Move as per the above request.  After thinking about it a bit I decided that because of its humorous slant this might be better in the Rabbit Hole then General Discussion.

Beautiful collection of hat and headpiece photos!  Although their sometimes gaudy elaborateness is easily made fun of, I find them fascinating and mysterious.  What impulse originally inspired such creativity?

I was told about the Catlickers.  Their hats represent open fish's mouths.

We had three hats in the Army for various activities:

 

The flying saucer 

 

The one I can't mention its name

 

The fatigue hat

I love the hats.

For me it shows devotion and respect.

It shows commitment and creativity.

The symbolism is beautiful and supportive.
