Ignorelist and quoting

Recommended Posts

Hey I have a suggestion about your ignorelist.

It is quite nice with all the options one can add about mentions and such.

But it would be even better if you managed to include quoting,

as it kinda defeats the purpose of trying to ignore someone to get a popup just after that says,

"Person you just ignored" quoted you!

Maybe it isn't technically possible, I've been on other forums that didn't even have the options you have.

If it isn't I understand, just wanted to give my general feedback on how you might make the forum a little better.

I liked the old software when one could 'like' their own posts   :)

Some trippers here were actually doing that      :D

< writes post .... clicks 'like'    ..... " Oh yeah ! "  >

I have everyone on ignore. When someone quotes me I just ignore it and never respond. I am mostly interested in myself and not other opinions. Once I tried to break the TDB forum by telling someone I was wrong,

I liked my own posts back in the day. Always good to have someone on your side...even if it's just yourself!

I do find it a little inconsistent on a site with so many professing to practice the inner way

needing outer means beyond their control to regulate their inner state always asking for more outer control to do so.

It would seem the best way would be to not be attached while still retaining awareness something that many

often speak of but find hard to do,,because .  It is hard

Which is the point of most practices finding out why, this is so.

The what makes it so, and how to deal with it...

people talk of being daoist  leaving this site and yet.

"True goodness is like water, in that it benefits everything and harms nothing.

Like water it ever seeks the lowest place, the place that all others avoid.

It is closely kin to the Dao"

Those that  people choose to ignore are often the ones able to provide the most inner growth

by responding to those who have ignored one,

ie quoting them one  is actually helping them by reminding them their ignoring something artificially because they'er too attached to it.

Not understanding the inner way they will always seek the outer way

asking for more options outside themselves missing the unlimited options within.

You might be amused to know that I find you, Windwalker, one of the most cantankerous and annoying Bums of all time.  No doubt you`ll say that`s because I`m too attached to your words.  Well, guilty as charged.  I once suggested that we ignore each other, and did in fact have you on ignore for some time.  Of course you quoted me at every opportunity and never in a complimentary way.

I suppose I should thank you for all the growth opportunities your posts have provided.  Maybe someday I will but I`m not that spiritually evolved at the moment.  I have, however, taken you off ignore.  Perhaps that`s progress?  In any case, I`m getting less and less attached to your posts all the time.  Maybe there`s hope for me yet.

good to hear your making progress.

consider it gratis, a benefit of all the bums here helping each other.

I dont use the outer ignore function.  Nor do I ignore

I practice non attachment and use the times I happen to feel attached to

understand why this is so within my self....

When I was young son you had to....

Give me a break will you?

I'm here suggesting a forum feature that can be used in all sorts of ways.

Sure my way is one of lessening the burden of attachment.

But guess what, I'm not your non-attachment student.

My agenda on this site is not about handling attachments at this time.

I'll keep you in mind if I ever set that up as a major milestone on my todo-list, Masta-Windwalka!

Got it, as noted by the Bold type, thanks for the emphasis.

Underlined too, I'm impressed.

Looks like ya might want to consider what attachment means.

As to student, your response indacates you already are.

Your inner self seems to feel your in need. I'm sure it will find many other teachers here to help in this.

Your inablity to take no for an answer, along with your denial of giving me a break.

Leaves me to take the informed choice in taking a break from you.

Until whatever time, I feel it is time, for those attachment lessons. ;)

There is little point in a forum if you only see opinions that match your own.

I can agree that it is hard to see you unenlightened and uninformed poor sods barking at the moon (or was that me?), but I always have the opition not to read and not to respond*.

*This is not an option in a Mo Pai thread. 😁

For the record, this was turned off due to a single member who like to sarcastically mock other members and constantly 'liked' his own posts... for the record again, he is no longer here but I actually miss some of the buddhist warring times he was a part of.

I can't seem to remember that.  I guess it wasn't that important to me.

Life is short.  I seem to have unlimited time to peruse Daobums but if other people choose to fill their time with a greater diversity of activities who am I to fault them?  This board is inhabited in equal measure by benevolent geniuses and misanthropic (or perhaps misunderstood?) fools.  The ignore function can be a way of steamlining the reading experience for those with other things to do.  Each of us will no doubt choose whether and how to use it by ourselves.

Windwalker has a point.  A person could be totally open to reading all posts and use the disagreeable ones as food for inner growth.  Here`s the thing about attachments though: Life has a way of providing it`s lessons and will do so regardless of whether we choose to ignore or not.  Not everyone needs the kind of growth opportunities that offensive and wrongheaded posts can provide.  Some of us get plenty of that kind of thing in our marriages.

The ignorelist is a good crutch,

ie not seeing things you find ignorant or distasteful.

better is to read and disregard,

ie be unmoved by it.

perhaps best is to see, read, consider and move on,

ie giving oneself a chance for empathy & understanding.

Addon course with swamps like the

Talk Trump thread, I mostly ignore.

Well said.  A chance to test our self.

Doesn't one still see the posts of ignored users, when they get quoted by a third party ,anyway?

So one still gets exposed to the ignored users words , ...unless one also ignores a whole lot of other people as well ..., shredding the threads I would imagine.

True.  Anything that is quoted by another member would not be hidden.

Ends up just being a mind game.
