What is Immortality?

Recommended Posts

"Does Aging Stop? reveals the most paradoxical finding of recent aging research: the cessation of demographic aging. The authors show that aging stops at the level of the individual organism, and explain why evolution allows this. The implications of this counter-intuitive conclusion are profound, and aging research now needs to accept three uncomfortable truths. First, aging is not a cumulative physiological process."

Not really. those are yang qi manifestation with yin shen while forming yang shen. Yang shen is free from such crude experiences.

Lucid Dreaming is not actually a Self-Aware state - it is a trance-aware state - not unlike the trance-aware state of the un-awakened normal state during the day of most humans. An Awakened presence is generally typical during sleep for those that have Awakened and abide in that state (as apposed to those who have experienced such a state - which however deep is a somewhat topical experience even in the most exquisite cases).

One could look at this subject from the following:

Three major circles regarding higher influences

1. Exoteric - outside the sphere of concern for subtle aspects other than primary instinctual and cultural norms.

2. Mesoteric - somewhat to considerable interest in religious formations and subtle arts.

3. Esoteric - driven to / compelled to practice subtle arts and internal inquiry and transformation - from considerable to overwhelming desire / drive.

Three major circles regarding Awakened individuals:

1. Exoteric - Awakened and settling into Abidance

2. Mesoteric - abiding and re-established practice and continued intentional suffering

3. Esoteric - light bodies have developed sufficiently and merged to the extent that one has moved within the sphere of what is considered Enlightenment.

Three major circles regarding those in the Sphere of what is considered Enlightenment:

1. Exoteric - abidance in a level of what could be called Complete Freedom

2. Mesoteric - maturation of advancing light bodies and heavenly bodies

3. Esoteric - merging of all bodies - immortality (Immortality having nothing to do with the physical body - never has in this sense)

If I'm confused why would you point it out without clarification?

I agree. We are here to learn from one another. If you are willing to share I think we would all appreciate courteous clarification in this matter.

One Hundred Words Poem Of Master Lu Dong Bin:

(this is a very much simplified version)

1. Cultivate Qi, forget speech,

2. Quiet heart, act effortlessly.

3. In movement and stillness know your true self,

4. There is nothing to want for; who is searching?

5. The eternal self must respond to the world,

6. When responding, don’t get attached and lost.

7. If not lost, mind dwells on itself,

8. When mind is settled, Qi returns.

9. When Qi returns, Dan Tian is reconstituted;

10. Fire and water arise in the center of the cauldron,

11. Yin Yang are continually reborn,

12. The mundane is transformed in one clap of thunder.

13. White cloud rises to head’s top,

14. Sweet dew sprinkles the celestial mountain.

15. Drink the wine of immortality,

16. Be at leisure; who is going to care.

17. Sit and listen to string-less melody,

18. Gain understanding through Nature’s secrets.

19. This poem is in 20 lines,

20. Now it’s up to you to climb the heaven’s ladder.

Yang shen rejuvenates the body I mentioned this in my first post an it was not understood.

Heals it corrects it fills it with energy.

At this point one is beyond just quiet meditation. For if one tries it at this stage all they hear is ahhh and they go into the primordial state.

So you should focus on the suffering ...

I don't do suffering therefore I could never be a good Buddhist.  I stopped suffering shortly after my last divorce.

You are uttery a old dumbass weakling soon to be dead halfbrain looking tootlesss bread grumb beggar.

Actually, that is what I could easily say about people who are seeking immortality.  I mean, really.  There are processes in nature which cannot be altered and the process cycle of birth - life - death is one of them.  Never in nature has anyone seen this process altered.

Now, to live a long life is different.  This is a worthy Daoist concept.

Thanx for this poem.

A song of enlightenment

13. White cloud rises to head’s top,

14. Sweet dew sprinkles the celestial mountain.

15. Drink the wine of immortality

This is my understanding of immortality. It's universal, in all traditions/religions

Prana or chi raises through the central channel(no breath), is released through the broken top knot and the mind opens

Naked awareness

Peace

“Writings of the Masters of Huainan” says:

Those who eat meat are brave but cruel.
Those who eat Qi have bright spirits and long lives.
Those who eat grains are intelligent but die early,
Those that do not eat at all are immortal.”

食肉者勇敢而悍
食氣者神明而壽
食穀者知慧而夭
不食者不死而神 。
淮南子 (139 BCE)

In theory, and in accord with Zhang Sanfeng, it should be a natural and spontaneous process.

Yes, this is very clear. "Killer instinct" is not necessarily protective, and the instinct for self-preservation is not necessarily the "killer instinct". What you speak of is the ultimate equalizer, the path of "one-taste". However, for mental health professionals such terminology may not carry the same spiritual connotations. It is a matter of perception. This is why the ancient sutra of the Arahantavagga speak of those who "having comprehending food" are "independent of nutriment".

90
In one who
has gone the full distance,
is free from sorrow,
is fully released in all respects,
has abandoned all bonds:
no fever is found.
91
The mindful keep active,
don't delight in settling back.
They renounce every home,
every home,
like swans taking off from a lake.
92-93

Not hoarding,
having comprehended food,
their pasture — emptiness
& freedom without sign:
their trail,
like that of birds through space,
can't be traced.

Effluents ended,
independent of nutriment,
their pasture — emptiness
& freedom without sign: their trail,
like that of birds through space,
can't be traced.
94-96
He whose senses are steadied
like stallions
well-trained by the charioteer,
his conceit abandoned,
free of effluent,
Such:
even devas adore him.

Such,
like Indra's pillar,
like a lake free of mud.
For him
— Such —
there's no traveling on.

calm his speech
& his deed:
one who's released through right knowing,
pacified,
Such.
97
The man
faithless / beyond conviction
ungrateful / knowing the Unmade
a burglar / who has severed connections
who's destroyed
his chances / conditions
who eats vomit: / has disgorged expectations:
the ultimate person.
98
In village or wilds,
valley, plateau:
that place is delightful
where arahants dwell.
99
Delightful wilds
where the crowds don't delight,
those free from passion
delight,
for they're not searching
for sensual pleasures.

It's about inner process. And he is right. It's funny how many people try various methods when Neidan can be natural if you follow the Way and then your yang shen follow the Way on it's own.
