On Feb 12th the Dalai Lama canceled all his public engagements due to the virus**- So the above pic could be an old photo.  Generally he's pretty pro-science.

Francis the pope- He's been praying for the Virus to go away.  Questionable, but such is part of his job.  Offering words of hope and unity in the crisis.  He's cancelled big group get togethers in Churchs, but  he's also recommended his priests to go with health workers to visit the sick, which is questionable.  Along with having families take advantage of time together.  He has talked about hugging, which is questionable, though in context it was more like hug your family, not strangers.

**The Dalai Lama has canceled all his public engagements until further notice due to the “deteriorating outbreak” of the coronavirus, according to a statement from his office.

“His Holiness will not be doing any public engagements for now until further notice due to coronavirus," the Dalai Lama’s secretary, Tenzing Taklha, told CNN.

Read the full statement from the Dalai Lama’s office:

“An announcement was made recently regarding the ordination ceremony for monks. However due to the deteriorating outbreak of the viral disease (Coronavirus- 2019 nCoV) that originated in China, His Holiness’ personal physician as well as consultants have advised a postponement of all public engagement for the time being, and His Holiness has duly agreed to further postpone his public schedule. Hence the ordination ceremony for the monks will be rescheduled and the announcement will be made shortly afterwards. We hope for your understanding in the matter. February 12, 2019.”

Since purchasing this Water Distiller five or six years ago, I've only come to appreciate it more.  Particularly now.  We have no need to purchase any water, ever.

Years ago, I tested our faucet water for ph levels and found it outperformed or equaled the five bottled waters I tested.  I expected that as we have a local marsh and a reverse osmosis plant.

But without a method for testing for heavy metals and with the presence of a massive Exxon refining plant a mile away... There is zero trust in the water here, in spite of the marsh/aquifer and the reverse osmosis processing plant.  The plant processes about 1/3 of the water that reaches our faucet... so not good.

Anyway, the distiller works brilliantly and consistently for years now.  Paid for itself a dozen times over, cost $200 on sale at the time.  I clean it after every six gallons, by soaking the bottom in vinegar and after thousands of gallons, it's stainless interior is pristine, without a hint of mineral deposit.

Can't recommend, or praise it highly enough.

Domino effect of hospitals failing to cope on the way ...

Fingers crossed there is an exponential explosion of cases in the UK, then we can blast through this in a few weeks and get the pubs back open : we have to retain some dignity.

Anyway I think I must have the Big Coruna, awful headache today ... had to stay off the internet for at least 2 hours.

I'd buy shares in Mothercare, they are going to be busy in about 9 months.

Looking at the current case rates in other European countries, ( https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/map.html ) I actually feel the government is taking the right steps at about the right time. London is way ahead of the rest of the country and so it's slightly frustrating that the whole country is being treated like London, but I guess regional instructions just would not be as effect / easy to manage.

Keep us informed how it goes - and if so can you guess where you got it from?

The UK Gov reckons 80% of the UK population are gonna get it.  So ... what are we waiting for ?  To drag it out until the economy cracks ?  Maybe they will wait until Summer and then open the pubs back up so we have better weather.   But you have to remember that this is the UK we are talking about !!!

I may be Coronaed, but hey I have had the flu before, I feel a bit rough but nothing major.  I am honestly not sure what the fuck is going on ... is there even something going on ?  All I know is I have 37 rolls of loo paper downstairs and I'm almost out of cheese.

One of my lodgers gave it to me ... and she feels just fucking great also, no we are not dead, no we are not on the statistics either.

Honestly, the best case scenario for anyone frankly is to get it, have a very mild or asymptomatic case...and then fully recover with immunity after that so you just don't have to worry about it anymore...

Problem is it's still hard to predict how hard it will hit any given individual.

Todd Herman, a 44-year-old entrepreneur and dad in New York City, was diagnosed with COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, over a week ago

His symptoms are relatively mild, and he said he's probably had "70 flus and colds" over his life that were "way worse."

For those asking me what it’s like: I have dealt with colds in the past that were worse than this. I rated my pain moderate (4/10) when I went to the doctor. The first 3 days were most difficult.

David Anzarouth knew it could happen to anyone but never thought it would happen to him.

The fit 25-year-old living in Toronto didn't worry about taking his vacation to South Beach in Miami, Fla., in early March.

"The minute I woke up, I was drenched in a pool of sweat. I was shaking. I was so cold. My head was pounding. It was something like I've never experienced before," Anzarouth said.

"It was the most incredible pain I've ever experienced ... My body felt like I had been flattened."

But 10 days later, he found himself sitting in an isolated emergency room at Toronto General Hospital, wearing a mask and feeling "the most incredible pain that I've ever experienced" as he was tested for COVID-19.
"The final swab for COVID-19 was an incredibly painful swab they stick far up one of your nostrils," Anzarouth said.

His friend, meanwhile, hasn't experienced any symptoms at all.

I am a businesses owner of a natural and health food grocery (privately owned food co-op) and restaurant. At this time we are following state laws of restaurant closing, school closings, libraries, music hall and the rest. We have not unemployed anyone. As one aspect of the business fails the other parts are extremely busy. As a grocery business we have been declared emergency workers for our state, for the time being.

Maybe someday the federal government will step in and limit travel. The cases in our small town are a person traveling from England and another from California. Check out this video of life in China and the restrictions in place to control the spread of disease.

What is preventative health care? the ammunition and the ability to fire the weapon is what we do, all day, everyday! Can you be on the front line with confidence and serve your community, some thing greater then yourself. The answer is yes. Yes and yes.

My elders were forced to go to war. Being forced to stay at home???? seriously is that really a bad thing. We do curb side delivery for those that are committed to laying low, self quarantines. and all of that, it is 100% awesome as well.

We did everything we could to protect the environment by bring our bag to the grocery store and we buy all the toilet paper to stop the spreed of this virus, Really we did everything we could.

Do the math.

China stats look really good, it is even hard to believe, their cases per 1mln population is ridiculously low.

But even in overall cases Italy will go above china in just a week or so.. and it already got more deaths total.

The China stats are wonderful, a hopeful sign for the world.

But, is it a country of wood, inhabited by walking match sticks?

Will the low rate of infection continue or is it an aberration; one that'll flare up again as quarantine breaks. We will see.  Without herd immunity is there any long term safety?   Without a safe vaccine available?

At a webinar about covid, a doctor who presented told my wife that 80% of new cases were caught from asymptomatic people.

I've tried, many times, but the problem is, there's no math from China that is not supplied by the CCP.  So maybe we can do history instead.

China reported 0 deaths from the Great Leap Forward.  (What they meant to say was 30 million as it turned out.)

Or we can do epidemiology.  Before coronavirus, their flu epidemic was reported to have resulted in 144 deaths.  In a country of 1.4 billion.

The kind of math to look at now is sort of indirect.  E.g., their 3 major cell phone providers lost over 14 million subscribers in the months of January and February.  Something that never happened in the prior 23 years of their existence.  I wonder what happened to those folks.  Probably just got tired of their cell phones while quarantined and decided to stop using them?..

It is all true the up side and the down side. We are talking about the largest population of the world. It dwarfs all of western population, so the numbers are skewed at the best assumption. Is Italy about the same size Florida?

Interesting testimony on the efficacy of herbal remedies - but will this lesson be learned by the rest of the world?

Quote

All of these were among the first patients in their cities who had fully recovered from the infection, and, like nearly all other patients outside Hubei, they had received a treatment that combined modern medicine and herbal remedies.
Each province had the right to make its own policy, and Hubei did not routinely treat patients with herbal remedies.
This prompted the Chinese government’s virus response task force in Wuhan, Hubei’s capital, to send an urgent notice last Tuesday to all agencies and hospitals involved in containing the epidemic in the province, giving them 24 hours to ensure herbal tea was made available for all confirmed and suspected patients.

Less than a third of Hubei’s patients had been given herbal medicines, compared with nearly 90 per cent in the rest of the country, according to the notice. “The absence of traditional medicine has already affected the outcome of efforts to save and cure [people],” it said.
The directive reflected a growing consensus among Chinese medical experts that herbal medicine could and should play an important role in the fight against the coronavirus.
By Monday, the epidemic had killed more than 1,800 people, most of them in Hubei. The sheer number of patients has put enormous pressure on medical personnel and materials in the province, but inadequate herbal treatments for patients who initially had only mild symptoms might also be a reason.
The southern province of Guangdong, and coastal Zhejiang, meanwhile, had some of the highest numbers of patients after Hubei. Patients there were given herbal drinks to relieve symptoms even before they were testing positive.By Friday, Guangdong had reported a mortality of just 0.1 per cent of infected people – compared with Wuhan’s rate of 2.6 per cent – and none of the 1,155 confirmed patients in Zhejiang had died.

But there was plenty of data supporting the effectiveness of herbs in antiviral treatment. Although the epidemic is ongoing, Chinese researchers had obtained some initial promising results from clinical observations.

Zhang, who is also a member of the national expert panel advising the central government, said in a press conference last week: “A team in Guangzhou has treated more than 50 patients and none later developed severe symptoms. In Shanghai, patients with a combined treatment usually take seven or eight days to test negative [for the coronavirus]. Without herbal medicine it could take more than 10 days.”

In mainland China, where about half of all patients in the country’s medical system have received herbal treatment, doctors have reported that a combined therapy significantly reduced the severity of symptoms, mortality rate and side effects.

In one of the most dramatic cases, all 58 patients in a public hospital in Guangzhou recovered and no medical staff were infected. A study by the Chinese University of Hong Kong involving local patients also suggested herbal treatment as “a safe, efficacious and affordable Sars prevention measure”, according to information on the WHO website.
In a landmark paper published in the journal Cell Research in 2014, Zhang’s team found that honeysuckle could effectively eliminate influenza A virus in mice.

The flower plant contained some tiny, unique molecules of genetic material known as micro ribonucleic acid that could bind with the viral strain and slow down its duplication in our genes. Before the study, it was believed that genetic materials were fragile and easily destroyed in the environment.

But Zhang’s study found that these small plant genes could remain almost intact after being boiled – as required when preparing herbal medicine – and they tended to concentrate in a mouse’s lungs. The herbal treatment more than doubled mice’s survival rate, according to the experiment.

Note: Dr Chen-Yu Zhang had studied TCM's Japanese Honeysuckle (Lonicera japonica), a HIGHLY-invasive vine that may very well be found growing wild at your local park!  You can just pick the flowers or boil and rinse out the leaves to remove saponins to make your own antiviral tea!

Quote

MIR2911 (honeysuckle-encoded atypical microRNA2911) as the first active component directly targeting various influenza viruses, including the swine flu H1N1, highly pathogenic avian H5N1 and H7N9 infections.

There are quite alot of substances in nature that have antiviral effects, its just not studied or tested well enough to give any conclusions on the case.

Italy is twice the size of Florida, with a much larger population.

So i will only speak of Germany here, as i cannot comment on other countries:

It will not work here, because:

1. the last 12 Years that i work now in the medical field (Oo never knew its been that long now) nothing was done to get hospitals hospitable

2. Hospitals are completely understaffed, atm 1 nurse goes per around 10 patients ... ok 3 in ITC (also physicians have to take sometimes amphetamins to stay awake)

3. Things that could slow down the curve have been done approx. 30 days too late (they are in effect as of today)

4. Youngsters are egoistic and go out even thought they are not supposed to, they meet up to so called "Corona Party´s"

5. People have next to no knowledge what they are supposed to do, and why that is

6. Most information sources are to pay for, and most people wont use them

7. Technical equipment rather gets sold to other countries instead of being used here (source ... i develop them)

8. most physician have specialisatiion in ways that make money (cardiology, radiology etc.) but wont help people

9. most people are egoistic dimwits ... i saw People buy a whole cart full of toilet paper without any reason at all, only to buy as much as possible ..

that list can be furthered nearly infinitely

Only seeiing what i can see for Germany i am on rides side, let it be over, since all politicians are yeah dimwits with no knowledge in what they do. looking at our parliament its like giving a group of blind and deaf people a flying licence for passenger planes and setting them on the steering on a fully loaded one.

Agree fully about dimwit politicians.

Just yesterday, the Malaysian health minister went on live TV to endorse the fallacy that drinking lukewarm water will wash the CVirus down to the stomach to be annihilated by the acids there. In another live interview prior, he demonstrated how to put on a face mask correctly, except that his own mask was only semi-fastened, where the bottom ties clearly hung loose around his neck.

Wow, another young, 26-yo balla who got Covid-19 asymptomatically so far!

Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, making him just the latest NBA player to come down with the coronavirus.
Yet Smart, the lone player on the Celtics who had produced a positive test, feels totally normal.  “I feel great. I feel fine,” Smart said Friday night on CNN while speaking with Chris Cuomo.“I feel like I can go play a game right now.”

I find it unsettling how everyone Talks about vaccines, and that there ones are being developed, but at the same new mutation vectors are induced as it all is tested in animals before.
