Maybe. But again: it’s the spirit of the intent behind the humor. The OP, assuming he’s serious, has already made up his mind about his reality. It’s a low probability he will consider getting help like I mentioned earlier about dragon sickness.

Right... But genuine cultivators shouldnt laugh at the suffering of others (I think.) And the most helpful approach to treat delusion is compassionate concern. If that fails all you can do is empathize and/or disengage. Just my 2 cents

Humor and compassion don’t have to be mutually exclusive, nor do they necessarily imply that they are encouraging suffering. And likewise, this is just my 2 cents and experience (same currency I hope).

When my roommate who only spoke Spanish realized people were mocking the notion that he was Barack Obama, it was pretty hard to separate that from mocking him too. Either way it led to alienation and increased mania, depression, hostility

Have a look again at what I wrote.

I’m not even mocking the notion of him being a Buddha. I’m not disagreeing with his perception of reality. I’m just extending the implications of that reality until it’s funny(ish).

The end result is (hopefully) that a laugh is generated not at the expense of him as a person, or even at the expense of his perception of himself, but of the implication of his views taken to extreme.

It would be akin to telling your Obama friend that he’s not allowed to meet my grandma because his sheer charisma would charm her into an early grave.

And it’s not like I planned it all cleverly like that - I just want to generate a laugh in him - coz it’s the best outcome for him.

Genuine cultivators shouldn’t cause suffering.

If laughing at suffering causes more suffering then that would be unskilled.

If laughing about suffering causes a bit of lightness and levity then that’s probably the most skilled action you could take.

I can’t really discern skillful means from natural impulses to make light of something… I ll give you the benefit of the doubt.

However, the people in the hospital who indulged and/or made a mockery of the Obama fantasy were the staff who wanted to enjoy a laugh for themselves, or would rationalize that they were either trying to or actually helping my roommate by doing so. The only person who actually tried to help him were his social worker and one staff member who spoke Spanish… they did their best to talk to him where he was and give him whatever practical advice they could.

I don’t think us generating a laugh at his perception of reality is going to instill a similar effect in him. In which case the benefit/merit of generating a laugh loses its value and or becomes corrupted.

I know I’m being a Debbie downer but I ve seen this before and I don’t question people’s conscious intention but rather their situational awareness. Maybe I’m not one to do that… but my intuition seems to think it’s important 🤷🏼‍♂️

You are not a debbie downer, because we’d say bye Felicia long ago if that were the case. You’re fulfilling a necessary dialogue for consideration with a counterpoint that ultimately helps people reading this to learn and conclude from the dialogue style of rhetoric employed by Plato and other classic philosophers to show contrasting views before a synthesis and consensus is reached.

I remember when I was young, a fried crashed into a younger kid while skateboarding. The kid fell and started crying - so my friend started crying even louder - like he got hurt too.

The kid stopped in his tracks and as my friend’s cries got more and more ridiculous the kid started cracking up.

I still remember that to this day. I was so impressed by my friend’s skillful handling of that situation.

I believe if he showed a lot of concern, that would have solidified the pain and (very mild) trauma even more. Laughing it off was far healthier for the kid.

I appreciate the intent - but if you really think it's possible someone is having a psychotic break, is talking about it openly in front of them really the move to make?

Some serious breaking of the 4th wall going on here...

Now, when's this boss battle going to happen?

Ah, entertainment! Then you want more of a No More Heroes boss battle! Starts at 3:00, but the intro is totally worth it.

The joke was at the expense of your friend.

If you watch stand up comedy, a good comedian can joke about the darkest things - the biggest traumas and misfortunes or the worst human behaviour and impulses that we’re too scared to face… but they can construct a joke in such a way that it’s never at the expense of the victim - the laughter becomes a transcendent form of relief. Darknesses is dispelled.

Laughter is important and powerful if it’s not pointed and does not victimise someone.

Yes, laugh WITH someone, not AT them.

Reminds me of my friend who worked in human rights met with the Dalai Lama and talked about some particularly grisly case studies he was working on.

The Dalai Lama kept laughing at seemingly inappropriate moments. At the time my friend was really weirded out by it. But he eventually came to the conclusion that he may have trying to dispel negative energies through his sudden laughter. He never asked though, so doesn't know for sure.

I had posted earlier in 2020. I have achieved a new power now. I can control rain and clouds. I can attract heat or cold with regards to my own practice. I have become the Rainmaker. But to achieve this power was not easy. It took me 8 years. I have some more powers but it should be kept hidden. I guess I have become a Buddha. Thank you for reading.

If this is truly the case, my hat is off to you.  That is an incredible achievement.

The other alternative is that you have not sufficiently conquered excessive ego within, and it is getting in the way of your clarity.

A common sign of dragon sickness is believing you have control over reality. Self-assessment and lack of guidance can induce these beliefs, which ultimately show poor training and development.

Bruce, Almighty, let’s have some winning lottery numbers magically improve my bank account, even if I don’t even play the lottery. Come on Bruce; do this for me and I’ll believe in you...

I am sorry to inform you that, as an evil magician, I caused your lack of money, and everyone else's .  Too much silly spending in the world , I need to wipe it out .

I read a book that talked about an enlightened woman who couldn't stop laughing at all phenomena, be it positive or negative.  I do understand the laughing thing.  When you are in Awareness, you realize that everything unfolding before us is not real - that the only 'real' thing is this warmth inside us, this consciousness we are.  When you look at the world in that fashion, things can get pretty ridiculous.

Yes, still focusing on retention, since 2013. I would rather say a path of tantra than just "semen retention" and it is a tricky path, and you need to treat it with many different other techniques. However, it is the root path that awakens the superpower only if you do it correctly. First, it starts with the realization of "Nibbana" which I experienced last year. But it is the lay realization.

I am not joking, to write a false statement goes against my principle. The path is harmful only if you do it in the wrong way. But all those wrong methods will act as a ladder to the right method. I believe I am the only power walking this earth, there could be others too, but their powers are inferior. I would like to write one more thing that first you need to accomplish the basic practice before acquiring anything.

It is the same power that Padmasambhava realized at Yanglesho cave. "Powerful spirits caused a three year drought, with famine and disease, and Padmasambhava asked his teachers in India for a teaching to counter them."

It is the same power that Shakyamuni Buddha realized after awakening. "Then the thought occurred to me, 'This Alara Kalama is wise, competent, intelligent. He has long had little dust in his eyes. What if I were to teach him the Dhamma first? He will quickly understand this Dhamma.' Then devas came to me and said, 'Lord, Alara Kalama died seven days ago.'" (and Uddaka Ramaputta died last night.)

Things are deeper, you cannot grasp its knowledge easily. To understand what I have written, or to understand the attainment of such superpower, or to understand the ancient text, you need to practice it yourself and see yourself. I have nothing to write anymore.

Aha !   Thats a giveaway !  'They' always write that  .... and they always come back and post some more nasty stuff   ;)

āyusaṅkhāra ossaji.

@freeform

The world is different now. All technology and new science stuffs, however the ancient path remains the same. The real thing is when Buddha said, "you can remove suffering," he meant, "you can remove suffering not only from you, but from the whole world." That's how this practise works. "Ceasing to do evil, Cultivating the good, Purifying the heart."==> this is the exact root concept the practitioner should embrace while doing tantra, but most of the time when practitioner is lay the opposite happens. It is more complex and a mere words cannot explain, sometimes you need to practise it all by yourself. You need to remove suffering not only from the self but from the whole world.

Told ya !

You are now  "one of them. "

Dancing Mad and all four movements or One-Winged Angel’s jillionth orchestral version?

It doesn't seem quite as epic as that.  This is the one that came to my mind:

An intriguing claim.

Depending where you live right now... this might not be considered a simple idle call for attention.

Hurting the world, kicking the dog..

Signs we need more inner peace.

Ignore the world,

(for a bit)

Sit peaceful,

breath peaceful

walk peaceful.

Misery Porn.  The basis of most reality shows and lower end talk shows.  Trotting out unfortunate folks and putting them/encouraging them to show their very worst side.  News does it too- it bleeds it leads.  A distillation of all that's going wrong in the world.   Watch enough and that's how you come to view the world.

But it's wrong.  Those shows are like a photo, often 'posed' of people at their worst.  The news is the news because its the exception.  99.9% of the world is.. not exactly fine, but regular.  Same as yesterday.  People either doing their best or running on auto-pilot.  Easy to see others as idiots but walk in their shoes and you get fuller perspective.  They have reasons not apparent from a surface glance.
