Chá Rén 茶人

Introduction

Hi Everyone!

I am glad to have found a community of like-minded Tao-seekers, which are surprisingly rare in my corner of the globe in southern Colorado. I have been a short-time lurker, maybe 3 months.

Former meat-head college football player and masters grad who started breaking down physically and emotionally real hard about a year into the workforce, and began questioning the truths he had been told his whole life.

I suppose I am seeking clarity and more advice to continue my ascent into true wellness again, recovering that primal dan tien spark from my youth that has faded with overwork, lack of sleep, poor nutrition, alcohol and cannabis abuse, and jing depletion via, well, bein' a teenager in 2000's America.

I practice hung gar, wing chun, taiji, and qi gong. My current obsession is Chinese and Taiwanese tea, and related paraphernalia.

I also play acoustic guitar and write songs sometimes. It is therapy at its finest.

Looking forward to lighting lanterns for each other along this muddled path.

Hello, Cha Ren and welcome.

Your membership is approved and we're happy you found your way to us. We look forward to accompanying you on some of the way that you still have to go.

Please take the time to read the post pinned at the top of this Welcome page and take a look at the forum Terms and Rules.   This covers all you need to know when getting started.

For the first week you will be restricted to ten posts per day but after that you can post as much as you like. Also, until you’ve posted fifteen times in the forums, you’ll be a “Junior Bum” with somewhat restricted access and will be allowed only two private messages per day.

Good luck in your pursuits and best wishes to you,

Marblehead and the TDB team

Hi Cha Ren,

Music is good for the mind, heart & soul.  No songs about a "Rocky Mountain High" though, Okay?

You are welcome to jump right in ongoing discussions, revive an older thread, start a new thread of your own, or start a discussion in the "Newcomer Corner" sub-forms to expand on your introduction or ask general questions to help you get started.

May you enjoy your time here.

Good morning Cha Ren,

You find songs therapeutic - you are lucky.

But Marblehead has indicated this:

Why? He was from a quarry there. When he was born, dynamite was used.

Now you know.

Marblehead - hope this will help erase your explosive passage to our beloved Earth.

You were exploded from earth to Earth.

Be proud of your birthplace.

Happy birth-day/place Marblehead - one are one hell of a piece of stone.

This morning for breakfast, I will have  instead of my usual coffee.

A great weekend to both.

I definitely see a lot of similarities between qi gong and music. The quarry/dynamite thing was interesting; thanks for sharing.

I was a coffee drinker back in the day too. Now all I ever want is my tea.

I think we'll get along based on your name and mine

Hi Earl Grey,

Can you please indicate your erstwhile name in comparison to this -

Then we can determine how well you will/can get along with Cha Ren.

Why thus? Because you are 'Earl'  and he is just '人'.

From the little we know, those who are Earl-ish tend to be snobbish.

My lord, do you drink your tea with stiff upper lip?

Again from our limited knowledge, Taiwanese tea's are mostly drunk with Chinese lips.

Are you musically inclined? Why? Cha Ren is.

From the grapevine, we hear that 茶人 drinks his tea with tea-themed music/songs.

We are told that his favorite piece is this -

We wish you well with 茶人.

Hi Earl Grey,

Your very high class tea-taste is daunting.

TWG is founded in Singapore; but we've yet to have a sip of its tea.

Why? We cannot afford. We buy common tea in bulk (economy of scale) and share.

We are not well versed with tea but we think you are 'show-offish'

Stiff upper lips = stiff upper class = Earl Grey?

We think there are - social, affordable, incorruptible ... - gaps between your tea's and 茶人's.

As we are unsure of 茶人's take on these gaps, we visited a 'tea-leaves reading' fortune teller.

My lord, 茶人 is predicted to calmly say this - 'my god'.

Let's see ...

Our best wishes.

🤣🤣 You pick up on a lot of subtle nuances, LimA.

I may come from the peasant classes, but luckily tea transcends boundaries. Imperial Tribute Tea allowed a farmer to stand face-to-face with an Emperor, if only for a second.

I just won't skimp on the good stuff if Earl and I ever have a cup.

(I will say I'd rather have Bergamot oil in my Nebulizer than my tea cup, but your tastes buds know best for you).

As you said, good thing we buy our medicine in bulk.

That tea picking song is definitely on my playlist now too. Good share.

Hi Cha Ren,

Thank you. The cherry blossoms are mind blowing.

It got my chi flowing and transforming into shen.

Now I am on a sublimed high with nostalgic sighs.

Besides chi, these memories flowed back:

1. My first trip to Japan for a year's assignment stationed at the foothill of Mount Fiji.

2. Before the plane touched down at Narita Airport, they played 'Sakura' when the lights were dimmed.

3. My first experience of snow on X'mas eve; I was standing under a lamp-post ... crying.

4. The diminutive sakura only to be found at Gotemba City (Shizuoka Prefecture) at the foothill of Fiji.

I like to share this 'Sakura' song heard when I was a child -

A great weekend.
