This may be his most famous quote.  Most of us have seen it before.  But I, for one, need to be reminded now and then.

A good traveler has no fixed plans
and is not intent upon arriving.
A good artist lets his intuition
lead him wherever it wants.
A good scientist has freed himself of concepts
and keeps his mind open to what is.

Thus the Master is available to all people
and doesn't reject anyone.
He is ready to use all situations
and doesn't waste anything.
This is called embodying the light.

What is a good man but a bad man's teacher?
What is a bad man but a good man's job?
If you don't understand this, you will get lost,
however intelligent you are.
It is the great secret.”

What is that it needs to be reminded?

who determines good from bad?

who is the arbiter of truth?

who affirms such decisions as just and true?

I presently hold that position of making judgements.

The spirit of the universe is subtle and informs all life. Things live and die and change their forms, without knowing the root from which they come. - Chuangtse

Look at the water coming out of a spring, it flows naturally of itself. The perfect man does not have to cultivate his character and yet he never departs from the laws of nature. It is like the sky which is high by nature, like the earth which is solid by nature and like, the sun and the moon which are bright by themselves. What do they do to cultivate themselves? - Chuangtse

Water flows downhill without effort... settling in the lowest.

With no skill, training or intention, water generates enough force to sweep away entire forests and cities.  It does this without mind, malice, care or differentiation.

Water follows Dao.

Of the five vices, the vice of the mind is the worst. What is the vice of the mind? The vice of the mind is self-satisfaction. - Chuangtse

Tao is obscured by our inadequate understanding; the meaning behind words is obscured by flowery expressions.

There is no such thing as creation or destruction, for these conditions are leveled together into One.

Looked at, it is dark.

Listened to, it is noiseless.
But in that darkness there appears a light;

and in the silence, a harmony is heard.

"When someone threatens to attack a Taoist master, he just smiles.  It makes him very happy, it's like a gift from heaven.   He hopes that the attacker is very powerful, so he can test his skills.   He hopes that the attacker is very evil, so when he destroys him he will have helped rid the world of some evil."

Interesting stuff Starjumper.

who is the arbiter of what comprises good and evil I wonder?

to the antelope, lions are not helpers, nor beneficial

is one good and one evil?

what are the origins of evil and good?

compelling stuff...

He who clearly apprehends the scheme of existence does not rejoice if he succeeds, nor repine if he fails, for he knows that conditions are not constant; external limits are not final.

The reason why Heaven and Earth can endure and last a long time is that they do nothing and do not live for themselves.

People usually look at things from their respective points of view and miss the truth by wanting to correct others.
