Those poor Victorian era wives

Thjey did it to my Granny - locked her up in a 'mental institution '    why,  she was 'different' and read tarot and crystal ball for 'strange  people'  (she was actually from another culture and used to have friends from that culture visit her .  - so they locked her up .

They did it to Ida Craddock, who wrote sex education books for men as women where being abused and injured sexually by their husbands - so they locked her up (and she killed herself in jail)

Women could be locked up or admitted by relatives for a variety of reasons , apparently even for 'novel reading ' .

Most 'male reasons ' seem based on physical trauma ( eg. head or falling injury )

They even admit a reason for admission as 'false confinement '

Wise, is sitting naked in a tree.

Eating ripe fruit, breathing fresh air.

Unwise, is letting the neighbors see you do it.

Wish, to do the same, but with pants.
This could be enough to not worry about anything. ;)
