often reads more like a personal blog than a community site due to the spamming of one very dedicated user.

C'est la vie.

The 'ignore' feature doesn't really ignore the person, in fact it accentuates the posts in a manner by hiding only the text with a message in a special font, but leaving the post in the flow of conversation.

Far more effective I've found is to just scroll passed their contributions when reading... as the ignore feature is in action, more of a 'highlight hidden text' feature.

I wonder whether the ( already wonderfully detailed ) ignore function could be expanded with a button ' notifications'

for now I will put someone on 'ignore posts'

 ping...ping...ping

uhm

at the moment there are 4 possibilities to ignore

posts

messages

signature

mentions.

very nice setup btw

I would like a fifth possibility so that you could ignore notifications ( the bellthingie right upper corner) from a user of choice

If you click the 🔔 there is an option to click “notification settings” in the top right corner of the pop up menu. You can customize what notifications you receive but, as far as I can tell, any settings here affect all users. I don’t see a way to limit notifications from selected members.

Sorry

oi vey Nungali.. I recall ignoring this before, as it seemed so blatantly misdirecting.. must we always do this dance?

I don’t really care for the choreography.

And yes, we are aware of those who are claimed to be sock puppets by other members here.. without any direct evidence. Did you happen to actually have some evidence?
