But let's not be so civil that we forget about the importance of humor and most of all that we forget to dance.

We gotta' let that child out to play now and then.

Yes! Those are the best discussions.

Thank you all.

Just now, Stosh said:

If that's how you like it, I was on the right track after all. ;)

But I don't want to force the issue, and that wouldn't be a Taoist approach either. In the other topic Lost in Translation suggested a Socratic way:

Quote

I try to not tell anyone how to think or what to think. Rather, I express how I think and what I think, and ask questions. Socrates knew what he was doing, IMO, and is worth emulating in this regard.

That's what I am going to try next.

As I am Dutch I hope my improvised "English" is readable...

Good Sir, can you tell us... in your own words, how you feel about this?

well... I'm not sure to be honest.  I keep using the same words most everyone else does... but I'll try.

For sure.

But then, that would be an excellent way to keep me out of a discussion; to post in a language other than English.

That's worthy of repeating over and over again.  But I will stop with just once,

My suggestion is to follow the example set by Carl Rogers.

Do you mean I should enter discussions with the purpose of helping other people to develop their own thoughts and perspectives?

I have a feeling that it works both ways (so both parties would develop their own perspectives).

That sounds pretty compassionate.  I'm not there yet.  I'm still the center of my universe.

Same with me. Sometimes I help other people, sometimes I don't. It's inconceivable to me that I should fully participate in developing a perspective that radically deviates from the path I am currently going. Say - some young man is dreaming of a criminal career, should I help him to achieve his goals? Or less extreme: somebody wants to promote a way of life  that I have reason to believe would eventually lead to disaster. In such a case I am not prepared to "help" such a person realize his dreams. Even in completely harmless cases there are limits to the time and energy I want to invest in other people. Yes - actually I'm a bad one.

No.  I like your perspective.

Es läge mir aber fern, dich von einer Diskussion fernhalten zu wollen, Marmorkopf.
