The Pineal Gland

by Damo Mitchell

...In alchemical language the pineal gland is known as the Ni Wan which is often translated as being the ‘mud pill palace’. It is the physical manifestation, the Jing, of the upper Dan Tien which is a rotating sphere of information which sit as the underlying energetic blueprints for the formation of the pineal gland within the physical realm of our body. So is the pineal gland the upper Dan Tien, yes and no, the upper Dan Tien manifests energetically as a sphere of Qi within the skull and physically as the pineal gland within the Ni Wan area of the head.

Light Receiver

The pineal gland has been discovered to react to light, photon energy, by biological scientists. This often causes confusion as the pineal gland essentially sits within complete darkness inside the head so often it is known as the ‘appendix’ of the brain. A useless organ which serves little purpose. Interestingly other studies have shown that the pineal gland secretes serotonin directly involved in governing our happiness levels and preventing us from sinking into depression. The light that the pineal gland reacts to within Daoist alchemical thought is the Shen energy rising up through the Chong Mai into the area of the upper Dan Tien. As the vibratory frequency of the Shen hits the pineal gland it reacts to the light giving a sense of a white light appearing within the minds eye, the alchemical pill. This pill, with practice, can begin to expand its light over the head of a sincere practitioner leading to the formation of a halo of white energy which can be perceived by those around who have awakened the thirds eye, the collateral branch of the energy body which runs from the pineal gland to the Yin Tang area of the head.

The pineal gland is awakened by this internal light leading to perception beyond the realms of physical vision. Psychic vision, abilities and phenomena can be attained once the pineal gland receives the light it requires from deep within the consciousness of the accomplished Daoist practitioner. Many of the intermediary level abilities recorded as being available to internal arts practitioners are a result of the pineal gland, the ‘all seeing eye’ as it was known within many gnostic schools, awakening giving a glimpse of the world beyond the realm of Jing, physicality.

Beyond this realm of light, Shen, and the pineal gland lay the realm of emptiness, the gateway to Dao. It is the role of the upper Dan Tien to convert the higher perception frequencies of the pineal glands by-products into a direct connection to the divine. This is now entering the higher stages of alchemical practices. Only the most ardent meditation devotees will enter this door and find the opening of the Xuan Men (mysterious pass)...

More specifically - from the Taoist Yoga book - on the secret purpose of the pineal gland to create Yuan Qi energy:

Quote

Your two eyes, though separate, have only one root; if both eyes roll round their root will move as well. The left eye stands for the East whose element is wood [yin qi] and the right eye for the West whose element is metal [yang qi]. The element of wood turns west¬ ward to unite with the element of metal and the latter turns eastward to mingle with the former. This is the union of both elements causing the (vital) breath in the brain and the psychic strength to develop, expand and unite into one whole reaching the core of the brain where it transmutes the (microcosmic) outer alchemical agent (already gathered there) into life-preserving true vitality [yuan qi]; this is (eternal) life returning to (essential) nature to become one whole

So the left eye is yang shen-yin qi and the right eye is yin shen-yang qi.

Combined together and the yuan qi increases the yuan shen.

@voidisyinyang

what do you mean by left eye and right eye? From my perspective? Or looking at a diagram? You also said that the left vagus nerve is mainly afferent (and so the right is mainly efferent?), that’s the left vagus nerve on the same side as looking at my left hand?

from your own perspective. Both vagus nerves are mainly afferent. The left vagus nerve is the front of the body and the right side vagus nerve is the reproductive organs up to the right side of the brain and then down to the right side of the heart. So the right side vagus nerve is the older reptilian (snake kundalini) FREEZE response (for samadhi). So when there is a deep traumatic fear then a mammal will freeze, just as a reptile does! This is dangerous for mammals but it can be intentionally activated to then heal such traumas. Dr. Stephen Porges goes into this in more detail. "Involuntary Immobility is NOT complicity" is his phrase.

To me what you present is not something more specific, but an entirely different concept. In Damo's article, shen rises up the Chong Mai, it is not produced in the head, nor is it produced by rolling the eyes.

Alchemically, shen must be produced via water rising and fire descending, not by rolling the eyes. If shen then rises through the Chong Mai it means it is initially created lower down in the body. To me Damo's concept is alchemically correct.

yes it is complicated so you need to study the Taoist Yoga book more. The left eye is the LIVER energy (wood as yin qi) - the liver energy goes right up to the eyes during the day with the eyes open. The right eye is the LUNG energy (yang qi with substance). So the left eye is the HUN soul or cloud soul. The right eye as the Po soul then CLINGS to the Hun soul - as the hun soul is fire and so is pure and easily flies out of the body. So that causes separation by the po soul then going back down via the hun soul going out of the eyes. So for alchemy you close the eyes so that the Hun soul as a yin shen then turns into a Yang shen so then the Po soul clings to the fire going down. So that is how the copulation of dragon (yin qi) and tiger (yang qi) works - there is yang within yin and vice versa. So the water has to go back DOWN the front in order to store up the Yuan Qi as the Golden Elixir. The lung energy as water or metal then helps to sink the wood that normally would rise up. In alchemy the elements have to be reversed.

So then as the yuan qi is stored in the lower tan tien - then you rotate the eyes again to bring the energy back up and back down via the shen. So the pineal gland is connected to the lower tan tien directly through the central channel - this is felt by rolling the eyes. Science recognizes this role of the pineal gland via biophotonic signals. So again the left eye is Hun soul while the eyes are open but Yang shen when the eyes are closed so positive fire as yang qi and yang shen then DESCENDS back down to the lower tan tien.

By rotating the eyes then the shen combines between yang and yin shen (left and right eyes) and yin and yang qi (left and right eyes)  - to then create more Yuan Qi. That is what the quote above from TAoist Yoga tells you specifically about the Pineal Gland - it's role is to CREATE MORE YUAN QI!!

Then yuan qi is STORED in the lower tan tien and when then lower tan tien is filled - then the middle tan tien opens up which then causes the Yuan Qi to rise up to the pineal gland. So that is the First half of immortality - as then you see light externally as the Absolute Void via the Yang Shen.

But to keep storing up yuan Qi then you need to rotate the eyes so that the Shen burns up and purifies the yin qi and yang qi. So the yin qi is a red light shen lower frequency blockage. The yang qi is blue light from the future - so you are absorbing yuan qi from the future and it emits blue light in the process. This is precisely how we see the color gold - it is proven in relativistic quantum physics as blue light being absorbed FROM THE FUTURE as quantum spin (the 5th dimension). So that causes the red, yellow and green light to combine to be seen as gold. In other words NEW matter is being created as Yuan Jing.

So the Green Dragon and the White Tiger then descend back down the front to be stored in the lower tan tien via the Yellow light - of the Yuan Shen - so that is the storage of the Golden Pill or Golden Elixir to keep building up yuan qi energy. It has to be stored in "cold storage" - deep in the lower tan tien which is the small intestines - having more neurons than the heart.

We can't say what the Dao is because it is experienced through LISTENING. So it is called the "negative judgement paradox" by math professor Luigi Borzacchini. A Phonon can be superluminal and also can be stored as antigravity pressure-energy-information. So a photon is the Yuan Shen that is "turned around" but light has a hidden super-momentum to it - a superluminal energy-information as "relativistic mass" or spacetime energy from the future. That is why the Yuan Qi has the yuan shen INSIDE it. And the Yuan Qi is inside our bodies but it  is also the core of the Universe - as a 5th dimension black hole. So our body can be used to increase the yuan qi energy by resonating with the Yuan Qi directly. OR we can use up our body's energy for more superficial lower frequency activities. Then our shen at death loses connection with the yuan Qi and so floats around as a ghost. That is why the qigong masters also heal the ghosts or yin shen as well.

I found this to be particularly interesting:

Scientifically I believe light coming into our eyes affects the pineal gland, certainly in its production of melatonin and regulating the sleep/wake cycle, but in Daoist alchemical thought (according to Damo at least) it is Shen rising (I believe through the central channel) which basically bathes the pineal in the energy it needs to flourish.

If this is correct, that Shen rising through the central channel is the key to the pineal gland being energised, it straddles many basic layouts from different spiritual philosophies that focus on the central channel as being of primary importance, but how the central channel interacts with the pineal brings it into the physical world, not just the 'spiritual' or consciousness level.

the main purpose of the pineal gland is to turn blood into cerebrospinal fluid. That's why it's the 2nd largest processor of blood, after the kidneys. https://elixirfield.blogspot.com/2019/10/the-role-of-pineal-gland-in-creating.html  scroll down for details

So the yin qi is in the blood. The yang qi is in the cerebrospinal fluid. So the yin qi is needed to be added to the yang qi. This works via the pineal gland. The shen is then ionizing the neurohormones - which become neurotransmitters in the brain. So as serotonin levels increase - qigong changes the serotonin to decrease in the blood but then increase in the cerebrospinal fluid. The increased serotonin then increases the potassium ratio to sodium in the brain, thereby increasing the Yuan Qi charge. The water EMITS biophotons as virtual photons when the water is compressed in the brain via the pineal gland. So there is a magnetic moment between the separation of the protons and electrons as water is compressed via the neurons in the brain - the neurons are composed of the crucial microtubules.

The Daoists teach sun gazing as well - so it is known that photon energy does go to feed the pineal gland via the eyes. But - as a reader on this website then visited me personally - and as I sat in full lotus on the couch next to him - he then exclaimed:

Quote

Your eyeballs are pulsating!

So that is what happens when the yin qi leaves the pineal gland and is shot out of the eyes via the pineal gland. So the light is like a carrier wave for the qi, based on the frequency of the light. This means that biophotonic signals then switch into electrochemical signals as jing energy - and vice versa.

So for example western science now documents biophoton signals through the eyes then activate the pineal gland to then activate the adrenal glands and then the prostate - this is precisely how the Daoists understood as well. The Taoist Yoga book explains how the eyes will "twinkle" at the sight of beautiful form - that is a biophoton signal that then dilates the genital duct! So then the perineum is used to control the pineal gland - as Mantak Chia also explains.

The pineal does produce CSF, and "may contribute up to 10% of the total CSF" produced as your quote asserts, but "most [of] this fluid is produced in the ventricles of the brain by the choroid plexus. However, a smaller portion is produced by the ependymal cells which line the ventricles." Here

Why do you focus on the pineal producing CSF so much? Can you include the choroid plexus and ependymal cells in your theory?

Scientifically, the pineal gland's main known purpose is its production of melatonin, though I imagine there are a lot of pineal gland functions left to discover.

If you study the book Taoist Yoga: alchemy and immortality it states... (i'll find the quote).

Quote

The above stanzas deal with the generative force, vitality and spirit which, after being sublimated, gather in the brain where, under constant pressure from prenatal vitality and spirit, they will in time produce ambrosia (kan lu). The latter flowing into the mouth becomes a liquid (saliva) which, when swallowed, makes ‘sounds’ in the abdomen. This ambrosia produces and nurtures the immortal seed in the lower tan t’ien (under the navel) whence it radiates, lighting up the heart.

and

Quote

The usual drain of vitality through the heavenly pool (tien chih) cavity in the mouth can be stopped by raising the tongue to touch the palate (in order to make a bridge so that vitality can flow into the throat and chest before returning (in the jen mo channel) to its centre below the navel). But far more of it drains through the genital gate than through the heavenly pool and if this is not checked it can kill even chaste youths.

So the cerebrospinal fluid is tied to the myelination of the neurons through lecithin (the main component of ejaculation). So that's why Daoists call eggs "brain food" and the Buddhist monks rely on dofu - both are the main lecithin sources in food:

We report here that the level of 24OH-C esters was lower in CSF of patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis than in healthy subjects (54% vs 68% of total 24OH-C, p=0.0005; n=8). Similarly, the level of 24OH-C esters in plasma was lower in patients than in controls (62% vs 77% of total 24OH-C; p=0.0076).... https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/vms3.158

This ambrosia produces and nurtures the immortal seed in the lower tan t’ien (under the navel) whence it radiates, lighting up the heart. The light reveals the formation of the immortal seed when all breathing (appears to) cease and pulses to stop beating. This achievement is due mainly to the condition of utter stillness which contributes to the production of the immortal seed.

So what happens is when the third eye opens up then the increased pressure on the pineal gland ALSO increases the flow of "ambrosia" as swallowed ionized cerebrospinal fluid - and this is then digested back into the small intestines as stored up Yuan Qi energy. The lecithin is then a plasma that contains the qi - from the blood of the yin qi then increasing the yang qi - and fused via the shen spirit light.

Quote

From the original cavity of spirit (between and behind the eyes) [the pineal gland] this golden nectar will pass through the hsuan ying cavity (above the mouth) to flow into the throat. When it goes down into the windpipe, if the practiser has not received instruction from a competent master, he will simply cough it up. Is it not a pity then that all previous progress is thus thrown away?

Because of the continued interest in this thread I will now reveal an interesting discovery I had recently.

Someone donated to me to meditate in full lotus for four hours and also asked where they can read the book that I wrote ten years ago and they were trying to find it again. So I told them the link and I also began rereading my book, reviewing most of it for the first time in ten years.

When I read the above I was quite amazed as I had just recently blogged on a recent science study that proved my above claim.

Quote

They found that, during sleep, large waves of cerebrospinal fluid flow into and out of the brain every 20 seconds, a process thought to remove waste. The inward flow was preceded by patterns of slow waves of electrical activity, called delta waves.

These brainwaves are also known to play a role in consolidating memories while we sleep. The researchers found that the waves coincided with blood flowing out of the brain, which they say helps balance the total volume of fluid around the brain.
