How is the dalai lama chosen?

I heard that this will be the last one due to some interference from China, but want to full understand this situation better.

There are often some signs during the funeral that say where to look for. Also important teachers or students of dalailama have auspicious dreams connected to some area. Then they search around for a person that had a child and there were some weird thigns happening when the child was born. Then they show the kid stuff from previous reincarnation mixed with normal flashy stuff and depends what the child choses. There is also divination, oracles and other ways how to make sure. It is quite a proces.

That would be Tenzin Osel Hita. He hasn't totally distanced himself and still practices and teaches.

Current Dalai Lama said maybe they will be the last and the Chinese government said no you can't decide that we decide that.
