Hi zerostao,

Are there words to describe kindness? I think not.

Why? Kindness is beyond words.

Kindness is more into feelings as in emotions ~ beyond words too.

If emotions are not into words and so is kindness, what's it?

It is alive as a void in the Tao... like emptiness.

What in hell/heaven do I mean?

How many 0's are there in zerostao?

I have also noticed that when we are in a state of vulnerability (as long as we aren't totally overcome with fear) we can plumb the depths of compassion and concern for others.

We can/will/shall care for one another and others...?

But when we are dealing with difficult emotions like anger or anxiety, it becomes harder to tap into the wondrous well of Kindness, such is my experience

... such is my experience too.

But in the end Kindness can/will/shall prevail...?

Observing children, one could think that kindness is inherent in humans.

No, in general kindness and altruistic intention are absent in children...

Thank you for responding to ~ 'Yes/no?'

Can I add - 'I do not know' - when it comes to this photo...?

th?id=OIP.PxxD5EQeByhy_qMq-3ybIQAAAA&pid=Api&P=0&w=300&h=300

The photo was taken at Detroit Montessori School during afternoon story time.

"The  photographer had taken hundreds of shots but didn’t feel he had gotten a great one yet... When he silently prayed for something special that he could capture, this little girl laid her head on her friend’s lap. He nonchalantly laid his arm around her. This photo became the full back page of The Detroit News. "

It was captioned...

THE AGE OF INNOCENCE

Milk of Human Kindness

Less effective in the days of black and white...

Now more effective in colorful gif...

Continuing to cultivate a state of kindness and some day you could find yourself living in a state of kindness: Figuratively, allegorically, and literally.  I happen to live in Kentucky, which once again, same as it ever was, being chosen as the kindest of the fifty states.

https://www.onlyinyourstate.com/kentucky/kindest-state-ky/

It was Verizon's #ACallForKindness, the campaign started in November 2020, to encourage folks (everyone) to be kinder in their everyday lives. August 3, 2021, Verizon released their findings.

https://www.cincinnati.com/story/entertainment/2021/06/22/kentucky-named-kindest-state-verizon-commissioned-study/5308529001/

Not surprisingly, America maintains a High Capacity for kindness. Good job America!!

Of course, Kentucky as it has always traditionally, and Traditions matter in Kentucky, when it comes to Kindness. Kentucky wears the Crown.

A flashback from way back in the day

Spoiler

None of us here in the Bluegrass needed proof, and often are amused by some of the hearsay we catch wind of about how things here are.

The town I currently reside at, Richmond, is far and above the Kindness standard. Here Kindness is the way.

I posted once here years ago, how I was downtown walking and one of our famous downpours occurred. A stranger, whom I'd never seen before or seen since, approached me on the sidewalk offering an umbrella. He said, "Would you like an umbrella?"

I said, "Thank you."

I thank ya'll that have read and/or participated on this thread. Kindness is an ideal worth sharing.

I am not sure Mitch McConnel is a great example of anything.

I never said Kentucky was perfect; we do have that mitch mcconnel fellow. sigh.

He hasn't been in the state much the past 40 years.

If you started a thread about 'greed' it could provide a few surprise responses, is my guess.

Your state has the likes of Johnny Depp and Hunter S. Thompson. Quintessential Southern Gentlemen without the xenophobia in other places in the region, and their sense of wonder and curiosity, with a dash of artistry and amicability. I have an uncle from there too who helps me stay out of trouble often by demonstrating that old charm.

trying not to go cliche' too much;

yet,

a single candle could light a thousand more candles without loss to itself.

Light and Generosity are two things that contribute to Kindness.

Giving is living.

How do you cultivate kindness in ordinary life?

On the front end of the thread are a few useful links.

You could begin with presenting a simple act of random kindness to anyone or even an animal. It doesn’t have to be some major production; in fact, it shouldn’t be. The simpler the better.
it doesn’t have to be perfect, it can be a little awkward,

you will be presented with some moment when you could act with kindness,

if you miss that opportunity, no great worries, another opportune moment will present itself.

act sincerely and humbly and you will benefit at least as much as the one(s) who receive your kindness.
